Yeah, I also doubt that the institutionalized molestation angle will be solved, at this point I think Rust has come to terms with it after interviewing so many people affected by it over the years with no consequences, whoever had the pull to kill Tuttle had to be bigger than him on the real world and no character like this has been introduced so far. At best they will take down The yellow king and Papania+Gilbough will see the bigger conspiracy but not being allowed to follow up on lead just like it happened to Rust.

Watched Dallas Buyers Club last night - it's definitely an Oscar winning performance, but I think his performance in True Detective is better. The show should clean up at the next TV awards.

Thinking about TD the last few months has made want to revisit Fincher's Zodiac. From what I remember of that movie it feels pretty similar to TD.

Recently met someone who grew up in Texas (around Austin and Dripping Springs). She said in early grade school, McConaughey would come by their school to pick up/drop off a niece (I think?).

He never rolled up in a super fancy car, he just pulled up in a white F150. He knew most of the kids by name and would say hi to them all.

Definitely less on the metaphysical/philosophical/occult level, but I think it absolutely matches the "work that consumes you/becomes a part of you/defines you" thing that Zodiac has going on.

Hmmm see I was thinking mostly on a visual level they feel similar but I do remember that about Zodiac.

Insert Dazed and Confused joke, :lol

McConaghey is my favorite new Hollywood actor. I can't believe I'm saying that but he is. I've been known to enjoy romantic comedies but his stuff back in the day was pretty bad even in that genre..

At least I saw him do the crazy dragon hunter role before it was cool.

Funny that Papania+Gilbough ran into Spaghetti Man and didn't give him the time of day either. Almost as if history repeats itself and time is flat or something.

I hope now people will take my love for Reign of Fire seriously now. It's a real thing.

He was great in EdTv. I've always thought he was a great actor, I can't really fault a guy for doing some successful Rom Coms to make some money.

I want to watch Mud again.

I'm also leaning toward this myself. Hid portrayal of Rust has sucked me into a character like never before.

I'm surprised he was smoking real cigarettes. I always thought union requirements forbade real drug use on set. I always read people smoked fake herbal cigarettes in movies and stuff.

He was cool as shit in Sahara, I remember seeing that in theaters and enjoying him in it, but that movie got panned pretty hard otherwise.

I just realized McConaughey is the only living person I would accept as the new Bodhi in the Point Break remake. A shame that's going to be an abortion.

But maybe he could do Roadhouse. Ass kicking stoner buddhist.

Episode rankings? Well, I've loved em all, but if pressed........:

1. Ep. 5 (Leydoux takedown, 2002 jump, Rust gets back on the case, that delicious unreliable narrator execution)
2. Ep. 1 (Pretty much a note perfect pilot that sucked me in wholly)
3. Ep. 4 (Craaaaaaash)
4. Ep. 3 (the lead up to the identification of the killer, or so we thought)
5. Ep. 7 (The glimpse into the pathetic lives of two broken men who need redemption)
6. Ep. 6 (Marty/Rust partnership dissolves, Marty/Maggie marriage ends)
7. Ep. 2 (dat Daddario.....and other stuff)

Note: I've yet to rewatch ANY episode, so this is based off first impressions.

Pretty much how I feel. Although for some reason, I didn't enjoy Episode 7 as much as 6 and 2. But as an episode (the actual content), I can agree it was better. I think I'm biased, because I was kind of let down by Episode 7 in the context of going into the finale.

I have no idea if he's joking, but Danny McBride claims that HBO has already cast the leads for S2, not that he's telling.

Who would you want to see in season two of True Detective?

Well, I already know who it’s going to be. I got the inside scoop at HBO. *laughs*

Can we get a hint?

Nope. *laughs like Satan himself*

OK, well, then who do you think Kenny Powers would want?

Nell Carter and Sherman Hemsley, that’s who he’d want to see. You’d watch that, right? All CG.

At the same time, not surprised since I believe Matthew chews tobacco.

How many actors from The Wire have been in this show so far?

I've seen The Greek, Spiros, Lester Freedman, and of course Brother Muzone.

To everyone mocking all the "crazy" fan theories like they are above it all:

Let us remember that the writer of the show himself is the one who continuously have included Carcosa, Yellow King, Black Stars and all the rest of the Weird Fiction/Cosmic Horror references.
