To help create the backwoods Louisiana noir of HBOs True Detective, season-one director Cary Fukunaga recruited Alex DiGerlando, the production designer behind the haunting half-sunken bayou depicted in Beasts of the Southern Wild. The two had previously worked together on a short film made by Beasts director Behn Zeitlin that was also set in a southern Delta community in the aftermath of a flood. Vulture spoke with DiGerlando about how he pulled off the detective drama's haunting atmosphere, and asked him to walk us through behind-the-scenes photos of 13 exceptional props and set pieces.
Dissapointing that the spiral in Hart's daughter's room was apparently a mistake.

Marty Hart from True Detective watches the Red Wedding
MOD EDIT: In case someone doesn't know, major spoilers for Game of Thrones here. Watch at your own risk.
There have been a few already. I think this one is my favorite so far.I imagine "Marty Hart watches..." is going to be coming a thing.
Maybe its just because I live in California and am familiar with California but a SoCal Govt. Chinatown type thing doesn't sound nearly as intriguing as creepy swamp people.
I've been playing Ridge Racer occasionally while watching.

I'm just going to start posting Rustin Cohle lines in every drunk/high thread.
Better than the Soup version, that's for sure. Not sure if this has been posted TD: Oscars Parody

There's obviously more to it than just that guy. How are the Tuttles involved and the many other men that took part in that ritual.

That ritual was 2 decades ago. I really don't think it means much. They might all be old or dead by 2012. It just shows where the killer got his ideas for his own M.O and not much else. Women murders =/= Child rape and sacrifice videos. I don't expect any resolution on the Tuttle family sect/cult. IMO, that's just for flavor.
Like Rust said, his man had a busy year. His man. Not "they". He's out for one guy. He knows he can't bring down the Mardi Gras ritual killings. At least he can stop the women serial killer. At least that's my understanding.
I'd imagine Rust and Marty would love to break the whole thing open. Tuttle, the police who may have covered things up, etc. but they don't quite have the pull or the resources to do all that on their own. I'm guessing that if they manage to get to lawnmower man they'll try to find some sort of link to the others involved through him. That ritual was 2 decades ago. I really don't think it means much. Aye. The "sprawl" that Rust called it basically. That doesn't make any sense. There has to be a reason why people in such high places are covering a guy that doesn't look to be in a very high place at all. He would just be Reggie Ledoux part 2 if it ends with him.

Very funny.
Don't know if you guys care about IMDb ratings but I do and it's so cool to see 9+ ratings for all the episodes.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2356777/epdate
Strange to see the two first episodes get lower ratings than the others.

Just started this so I skipped over the entire thread for fear spoilers. Just wanted to say I surely hope it picks up because it is slllllllloooowwww as hell. First episode felt like three hours instead of one!

I've been waiting for "rewatch guides" before I truly judge this show.
For me Episodes 1 and 2 were fantastic, 3 was a bit of a boring point, 4 was just as low as 3 but had a spectacular setpiece, 5 and 6 slightly redeemed 3 and 4, and then 7 was a much needed break of continuity and had an excellent pace.
I can't wait for Sunday. And I can't wait to watch the whole thing again as one consolidated work.
its quite possible that the cult is long dead
but there are definitily things going on that arent done by lawnmover man, or do you think he also made the guy in jail commit suicide?
so the cult or ex cult members are probably still around and cover the killer so he wouldnt expose them.
at the same time that means if rust and marty catch the killer, the whole cult - or whatever is left of it - will be exposed and possibly brought down.
How is this possible? There was ritualistic murder of a girl in 2012 - which is why they are being interviewed in the first place.
First three episodes are still my fave. Everything leading up to Ledoux walking around with a gasmask on. There's this brooding, meditative pace to it that the show never got back to, for obvious reasons.
me too. Some of my favorite parts of the series are still the car ride conversations.First three episodes are still my fave. Everything leading up to Ledoux walking around with a gasmask on. There's this brooding, meditative pace to it that the show never got back to, for obvious reasons.
Episode rankings? Well, I've loved em all, but if pressed........:
1. Ep. 5 (Leydoux takedown, 2002 jump, Rust gets back on the case, that delicious unreliable narrator execution)
2. Ep. 1 (Pretty much a note perfect pilot that sucked me in wholly)
3. Ep. 4 (Craaaaaaash)
4. Ep. 3 (the lead up to the identification of the killer, or so we thought)
5. Ep. 7 (The glimpse into the pathetic lives of two broken men who need redemption)
6. Ep. 6 (Marty/Rust partnership dissolves, Marty/Maggie marriage ends)
7. Ep. 2 (dat Daddario.....and other stuff)
Note: I've yet to rewatch ANY episode, so this is based off first impressions.
Thisisneogaf.gifI don't see the point in ranking episodes when a series isn't episodic, as they're meant to form a cohesive whole.
There are 7 different parts of varying enjoyability so far. I see a lot of value in deciding what you like and don't like.I don't see the point in ranking episodes when a series isn't episodic, as they're meant to form a cohesive whole.
