FFXHD on Vita or PS3?
I haven't decided yet. Curses for no cross buy.
Vita. Portability ftw.
CORRECT! If it isn't native or 60fps, why bother playing it....
Good to see everyone is starting to see the light now.
Is the Vita underpowered or is it lazy devs that we are getting subnative games? :/
I want to say Lazy Devs, but it's a trade off thing. Though I would prefer native res for everything and at least a solid 30, despite any and all tradeofffs that result from it..
Killzone being twice the price as it was last month is far from fine. I'm interested in picking it up due to the positive impressions here but I absolutely hate every Killzone game I've played so $17 is way too steep. Sly Vita was also $6 last month and $15 today. Sony needs to learn a thing or two from Valve.
What? Valve often does sales where the current sale price isn't the lowest price said game has ever been at.

I think I will get Valhalla knights 3 just to satisfy my...Curiosity.

Am also think about castle storm and stick it to the man.

Anybody who owns the above games want to persuade me either way?

Definitely getting injustice though.

VK3 is...bad. Really ugly, endless grinding, crappy save system. You can definitely spend your money better elsewhere.

From what I remember (which, I'll be honest, meant going back and reading the review I wrote a few months ago), Castlestorm was so-so. The idea was fun, but the execution of it left a lot to be desired.

And Stick It to the Man was a lot of fun. Some people dislike the controls, but I really liked its sense of humour.

Who got banned? Got scared for a moment when I read that. Thought it was me.

Unfortunately not, haha :(
Hopefully you'll remember my name at least lol

So you still carry fear in your heart. All according to the mods plans.
I'm not in love with the sales for this week. Especially since I need to save my Wallet money for FFX HD.

Yeah, about a year ago Shahid took to Twitter and demanded someone get him the Twitter Handle of the creator. I always knew it was going to come to Vita, but it's frustrating that apparently the porting process hasn't even started yet.

I'd rather he himself do the port since he can figure all that stuff out most accurately. But, I'm sure Curve would love to do it otherwise. It's not like he's doing anything important right now :P
I just finished Tearaway. Why do my tear don't stop flowing?
I think I have to buy another copy of it now. Dem feels.
You can never have enough copies of a fantastic game.

FFXHD on Vita or PS3?

I haven't decided yet. Curses for no cross buy.

Cross-buy is not supported by any developer that is not an indie or Sony. So you should never het your hopes high for big third parties to embrace it.

As for FFX, Vita all the way for me. I can't imagine myself playing an RPG nowadays if it is not on portable form.

Plus, that OLED of course.

I'm going with PS3 since Vita is sub-native. The whole point of remasters is for updated visuals
and trophies

I have the Japanese Vita version and it looks great. Yes, it's not native-res but the visuals are vastly improved from the original. And don't forget that on PS3 the game runs at 720p iirc, so its not full HD either.

FFX on Vita for me. Aside from the handheld answer, the Vita's amazingly done sleep-back to game(suspend?) system can help you chug through the game. Especially since it is a JRPG.

Completely agree. The suspend feature is like a godsend, especially for RPGs. I can grind the whole day just about anywhere and stop and restart at any time I want.

-snip-
So, I'm a jRPG noob, I've only gone through Breath of Fire 4, P4G and Trails in the Sky (and Grandia kind of).

Never played a FF game. Is X a good place to start? What are they like? I'll be getting it on Vita if I do.

It's a great place to start with the FF series. Once you are done with it and fall in love with the series though
(yes, you WILL love it)
, I'm sure you'll really enjoy other great entries on the series, like VII, VIII, IV, IX and of course, the masterpiece that is VI.

Is the Vita underpowered or is it lazy devs that we are getting subnative games? :/

It is an order of magnitude less powerful than the consoles. But then again, phone processors are still not as powerful as consoles. Depends on what you mean by underpowered. Developers work on a budget. Technically, every game can be 60fps full res, but some devs want more resources spent on other things, in which case resolution is usually compromised. Mind you, just about every game on the ps360 is sub native since most tvs are 1080p. Devs make the same compromises on consoles as on the vita.

Pretty much this. I read somewhere that with some Vita games, making them native res and run at 60fps, while possible, might cause overheating and/or extremely fast battery consumption. So developers sometimes have to make sacrifices in order to deliver the best portable experience.

With FFX I don't mind though, the game is not native res but it is at least the same resolution as Uncharted, and it looks just as good or even better. And since it is an RPG, I don't mind it being 30fps either.

I'm not sure how enjoyable it would be on the touch screen. Are you guys familiar with the pc version? It's pretty heavy point&click-wise

Haven't played it and I remember there was a lot of talk before about how it would work on the Vita, but if they could get it on decently I'd give it a try with how popular the game is (which is kinda surprising just from brief looks). Although it's probably going to make you feel shitty rejecting decent people (for immigration).

Really? I asked in the last thread on the game and someone told me it was 1080p :|

Might as well save my money and play em on PCSX2. Saying it looks as good as Uncharted spinoff is not exactly enticing me to get the Vita version. That game looked like a jaggy mess.

I read up a bit on 999 and started Virtue's Last Reward over the weekend. The story is interesting so far, but the controls are incredibly frustrating. The touchscreen camera controls are inverted and have some sort of momentum to them. Alternatively, you can use the analog stick to move the cursor and camera, but if you want to rotate the camera using the stick, you have to first move the cursor to the edge of the screen. Why couldn't they just make one analog stick for controlling the camera and the other for controlling the cursor? Why aren't there settings to un-invert the camera controls and change camera sensitivity? And why does it take so many steps just to use an item?

