They still make good consoles though. In MS most successful generation they put out a console that had a failure rate of >30%. They definitely suck the most at making consoles.

My Series X half-died like a few months after the warranty ran out. And now it's like twice the price. So I voted MS.

All of them are trash but Microsoft is on another level. They were the ones who standardized paying for online. They were the ones on the forefront of trying to make 24/7 DMR a thing. They were the ones who tried to bundle kinect on their consoles while that thing would be spying on you 24/7. They were the ones who pushed this streaming-like service where generated a faster enshitification of games to meet catalog quotas in the services. They were the ones who started the spending spree of acquisitions across the industry to take out the adversaries with fuck-you money in attempt to suffocate Sony and Nintendo from 3rd parties like it was done in the PC segment in the 90s.

A lot of what we are seeing is because Xbox was incompetent as an adversary. Now Sony followed their trends and made some of their worst decisions ever in this gen. If we had something like steam on consoles you bet things would be a whole lot different in terms of customer service and offerings.

But in terms of engineering, the PS5 is the best console ever made.

• Cheap third party keys available
• Good refund policy
• Free cloud saves
• Good backward compatibility

Sony doesn't have these, nor do they have much in terms of exclusives this gen. Nintendo at least has plenty of exclusives and unique hybrid appeal.

PS1 - texture warping canceled out the other advanced capabilities of the hardware
PS2 - terrible textures, complicated architecture
PS3 - complicated architecture, high price
PS4 - loud
PS5 - clunky form factor that forces you to use a separate stand
