Exactly, this is why it isn't the Marty or Rust we are viewing, it's actully past-Marty, who realised the case was unsolvable in his lifetime, and recognised the damage this was causing for Rust. Due to this, he waited for the next revolution of the circle (ie for time to begin again) and sacrificed himself (because Rust commented how he contemplates self-sacrifice) by being the killer in a case which present-Rust and present-Marty would be able to solve. Surviving his own death and living into the next cycle caused horrible facial scarring and altered the colour of his ears, while making him susceptible to the posession by demons. It all makes so much sense! This explains why Reggie Ledoux had My Little Pony clothesWe see Marty and Rust during their most intimate and private moments in their lives. They are genuinely surprised, disturbed and curious on each turn the investigation takes them. We see how they live, alone or otherwise. There is simply no way you can fit a secret satanic life without completely betraying who the characters are, by way of some overwrought senseless conspiracy or split personality.
Rust is obsessed with finding the cult's ringleader because all the missing girls remind him of his daughter, and Dora was found on his daughter's birthday. The police is crooked so he goes off the grid to solve the case by himself. Yes, I know some people can't believe it to be so simple, but the Yellow King is probably some dude we haven't met yet and is tied to the governor in some way. This isn't a story about twists, it's a story about characters.
Thinking of starting to watch this but I'm a bit afraid to read the topic because of spoilers. What other tv shows would you compare this? What other similar shows you guys like?

After You've Gone
Hart and Cohle investigate a string of disappearances that may be tied to the Dora Lange murder and the Tuttle family.

TD's choice of music continues to be impeccable. BMRC is perfection.
More closely resembles the movie Zodiac than any show I can think of off the top of my head.
Tonight time stands still
It already happened, and it'll happen again...and again....and again....forever...Tonight time stands still
I'm at the office, totally contemplating bailing to finish my work from home online with a marathon of the last six episodes in the background. Everybody in my department is so locked into True Detective now that I could tell them exactly the rationale for working remotely and they'd probably let it slide.
I'm hoping tonight's episode hasSeems the perfect payoff for an audience that's been hanging on every subtle inference and revelation since the start of the series.a brutal, fifteen minute, hypercut montage detailing every lead and piece of evidence puzzled together with Rust narrating every step like Sam Spade when he takes Marty to his Batcave of a shed.
Let me first say I have never once seriously considered Marty as any sort of suspect.
Having said that, lets consider the following.

Way too much reaching and grasping for what's not there. While some big those can be vaguely suspicious the majority can easily be explained when looking at the bigger picture and not just THAT specific screen cap.hi. marty is the killer.

antlers.
Also I think this show has the lowest amount of nudity in the history of HBO, but then again I didn't see Carnivale, I need to get on that.
Is the show skipping tonight because of the idiotic Oscars?

Underlying themes are ok. But not sure if I want lore to be passed around.I wonder if the show will have lore that passes from season to season or if each season will be an isolated story.
>implying that true detective at its "worst" isn't better than 95% of televisionMan after last episode I havent thought about this all week. Damn I really hope it doesnt get any worse
This show knows what it is unlike lost. Shiiiet, its only 8 episodes. Aside from fans fervently deconstructing the shows I don't see a comparison. This show is turning into Lost as time passes without canon to lean on. I honestly hope we get to the point where we know who the killer isn't by tonight.

I haven't seen Dallas Buyers Club, but I saw 12 Years a Slave. Chiwitel Elijiofor will be incredibly difficult to beat this year.
Read the interview with those that made the title sequence and their notes on each in the slideshow. Could be considered a spoiler?
The title sequence unfolds chronologically and the notes refer to a serial killer.
Everyone should stop saying "this isnt a whodunit!" No kidding. This is a complex character study. It is a puzzle. And the pieces are all there
Notes said:Girls. Crucifixes. Hunting. Gun Sights.
Crosses.
The evocative nature of these shots allows us to use symbolism to draw parallels across the story - both visuals and thematic.
As the titles build in energy and intensity, our symbolism becomes more focused and literal"
Notes said:"Evocative photographs will reveal character portraits through bold and striking graphic compositions.
Rich in character and symbolism, the titles will be steeped in imagery from our story.
Personal geographies will link themes, people, and places in a sequence that journeys from a poisoned landscape into a [sic] intense and incendinary personal apocalypse for both of these broken men."

I think anyone who thinks the show is going to have some sort of grand Marty is the killer/ or other huge "I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING" style twist are setting themselves up for disappointment.
I see this getting a more breaking bad style end.
That is righteous right there.
let them dream a little longer.Way too much reaching and grasping for what's not there. While some big those can be vaguely suspicious the majority can easily be explained when looking at the bigger picture and not just THAT specific screen cap.
Hey guys.
I'm the Yellow King.
let them dream a little longer.
