Yes there's no way Rust is the killer. Him being suspected by the current investigators is just a narrative point to show there are still people working against him. There is no twist here.

i agree that rust is not the killer. i'm kind of leaning towards the idea that rust is the one descending into madness after discovering the yellow king is still out there. similar to the way anyone who reads the second act of the play goes mad in the book.

Oh I know, I find it odd that people are even debating that he is. I'm just saying, if he is then it is Heavy Rain levels of shit. That fucking nonsense game.

lol now I almost want there to be some shit Shyamalan-level Rust-is-the-killer twist at the end just to see the internet meltdowns.

From Joel McHale's Twitter account:
Here's @RashisTVUgly & I shooting a #GameOfThrones parody for @TheSoup...wait...

you're the worst type of person

Edit: if either Rust or Marty is the killer, I'll request a perma and be banished from GAF forever. Its not going to happen.

FTFY, it's the 90's, no show yet.

First book came out in 1996. He's clearly reading it.

Would try to channel a Rust answer but too hungover. Something something the despair of man to find peace in reality and the desire to create new worlds where we can escape.

Rust isn't the killer. I feel he is actually undercover, not just investigating on his own, though. The two interviewing detectives are a task force set up by whoever it is in order to try to pin it all on Rust. These are just my guesses.

Yeah, Nolan definitely made a good choice casting him. Interstellar will have hype because of Nolan, but a few of my friends are going to see it purely because they started watching True Detective and falling in love with MM.

has there ever been a time in history where the mediums are on comparable levels that could allow such a thing?

Since at least 1999 when the Sopranos started airing, and that's being incredibly narrow-minded about the whole thing. So pretty much since film and television began.

Has anyone ever won the Oscar and Emmy for best actor in the same year? Because MM, wow.

Is TD eligible for this year's Emmy's? Honestly, I think it will be tough beating Cranston this year. IMO some of his best work came in the second half of Season 5. Ozymandias alone should nab him the Emmy. I would love MM to win though over him (and I'm a huge BB/Cranston fan). I just feel like that show will sweep everything thing since it ended, and generally most critics/fans and the industry loved it and were obsessed with it (to levels we haven't seen before).

Also what category would this fall under? I know American Horror Story is technically under "Mini-Series" because of the anthology style of the show. But then again, I think that was a choice made by the creator to better compete. I guess one could submit a one off 8 episode season into the Drama category. Will be interesting to the say the least!

If Rust is the killer then this is Heavy Rain levels of shit

Now, I'm not one to judge something before seeing the execution. But Rust being the killer, would be on the level of "split personality" cliche in story. Would tank the season I would think.
