Remakes have been a thing since forever. In gaming, movies, anything.I don't understand why it has to be this way. I would preferred them cancelled it to work on the next mainline entry. Move on instead of clinging to your former glory.

It's a solid concept. Remake something beloved with todays standards. Sometimes it surpasses the original; sometimes it doesn't.
I think this will be an amazing ff game.
With the change to the battle system, Square made it clear that old FF7 fans like me are not the target demographic for this remake. It's for a new audience through and through. People who like their games in bits and think turn based combat is something that can go out of date. To those people, enjoy.
I think that remaking this game is a waste of time and money to begin with.
I would really like anyone saying this game is gonna be 30 hours long to somehow explain how we'd get that many hours of content between the sector 7 reactor and leaving midgar in a 3rd person action game.
I don't think they will release years from each other. I am estimating around a 1-1.5 year window between each "episode". They have the engine, they more than likely have most of the story planned out already, now it is just putting the pieces together and fixing whatever isn't loved inbetween episodes (such as tightening up any issues with spells, balancing, etc).
LOL "just remake all the character models and all the environments" that is a full remake! It would have been so much easier to just remaster the original with new character models and backgrounds (With some QOL changes).
Actually, I think I would have prefered that over a full remake.

... I want Legend... not Trails...My problem with this remake, is they took too long to make it. And now we have to wait for years for episodic content.
the Trails of Mana remake looks more promising than this.
You have way too much faith in square enix's work ethic.By greatly expanding the entire segment.
Make every dungeon bigger/longer, have new dungeons/areas/bosses, make a much larger part of Midgar accessible to the player and turn it into a big explorable city instead of a bunch of small interconnected areas, greatly expand the amount of sidequests and side content, add whole new story elements that weren't in the original like those ghost-like creatures they have shown in the trailers or the new encounter with Sephiroth, etc, etc.
Again, for the better or worse this isn't a 1:1 remake with updated graphics. It's basically a whole franchise of AAA RPG's based on.

Care to elaborate on that great counterpoint?
Are you suggesting that since the PS1 game up to leaving Midgar was about 5 hours, that this game will have that same amount of content?
The parts that are remade look fantastic but if they are going to take this 5 hours segment and turn it into a full length RPG they will have to add a ton of new content, and that's what I'm still not sold on. Will the pacing be good? Will the new content expand the world in an interesting way or feel like padding? Will all the new story bits be as abysmal as the plot and writing in literally everything Nomura has been in charge of during his entire career? Is the studio that has been unable to tell a good story for a single player final fantasy game for at least the past 10 years going to ruin the plot of VII by adding dozens or hundreds of hours of new content? Are the mostly terrible sidequests in FFXV any indication of the sort of "content" we can expect to stretch 5 hours into 30?
Midgar is like 5 hours at best, right?
So if they continue that trend... math was never my strong subject, but... wouldn't that be like $480?
At the very least, they will "need" to make 4 of these $60 "episodes," which in itself is ridiculous.
I think you are kidding yourself here1997: leaving Midgar meant you have been playing the game for 5 hours.
2020: leaving Midgar meant you have been playing the game for 30 hours.
They have no plan.I am pretty sure the plan is three games.
