The studio behind the critically acclaimed Vampire Survivors has confirmed that the footage shown from its unannounced ‘Directer’s Cut’ earlier this month is legit, and that its contents will be coming to the main game.

In early August, author and accessibility consultant Laura Kate Dale tweeted that she had attended an event for the game’s upcoming co-op mode, and was “pulled aside” to look at a different version of the game.

According to Dale, who included gameplay footage in her tweet, the new version features “wild new characters, stages, weapons, accessories and evolutions”.

Now, at the end of its latest Steam update, developer Poncle has made reference to the new version.

Did you see any of the Directer’s Cut footage online?” the update asks. “That’s something we’ve been doing in most events (since TGS 2022) – hiding some of the future content for the game in plain sight, but this time it blew up online!

While the actual menu screen might never appear in game, all the new content shown in that version is scheduled to be fully developed and released in future free updates.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I bought this game, it was a few bucks but whatever, it's the stupidest shit imaginable. I don't get it, maybe it's a zoomer thing.
I'm super old, and it's one of my most played games in the past decade. 75 hours on Steam, another 55 on Xbox, 35 on Android, currently about 10 on Switch where I'm playing in co-op with my grown son and having a blast.

It's definitely not a zoomer thing. Maybe you're just not cool?

Clearly you've not evolved the Holy Bible and experienced the joy of running through thousands of enemies trying to get close to you as you cut them down like they're ants whilst you wait for death.

Honestly, this game got so overrated. It's a fun little game don't get me wrong, but the hype over it got way overblown.
Pretty much my thoughts as well.

Enjoyed it for a good 10-15 hours, then haven't touched it since. I found some maps better than others and getting to the "end" was pretty fun.

What a boomer thing to say, j/k.

For real though there's nothing "zoomer" about this, since bullet hells are firmly Gen X and Millenial games, nothing gen z about it.

quite a stretch to think you can just go afk when starting; you don't get to afk until you learn what everything does and have unlocked many abilites.

No its not. Bullet hells are insanely difficult and require extreme timing and coordination from start to end. Vampire Survivors is hard for like two minutes and then you can shut off your brain and have a wank at it. Its not a bullet hell game and it's certainly a modern gimmicky shit that casuals love.

"Director's Cut"? I dont understand why devs like treat their game like its movie?

This is a free update? I should learn to read :)

I just bought the game because it was £3 lol. I downloaded it on my phone and I’m hooked. Haven’t installed or played it on Steam yet. Such a fun addictive game.

Yes it is, if not stream the game right now with a fresh save/nothing unlocked and show us going afk after 2 mins.

I didn't say it was, it's a reverse bullet hell game, so it clearly takes from the genre bullet hell which is not a gen z thing; reading comprehension is hard I know.

I like it for the occasional game, and I think works great for that. Much I like I’ll just fire up Devil Daggers for a few rounds.

I miss playing the pre-patched iOS version where you could select all three upgrades with multitouch and actually get them all. It was so fun and OP...

Collectively, I have at least 200 hours logged playing this game.

Game starts out kinda tough.
But with enough unlocks you become massively op.

But shit doesn't stop there.
Being extremely op isn't op enough.
Not even a demi god.

You become actual god.

I've still don't think I've went back to experience the first post-release DLC.

It was fun, but I think I'm kinda done with it for a while.

Amazing game, will keep an eye on this.

Ah yes, first post, if you don’t like something throw some pejorative at it to justify your position, because of course only “Zoomers” could enjoy this.

I was very disappointed with it. I put a good few hours into it waiting for it to get better, opened up loads of characters, loads of levels evolving multiple weapons in a run but nope, this is as good as it gets. Very little depth and only a couple of minutes of make or break gameplay at the start of each run to get enough momentum to sail through the rest of the run with ease.

Old folks have mobile casino games and candy crush. This game is the same but for zoomers/millenials. The casino like features and sounds trigger a dopamine response for some people while others remain unaffected. Explains why there's folks that dont see the appeal of this game. I really dont understand how they could sell this game with ripped Castlevania assets.

I'm not a zoomer or a millennial, but I find it massively enjoyable. I played for the first time a few weeks ago for some free Microsoft points, and was hooked.

Casual here.

Can confirm, I love this game.

Call me a crazy contrarian but Vampire Survivors is the most basic game you could make while tricking people into liking it.

It definitely feels like an evolution of the Cookie Clicker phase we went through however long ago, but I'll be damned if Vampire Survivors doesn't give me the right kind of dopamine hits. The Castlevania theme certain helps.

Despite the subsequent words in your reply, I feel vindicated because this is EXACTLY what I've thought about this game

I think the biggest condemnation of Vampire Survivors is that I've seen multiple people playing it on a mobile phone, and they seemed to be experiencing it the same as anyone else, just running around and doing the most basic of crowd control while getting le epic dopamine upgrades

No no no no, you're looking at it all wrong.

YOU are the bullet hell.

There is more depth than what you describe, but I certainly wouldn't call it a deep game or genre. I've been playing Halls of Torement which is Vampire Survivors with a Diablo theme and some bolted on mechanics, but those mechanics are just usually expanding the economy (gear and potions in this case) while steepening the difficulty curve of the enemies on subsequent levels.

That sounds really cool, but I think I could jump on top of the bad guys and defeat them in that way instead.

Really stupid term for this game "Director's Cut."

It makes sense for a narrative game like "Death Stranding". A "Complete Edition" or "GOTY Edition" would have made so much more sense.

I need to revisit the main game as I went a little off kilter on an mindless and ultimately pointless hunt for eggs. Decent game though, kind of taps into that idle game mechanic so you'll enjoy it if you're wired that way.
