What games have the most detailed in-game character models?

So the other day I was playing Mafia ToC and I noticed how detailed the characters look during gameplay, and got me thinking about how far we've come when it comes to this. Clothing isn't just some texture but actually modeled, stubble can be seen on Enzo's face, even more so and detailed in photo mode.

However, that doesn't count. Photo modes often have even better graphical fidelity, this is solely about in-game characters models, so during gameplay.

Mafia ToC is one. The last of Us Part 2 definitely is one. The Resident Evil remakes absolutely too. Well, name em and show them if you want.

"no photo mode because im wrong"

eat shit
Well he's not really wrong in that aspect, photo mode is not "in game". TLoU2's models look amazing in cutscenes (and when doing photo mode shenanigans) and have excellent animation work in gameplay, but in the actual gameplay itself they just look very good.

Death Stranding 2 is a great pick though, that games in-game models look basically identical to the cutscenes assets which already look damn near photorealistic at parts.

I think the best single model is The Destined One.

The level of detail on the fur, armor, and clothes is ridiculous.

He's right though. Too much bullshit going on in Photo Mode.

LoU 2 and DS2, HFW is also up there alongside Hellblade 2, BG3 is pretty good but not as good as the other 4

nothing else comes close imho

Well, I could get top scars and vitiligo in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. That is the expected level of detail I want this gen.

Also, that hair physics. Bitches love hair physics.

Can your game give me top scars and vitiligo? I think not!

I see Hellblade 2 being mentioned a few things. It's one of those games I still need to check out but first I need to get on with the first one.

"if I pick PS5 game over PS4 game, the PS5 game is better"
People have no brain?

If you want compare TLOUp2 compared to something similar in the same era.

And no comment for people saying "pls no photo mode pls pls", but sharing "menu model" like "faithully" ingame.. đź§

Dude, you have issues. You keep calling people stupid or brainless and then moving goalposts for yourself. Nobody cares that someone posted a menu screen because they aren't being a jackass like you are.

Also, TLOU2 has some of the best animations of any game I've played, it being a PS4 game is irrelevant. There's some games that have excellent model work from almost decades ago (MGS4 and Sonic Unleashed, iirc Unleashed is still one of the highest poly models of Sonic out there). You need to chill out or STFU. You're not very bright yourself.

Horizon is still king as far as open worlds, and it's not really that behind compared to smaller games, the power of metahumans:
The most impressive thing is that every npcs, no matter how unimportant it is, it's as detailed as aloy, pretty much no other games do this.

Good shit for sure. But is that all while in photo mode, or also during actual gameplay?

LA Noire character models still hold up and the facial animations still look better than most modern games.

Yeah I guess I'm talking about the cutscene models but half the game is interrogations during cutscenes

Underrated game with one of the most ballsy endings I've ever seen.

I mean during cutscenes the models are zoomed in but you can run the game now, turn the camera and zoom on aloy and the details are all there.

Some of the pics are not cutscenes.

Also, unless you wanna take pics with your smartphones directyl from the tv, photomode is pretty much the only way to take screenshots on console.

I tried the smartphone technique but pics looks pixelated and horrible most of the times.

People keep posting images from Photo Mode where you have 100x render time to process a single frame.
Yes. It is rendering...checks notes... the character model...............

Also, you can dislike TLoU2 and HFW for whatever reason, but to say the character models aren't some of the more detailed is just letting your bias and dislike cloud an objective reality.

Crazy bitch 2 is probably the clear winner, senua in terms of details beat pretty much everyone.

I know very zoomed, but when the quality of models is similar, it's the zoom on microdetails that make all the difference.

They are just super uneven so most characters don't look this good.

A quick Google search can explain the difference between photo-mode rendering and in-game rendering which is why the OP specifically asked for in-game renders.

It's way harder to find super zoomed screenshots for characters outside of cutscenes\photomode unfortunately.

I personally never take pics so what i posted is what i found on the internet.

Share button? Idk how it works on PS5 but on PS4 you literally just press (and hold) the button to get an in-game screenshot.

On Steam the default is F12 for in-game screenshots.

I literally never take screenshots so i'm more ignorant than you on the matter:lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Also i'm at work so i can only search for stuff on the internet for now and i'm probably too lazy to install 100 gb of horizon to take real pics when i get home :lollipop_grinning_sweat:
