This. Haven't found a single piece that is a must-buy. The style of everything I've seen so far feels...rushed? Under-developed? Wrong style?
I don't know how prevalent it is, but it is a part of AA. Can't remember what he said he had joined and whether it was real or not.
Maybe Promise Keepers? A quick google shows that as a religious group.

What a great show! I absolutely love it and I'm always left wanting to see the next episode. I saw someone mentioned this show will be different every season? Can someone link me to some info regarding that, I'd love to read a bit more about the show in general aside from this first season.
Also, as far as the imagery from the intro goes, I fucking love this shot!
Hmmm, just noticed that the name of one of the guards who escorted the pharamcy/murderer guy to his cell right before he slit his wrists, was named, "Childress." The same last name of "Ted Childress," the detective who was in charge of the the missing Fontenot girl case. Speculation: Probably the son/relative of Ted (who probably swept the Fontenot case under the rug). This guard, being that he works in the area, could have easily found out that the guy was talking about the "Yellow King" and informed his higher ups that he was about to talk which is why the dude got that phone call. Meh, it's probably nothing. This is what addys do to me when watching this show. Time is a flat circle.

Kevin Tong should have done one for True Detective as well. Look at this one for Hannibal:

Give it a shot, seriously. I remember when the thread appeared on GAF, which was the first time I'd heard about it, and it received almost universal apprehension. Those who watched it slowly realized it was a hidden gem, exemplified by the numerous "you know, this show is actually pretty amazing" articles/reviews after season end. Matt Zoller Seitz thinks it's even better than True Detective...!
IMO, they are too different to compare but complement each other extremely well. I think the writing is one notch below TD, but the performances are right up there, and it has a stylized beauty to it (seriously, it's one of the best looking shows to ever grace TV). It's extremely interested in the psychology of the characters and what it means to be a "normal human being", to have an identity, or what it means to identify (or not) with humanity/society.

Watch it. Don't ask anyone about the season, just watch it. You'll be mesmerized by the operatic gore and wondering all the while what's going on, and why. Then the final episode hits and you have to go back and rewatch to see what you missed. Really expertly done.
Man I must have dreamed the buzzing drones of the finale for weeks afterwards. Is the soundtrack out yet?
Yeah, you need to rectify that.
And the Will Graham hallucinations/crime scene recreations are fucking phenomenal.
Imagine if Rustin Cole's hallucinations were turned up all the way to 13.

That is like the one thing Hannibal is not.
Oh man, you got it all wrong. Just watch the entire first season. Sure, it has a couple of 'monster of the week' episode but there is a overarching story. And it's a good story.
You don't have to like it, but at least be accurate. It has procedural elements, but it is hardly standard. Anyway, derailing the thread.

While I agree with most of what you said (I think the writing in TD is leagues ahead), I still think Hannibal was a massive let down. One half of the show is great (Mikkelsen as Hannibal and the elaboration of the killer Hobbs), but it clashes bad with the procedural half of the show. It feels like CSI Hannibal.
The killers are over the top, so much so they are unbelievable. Then there's the weekly serial killer story, they lack the depth needed to become interested in them. There's the cliched operation room where Will Graham's team hang out, over-stylized, with computer monitors on the walls to make it looks flashy. And the guys dealing with forensics that join the team, guns drawn to arrest the latest killer. It really cheapens the whole thing.
Didn't like Lawrence Fishburne as Crawford either. He's one of my favorite characters from the books, a part already cast and played to perfection by Scott Glenn in Silence of the Lambs. Fishburne is a good actor, but he doesn't have much range, he's essentially the same here as every other role he's played.
If I wasn't so in love with the books, maybe I could have enjoyed it. As it is, I gave up half way through season one and reread the novels again.
