This never really made any sense to me. Joseph killed a lot of pillar men with the ripple, and Dio is inherently weaker than them, then why can't joseph just use the ripple to finish Dio off?

time stop?

This was one of the reasons I enjoyed part 2 when reading the manga more. The pillar men are theoratically stronger than the current Dio.

Don't attempt to read the spoilers below if you don't know what happens in part 3

EDIT: I'm fucking dumb

Pretty sure you guys discussing spoiler at wrong thread folks...

EDIT: and you are right

Well, Joseph DOES attempt to use the ripple.

It doesn't work and Joseph gets the shit slapped out of him; plus he gets chastised by Dio for even trying. Dio doesn't even break a sweat when he got shocked with the Ripple. This could be due to many things:
1. Joseph is out of practice with the ripple because there was absolutely no point in practicing it anymore now that the ancient mayan vampire people were gone...and there's stands.
2. Dio becomes immune to the effects of the ripple due to Jonathan's body, or he just naturally becomes that strong.
3. The World can ward off the effects of the ripple because the world.

Yes, the pillarmen CAN absorb dio. However, with The World Dio can theoretically take them out provided that their bodies don't react fast enough to absorb The World's attacks.

That's not what happens.
He doesn't get hit by Joseph's ripple. He breaks Hermit Purple before the ripple travels through it. He doesn't hit Joseph directly later because he covered himself in a Hermit Purple/ripple barrier.
I also don't think this should be discussed here, even with tags. It should go in the community thread.

Holy shit, I just read that part over. You know how the Dio had those intense action lines around his body? I thought it was him being hit by the ripple. Like..seriously. I got hit with "I didn't read this for 15 years" syndrome

Yep, talking about this stuff is too far gone. To the dusty ass crevices of the community thread!

wait, crying Esidisi is based on a smudged fashion photo?

Yep, he took other shots from the same artist:

Also Dio's pose is taken from a girl:

So, I've watched 5 episodes of this and while I appreciate the better animation and asset quality, it kind of feels like a reboot to me

No more ripple goodness, no stonemask craze and not many poses :(

Well yeah this is part 3. Not going to be the same thing.

Also there have been a bunch of poses already. This is a longer part so I'm sure there will be more :P

Not many crazy poses!?

I'm pretty sure DIO is almost always posing when they cut to him too. Part 3 has some of the best poses. Tch Tch

Ripple and stonemasks are completely abandoned after part 2. Better get used to Stands since they'll be around for the remaining 6+ parts (if they ever get animated).

It feels like Pokémon to me, not sure if I will continue watching this because I liked the physical fighting with insane explainations waaaaay more

And there are no gentlemen like Speedwagon or Zeppelin - it just feels really un-JoJo to me

So far having not read much of the manga and the watched up to current of the anime, I really prefer Stands as a method for delivering powers, as they can do whatever they want and don't have to stretch logic to make Hamon make sense. BUT, I prefer the fights from Battle Tendency way more, as the characters felt like they were actually thinking and struggling, as where every fight so far has pretty much been just a regular anime fight.

Give it time. Stands get weirder and more elaborate as Araki finds his groove.

I wish Araki didn't abandon Hamon in favour of Stands but should co-exist alongside which would really give out some fresh new ideas for battles just like the Spin in SBR.

But alas even the Spin which was a Hamon equivalent got abandoned in Jojolion.

I remember reading he sort of hit a suspension of disbelief/feasibility problem in his narrative. Ripple was all well and good. Now how could he keep on explaining dudes in modern times causing explosions & s@#$ around people, things escalating & them getting away scott free from authorities & people being none the wiser. Thus he came up with stands; invisible forces capable of OP shenanigans.

Also yes RIP to spin

You'll start to see some crazy stands in the next few fights, I think. The powers aren't going to be merely fighting based, either, which leads to some creative ways to defeat opponents. Of the current arc, I've only really seen the old OVA of Stardust Crusaders, but there's one confrontation in particular that made me love Jojo's, and I can't wait till they get there.

Yeah, I assume I have no option other than to keep watching; I mean I loved the previous 2 seasons which grew on me instantly. Seems like I should give this some more time and trust you guys that it will become better

The show is done with introductions now anyway. This is the point where the journey really starts and Stardust Crusaders starts getting even more awesome.

Next episode would've boring as hell though, I'd expect..

Eps 7 and so on the gear already starting to heat though I'm guessing.

Are you saying
Dark Blue Moon
is boring? I loooooove that fight. It's one of Jotaro's best moments. In fact the fight after,
Strength
is my least favourite from Part 3, aside from Tower of Gray since that's so short and simple.
Strength
is really cool for showing where stands can go but I think the fight itself isn't the best.

Its work well on the manga, but putting almost 2 empty chapter to one eps isn't putting confidence to me the episode gonna be good, that's why I'm hoping David just make creative spin with merge it with
Strength
's fight instead 1:1 adaptation, but that's not happening looking at preview I guess.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the stuff from the original OVA covered in this series but that stuff won't happen till next seaons, huh? Oh well, I guess that's not too far away. But man, I know you guys don't care for the 90s OVA but I must've watched those tapes at least a dozen times back in high school.

Well the episode went pretty much exactly as I expected.
The Dark Blue Moon chapters last the whole episode and then before the credits it ends with the setup for Strength.

You can't show underage children smoking on Japanese TV.
Its a strange law.

Jotaro is 17, therefore dodgy censorship.

Its the same reason they aged up Sanji from One Piece from 17 to 18.

19 to 20...
Sanji is 19 in the manga, 20 in the anime.

Goddamn :(
I guess they can't avoid it because Jotaro is frigging high schooler.

There's also the part where Stands are more democratic; anyone can be a stand user. Ripple mastery takes italian training.

What the fuck is this now?

Do they really think the 70s band 'Captain & Tennille' will sue.

Yes I did have to look up where the name originated from.

What's weird is that the Viz translation went with "Captain Teneil". Different spelling, but same meaning.

JoJo translations are all over the place. Damn Araki and his obsession with Western music...

Well one thing I found funny about this fight is
How dozens of punches from Star Platinum weren't enough to kill the impostor, but a strong piercing attack to his nose is

Good pacing and ep. IMO, and I like how the dub manages to showcase the 'verbal tics' that some characters have. I would've never known
the impostor refered to Jotaro as a little child in the english translations of the manga

Joseph needs to start doing stuff already too lol.
