One last reminder that the Matthew McConaughey appearance on Inside the Actors' Studio is on in about an hour on Bravo. Presumably there will be clips available afterwards, too.

Just finished episode 4. Man. This show is the master of episode endings, to the point where they don't even need a damn preview.

I'm watching this now. He's very charismatic and they regularly cut away to the swooning audience. They also have a bunch of hilarious pictures from when he was young.

There's a bunch of clips here.

EDIT: Only a couple minutes of TD talk about about the 30 minute mark. :/ The rest of it is fun, though.

The final episode will look exactly like that image, except it takes place inside Cohle's mind, and it was filmed entirely using stop motion.

I think I may be missing something.

We as the audience already know that Rust isn't the killer, right? If we had only been shown Rust with Marty or other people, steering the investigation as was mentioned, then I could see that possibility, but we've seen Rust working the case on his own multiple times. I mean even at the end of episode 5 (pretty sure that was 2002 Rust) he was investigating on his own and found those wooden sculptures. If he was behind it all then...why is he investigating any of this?

Not sure if those needed to be spoilered, but I mentioned stuff in episode 5 so just thought I'd be safe.

Yes there's no way Rust is the killer. Him being suspected by the current investigators is just a narrative point to show there are still people working against him. There is no twist here.

Episode 5 material should not be "spoilered," it already aired. That will just cause confusion when it comes to actual spoilers about unaired material.

And I don't think the viewers are supposed to buy into the Rust = killer thing at this point, we've seen too much. Unless they pull a bunch of scenes from an elevated position of unbiased omnidimensional space-time where the true nature of Rust is revealed- that nature being the rotting core of the human species which begins its inevitable decay from the moment of conception and can drive the individual to all manner of heinous acts performed in a universally circular pattern- I think the twist lies elsewhere.

As the cops should be. They don't know this is a show on HBO, they are cops doing their job of looking at the guy who showed up at a murder scene.

The cops would be negligent if their main suspect wasn't Rust.

Started watching this show last night. I'm 3 episodes in (so I have to be careful entering this thread). Really digging it. Though I do have to watch this with subtitles because some of those southern accents are really difficult to understand at times (not a native English speaker).

Ooh and I absolutely love the opening credits!

Yeah, that's what I figured. I've been seeing stuff on Facebook, Twitter and other places wondering about the possibility and like all this speculation, so I thought I was out of the loop or something because that possibility made no sense to me.

Which is great. Don't think I'd be a fan of that twist.

I am a native English speaker and the accents are hard as hell to make out sometimes. Most of the characters mumble a lot too.

I would be lost without subtitles because those Texan accents are really, really hard to understand for me even though I think I can understand English quite good

Marty sometimes doesn't even bother to open is mouth properly to say something :lol I think it adds a lot to the overall atmosphere

Quite a mannerism to pick up isn't it? Everytime Rust goes into a dangerous situation he checks his pulse, as if checking his own mortality before he goes back into the darkness. He did the same thing in an earlier episode.
It could be a planned and cultivated habit, not just a mannerism. Rust is just the kind of badass for it.

There are schools of swordmanship which have techniques like that. Before entering a battle, you check your pulse to confirm that you are in optimum, ice cold condition instead of overtly angry, afraid or agitated which would make you weaker. If it's not right, you use meditation/breathing/etc. techniques to regain balance, or reconsider fighting. If you still have to fight, at least you are more aware of your condition.

So I came up with a theory last night, and I think it's pretty sound:

If you notice, they play GoT promos before every episode of True Detective. Now, one of the big story points in there is that King Joffrey is blond. Somehow, Joffrey creates an interdimensional rift and travels to 1990s Louisiana, and continues his sadistic habits on the local populace, as well as using his noble personality and mindset to create a following among the poorer members of the community.

I'm pretty sure this is all going to check out.

Of course! The antlers are just an expression of his Baratheon heritage!

Tomorrow my copy of "The King in Yellow' arrives. Somehow I had to have it. It was only 5 euro so it is worth it and it will look cool on my bookshelf ;)

Chole is a serial killer and he will turn up in Hannibal season 2. Turns out that Mads Mikkelsen is the new Yellow King, he is following in the footsteps of his mentor, the former Yellow King, Anthony Hopkins.

That is why the antlers are seen in both shows.

Brought to you and paid for by NBC.

Watch Hannibal on February 28, 9/10c.
