Infamous: Second Son Review Thread

I'm just gonna do what I used to do when I was a kid in the 90s, buy the games I want and disregard the reviews. Only your perception or opinion of the game matters, you're the one playing it.

GAT V felt like next gen gameplay??? LMAo how? It's the same big standard open world structure we have seen for a decade. Not to mention adding stuff like stock market that in theory sounded good that were pointless and poorly implemented.

Damn I was hoping for a Metacritic of over 90. I'll hold off for a price drop no way I'm putting down 73 euro for it. Next gen prices are a joke.

Being that I love Infamous, everything about these scores (not going to read because I'm playing it for hours tomorrow anyways) makes me think I'll love it.

More importantly, is there going to be a Preset or profile for the Sony Gold Headset for this game? About to get mine tomorrow, hoping to use em with this game.

Is it the positive reviews that make you not want it anymore? Or the fact that an inFAMOUS game plays like an inFAMOUS game? Im just curious what you were expecting?

Both and it's the infamous game playing like and infamous game part, and I agree, I don't know what I was expecting either.

Those graphics, though.

I wish people would stfu about Titanfall, some of you are obsessed.

As for this game, i always thought it would be a good 8/10 level game, nothing more and nothing less. People moaning about an 8/10 level game are pretty ridiculous to be honest.

But there clearly is a bias at play, and I'm talking about both ends of the spectrum. Skyrim on PS3 not being shat on from high heaven is a clear indication for me that the bias is real. Obsidian being given grief over similar if not less severe issues that plagues Bethesda, is again a bias. A developer with a lower pedigree could make DA2 and ME3 exactly the same as Bioware, and the reviews wouldn't be anywhere near as good. Things are sometimes overly scrutinized on one end, or overlooked on the other.

I have to agree. Sadly.
Reviewers are not disconnected from developers, that makes being ubiased harder then it may seem.

Cannot wait to get home and burn my PS4.

Worthless piece of shit.

There are some people seriously having that mentality in this thread.

How did people feel when Killer Instinct, Dead Rising 3, and Festival of Blood scored in the 70s on Metacritic? From what I understand people love KI, DR3, and I played FoB and loved it enough to play it three times.

It's scoring around where Infamous games have scored on Metacritic.

GTAV is a last gen game, that FEELS next gen in terms of gameplay because of the wealth of things you can do, the attention to detail, and the just the overall amount of content there is in the game. To me, and many others, MGSV is the same way, it's a major step forward for the franchise and with the sheer scale and content promised for the full game, including a fully fledged online multiplayer option, it's simply gives a bigger impression of improvement and quality, which is how a next gen game should feel.

Which is great for MGS since it's evolution for the series but it did not need a new system for it .
Which means it does not have next gen game play with the way how the press wants to use the phrase.

Just so everyone knows these reviews mean nothing.

This game is so god damn awesome and everyone should pick it up tomorrow.

It's the most fun I've had with a video game in a long time.

Now I'm confused to what Next Gen gameplay is..

AC4 has last gen gameplay
NBA2k14 has last gen gameplay
Dead Rising has last gen gameplay
Madden has last gen gameplay
Battlefield 4 has last gen gameplay
Need for speed Rivals has last gen gameplay
COD has last gen gameplay

So why exactly is a sequel getting docked scores for having the same gameplay as the original game. What difference does there need to be besides having different powers, which was never in previous games, a different story line different from the the last 2, a different set list of moves, other ways to navigate the city etc?
It's a post Titanfall world, the bar has been risen.
ppppppppfFFFFFFFFFFT HAHAHAHAHA sorry couldn't keep it in.

So I was reading the Eurogamer thread and I believe they spoil the four powers without giving a single fuck, I quickly closed the tab but can anyone confirm they actually spoil them? Fuck if true.

Because you just can't have new and innovate gameplay without difference peripherals.

Gen after gen, all you got was the very same gameplay you always got before. Games play exactly the same as they did. They just look prettier now. They just have a narrative now. They just have a different perspective now. But they play the same.