I'll continue playing VLR for the story, but if ZE3 ever happens (seems unlikely at the moment), Chunsoft really needs to fix up some of the controls and menus.

Why would you want to play Papers, Please on a Vita? It's really not the right platform for this.

I'll admit that I haven't played it yet, but there have been enough good PC-to-Vita ports that I'm willing to give this one the benefit of the doubt, too. As someone else said, I'm sure Curve could do a fine job with it.

yoooo look what I just got, the lord god of art drawings from I to XIII

I wonder if Gust could release an Atelier Iris 1-3, Mana Khemia 1-2 and Ar Tonelico 1-2. HD collection.... I would do anything to play them in HD or in Vita... I played them so much on the PS2 that Gust was one of my favorite developers back then.

I miss 2D RPG turn based games....

While you're at it please do a .Hack// and .Hack// G.U. HD collection too CC and Bandai Namco!

Sony could do a little Dark Cloud collection too!

Wow.

can you guys imagine.... Shenmue HD announced for the Vita?

#dreams #waitingtobeshattered
It's nice to dream.

Then again Sega put Jet Set Radio on Vita so who knows, if they ever do another batch of Dreamcast HD remasters we might get lucky and get a Vita port for it.
Both of these are probably not going to happen ;_;
I seriously hate the new design. The old blog was a lot more comfortable to navigate. It was more like a blog.
Same here and agreed completely. I used to enjoy browsing the blog, now it's a chore with the new design.

what did he do btw?
hmm.. too bad Terraria Vita isn't on sale

It's got some minor slowdown when the action get heavy. But with all the recent updates, and cross play with the PS3 it's great, I got the Plat on the vita version.

With all the patches, the Vita performance is now on par to the PS3 version. The Vita version improved greatly since launch.

Using the touchscreen for item searching and opening chests worth the price of admission.

Yeah the item inventory sucks. You can move the camera with the L and R buttons too, which is what I've been doing.

I'm not sure about the console resolution stuff. It might well be 1080p, but I'm almost sure I read somewhere that was not the case.

If that's all you care about though, you should just emulate the game on your PC as you suggest and just stay away from any of the console entries. I'm more hyped about the additional stuff of the games: Upgraded (not just up-res) textures, new sphere grid, native widescreen support, trophies, Eternal Calm, Last Mission, Dark Aeons, Penance. All of that in a game that looks substantially better than the original and that I can take anywhere.

Also, perhaps the U:GA comparison was not the best. That game is definitely jaggy, which is something I don't see with FFX. You should check some videos on YouTube, those should give you at least an idea of how the game looks on Vita.

Edit: Found a nice video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=4Rrhcog0ZHk

I haven't actually played a game on my PS3 in awhile but a free copy of Brothers works for me! Heard so many good things about it.. maybe I'll actually give it a shot.

Since I have to buy Hatsune Miku by the 4th with all the DLCs needed for it, I think I'll only get Hotline Miami + Machinarium to make it under my budget (50$). I would only overshoot it by .21 cents but thank God I still have a few cents to cope with that.

Has anyone purchased Machinarium before? Any impressions of the game?

That reminds me where my HD Skies of Arcadia Sega ?

Shattered dreams:

Afaik, it's mostly due to legal/copyright reasons.

back in '12 you may remember that Sega went into a port spree. JSR, Nights...they thought it was a great idea, with very low risk and nice proft potential since, well, they don't want to fund traditional AAA anymore. Multiple ports were in development, among them was the canceled Skies of Arcadia port.

Shenmue case was special since not many people know this, but apparently the engine for both games uses licensed technology. It's not Bink Video or Sofdec codecs, apparently it's related to the very own engine.

Well, the thing is, according to what I've been told, the owner of those technologies folded years ago, and it's not clear who owns the copyright now.

Someone shown Sega a working Shenmue prototype for Xbox 360...but after disappointing sales by JSR and Nights, they didn't care enough to bother with the legal hassle. So it never went through the prototype stage, and the Skies of Arcadia port was canceled.

And I guess my dream of getting Model 3/later arcade games ports went to shit as well ;(

And how do I make a Japanese memory card for Sony's portable so I can try Disgaea 4's demo out...? Reset the system and format the card yeah?

Backup any save data on your Vita to your PC through Content Manager. Then do a reset of your card and Vita to login to your Japanese account.

Why cant i download the Dragon Ball Battle of Z Vita demo from the PAL PSN store ?

Have you tried buying the demo on the webstore, and then looking through your download list?

Also, to keep this on topic, anyone know when the second/third parts of Trails in the Sky will be on US PSN?

SC will be out sometime this year. I doubt TC ever comes out on PSN.

Shattered dreams:

-snip-

In don't know which hurts more:

- The fact that the Skies of Arcadia port was already in development.
- The fact that we could have gotten a SoA port that was soooo good, since the JSR port on Vita and PS3 was amazing.
- The fact Sega made the brilliant call to judge potential sales of two of their most important franchises (SoA and Shenmue) based just on sales of JSR and Nights.

Still, hope lives.
Skies of Arcadia Vita HD on Kickstarter once they drop the trademark.
