That has been one of my concerns as well. Yes, GamePass has a LOT of games to play. But does it have the games I want to play?

I pay $180 per year for GamePass, but then I still have to buy Assassin Creed Valhalla, Immortal Fenyx Rising, Demon's Souls, Spider-Man, Cyberpunk 2077, Control UE, Hitman 3, RDR2, etc., when they release.

If I purchase them, my gaming budget goes berserk. If I don't purchase them, I'll be filling my time with games that I don't really want to play. That's a double-edged sword. I'm glad GamePass is working so well for so many gamers, but I haven't been able to get past this problem yet.
I understand the thinking here, some months I don’t even touch Gamepass, but then there are other months where it feels like I’m ripping off someone for having so much to play. The standard subcription fee is higher but I’m currently paying $5 per month and that is definitely worth every penny, can’t even buy a pizza for that.

Yeah, $5 is awesome. That's also why I don't mind paying for PS Now (I get it for $40 per year), and I know I'll get at least 2-3 games per year that I'd really like to play. The problem is when you have to pay $15.

I'm thinking of subscribing intermittently. Like near the end of the year, I'll subscribe for 3 months, play all the games that joined prior to that and are available, and then unsubscribe after that. It'll cost me $30-$45. And that'll allow me to become a more 'patient' gamer with PlayStation releases to get them on sales.

Yeah I’ve considered a similar approach once my cheap sub ends. It’ll suck if you really want to be there day 1 for a big release but the upside is that you’ll get to play the patched games. I played through Ori and the Will of the Wisps with the early stutter issues, in it’s current state on XSX it’s a super-polished 9/10 game for me, amazing even, but it wasn’t that day 1.

I get so much value out of games that I wouldn't buy otherwise. Monster Hunter World, Subnautica, Deep Space Galactic, Spiritfarer, Call of the Sea, the Medium, Dead Cells, Streets of Rage 4, Hellblade for example. Having gamepass does encourage me to explore games I might not spend money on otherwise but that is a good thing. I would encourage the people complaining about nothing to play to just try some of the games as you might be pleasantly surprised.

Shoulda just delayed the console imo
If you frame it like the console is only valuable for new releases then maybe, but every game I play is noticeably better on Series X compared to our One X. Even waiting for new first party output as we are, I'm glad that I can play everything as a better experience than last gen and they didn't delay it.

What if they could’ve made it even better if they had delayed it?

CPU, GPU, SSD, RAM tech improves all the time, except on consoles where things are now locked until 2023 or whenever an upgrade may appear.

But!!!
The upside for MS 1st party games is that they’re available on PC too. It’s easy to forget. Imagine Fable on a beastly PC ❤️

Only Halo Infinite, Psychonauts 2 and Age of Empires 4 for 2021?

Should’ve launched the console next year instead and used the extra time to improve the specs.
Giving Sony an additional year would be outright suicide.

I mean as a primarily PC gamer with a beastly rig I run into that situation all the time. Do I get a new GPU now or next hardware update? There always is a point in which you actually suck it up and purchase and acknowledge that something better will release soon but if you ever want to play, you have to buy something.

Yeah I’m mainly on PC too, it’s a weird hobby, has it’s ups and downs. Right now I’m kinda cranky since I cancelled a 3080 preorder and now I can’t find any 30xx card! Sitting with a 4yo 1080ti :s

You mean hopefully 2022 and beyond.

Quantity wise it's a good output, but quality is still a problem.

What 1st party quality problem are you talking about?
Was Gears ever low quality? Was Halo ever low quality? Was Forza ever low quality? Hell, Sea of Thieves wasn't even bad for what it was.
..That's literally all they had from 1st party last gen (after closing Lionhead and Twisted Pixel).

They're problem has always been quantity of 1st party studios..and the narratives (as recent as just 2 and a half years ago) were "Halo Gears and Forza, wash rinse repeat"..."Nothing new to get excited for"..."Give us a roadmap" etc.

It's funny to see people squeezing what they can now out of these old narratives while they can (during the time these new games from all these studios are being developed) because the writing is basically on the wall. Microsoft will have the most content this gen, easily.

I have decided the 3080TI will be my next GPU so I'm trying to plan accordingly but I understand. I really appreciate microsofts approach with PC and cross-platform cloud saves are amazing. It's awesome to have the ability to game in my office on PC or in the living room on SeriesX and continue the game flawlessly.

I mean yes I like this about it. I do play it more than my PS5 currently - I just wish they both had more new games.