So, when someone says "same gameplay from old gen" that person is a goddamn clown.

I watched a TV spot yesterday that literally said "This is next gen". So, when someone feels that it isn't that, he's a clown? If you seriously think that gameplay doesn't evolve, compare MGS1 to Ground Zeroes.

Like how? Let me say, I love having more people on the map... But Battlefield didn't change from what we know. We still shoot with R2/RB. There barely were new weapons or vehicles. Game modes were more of the same with more people. Even something more comparable like AC4. Lot of filler stuff, but the gameplay remained exactly the same. After 7 in the whole series, why is the parkour in the game the exact same model as Ezio and Altar. Different people don't have different styles of body language? Even though those specific things aren't of that much important to me, it shows that still some games are still more of the same.

I hope you are kidding. You seriously can't see a difference between 64p Conquest Large and 24p Conquest? It's almost a different kind of game.

Reviews look totally fine. It has a worse average than the other two games, but that's ok. Standards changed and reviewers try to use the full scale more often now, which is a good thing. It seems like the majority of reviewers even agree that's the best in the series and yet still give it a lower score, probably because the landscape and expectations changed quite a bit since the last Infamous.

I think that's acceptable. Not like it's getting any bad reviews really.

People have to stop bringing up Titanfall in threads it doesn't belong in, this is about Infamous.

Decent reviews for the game, around where I expected, I'll think about picking it up for cheap later in the year when I get my PS4.

I agree. Damn I was hoping for an 90+, since Infamous looked so damn good. Reading some of the reviews, the graphics may be pretty but the game play may not be good enough to warrant a full $60. :/ Considering canceling my pre-order, but will just wait to see some video reviews, and read a few more reviews.

I'm torn right now.

The Titanfall Salt™ level is reaching critical status in this thread.

Eh, it's fair discussion. The first two big new-gen games since launch released within ten days of each other, one hyped to heck and back by the press and one with nary a mention from them. It's an interesting topic.

So I was reading the Eurogamer thread and I believe they spoil the four powers without giving a single fuck, I quickly closed the tab but can anyone confirm they actually spoil them? Fuck if true.

Yes, that review is a spoiler-fest. :-(

As of right now, there are 41 reviews that are 80 or better on Metacritic.

There are 11 that are 70 or less.

In looking at the makeup of those 41 reviews...there are a LOT more outlets in that group that I typically find my opinion siding with.

And a lot fewer (Eurogamer, pretty much) amongst the 11 lower reviews that I typically agree with.

Very much looking forward to this game...and these reviews, so far, do nothing to dissuade that.

I am really disappointed after reading the reviews.

This was going to be the game I bought the PS4 for. The one I had waited until now for to make my purchase. I bought an XONE at launch because the games were there for me. PS4 had nothing I wanted until Infamous 2.

I don't think that's going to happen now. I'll just play it at a friends and, for me, the wait continues.

Seriously? All that just from reading reviews?

Oh shit wow. Yeah those are in fact the powers. No one read the eurogamer review if you don't want to be spoiled.

I don't see it doing something that's not possible on the 360.

Is the gameplay in Second Son at least trying to do something different from the previous games, in terms of scale or interactivity? That's the observation I see being brought up: It's structure isn't different from what's already been done twice in the same series, let alone the open-world genre. There are newer games that can be worked back to play on earlier hardware, but the question is "does this feel novel and exciting," not "what level of hardware is required."

It's a conversation about game design, not necessarily technological eras. It's a bit different, but the best thing I've heard consistently about something like Assassins Creed IV was that it managed to feel distinct in its own series. It doesn't sound like that's happened with Second Son.

You're right about that, standards for reviews have changed for the better. 9's and 10's aren't handed out like candy like they used to be, and that's a good thing. An 8 or a 7 means a lot more now.

Video game reviews are still insanely flawed, but it's one positive I've seen lately.
