Updated XBOX Console Prices

ladies and gentleman this right here...more than anything Asha, Greenberg or anyone else says....tells you EXACTLY how serious Xbox is about making their platform viable.

Short answer: If they wanted to throw Xbox a bone and make a serious effort to increase their user base this is exactly the opposite of what they should be doing.

Dont believe what Xbox tells you, believe what they show you. They just showed you they are not serious.

I agree with this, but also how can you justify not raising prices when the memory costs have increased what, 5x in just like two years?

As much as I shit on Microsoft (it's a lot. It will always be a lot), I understand why they're raising the prices.

This is not the last price hike. This memory and storage crisis is going to get worse before it gets better. I'm just hoping someone starts significant more manufacturing ASAP.

XSX will cost more than what I paid for a PS5 Pro at launch..

that's NUTS

These consoles were produced LONG before the price raises.

we are entering Q2 earnings period, Sony will follow with a price increase within weeks, if not days.

Guess i am right, layoffs and price increases to keep shares prices high with AI narratives
Didn't Sony just increased the prices like 3 months ago? they were the first ones if I remember correctly. I really doubt we are going to get another increase this year.
Microsoft just held off as much as they could

Yup. I'm expecting they'll say something along the lines of "we're exploring the viability of current pricing in the market." And will follow that up next week with publicly announced price increases for all hardware.

Am I going insane? I thought they Already increased prices for SeriesX/S...?? Or is this for ALL regions now?
The Series X launched at $499 in Nov. 2020. In May 2025 they announced the price was going up to $599. Then in September 2025 it went up again to $649. Now it's going up to $799. So this is the third price increase announced in the last 13 months.

Seriously had to re-read to make sure it was a price increase and not decrease...

I was half expecting them to do the opposite, because if you don't have an Xbox at this point, you're probably someone on last gen and it's time to upgrade and entrench them. May as well if XSX/S production is basically done. Why not with Helix around the corner?

But now if you're a total neutral who wants to play GTA6, they're all getting PS5s. This seems like them just trying to make Xbox One people pay more.
Why would you expect the opposite when production costs are skyrocketing and going to continue to do so? This is unlikely the last price hike for XBOX or the other consoles. There's also no way Helix releases anytime soon with the memory and storage shortage. 2029 seems more and more likely.

I give this industry, on the whole, two more years before everything completely collapses.

Nintendo and most of the Asian devs will weather things fine. Some of the Western indies will be fine. Sony, Microsoft, and Western AAA? Good friggin' luck not taking catastrophic damage, but I think this is delayed consequences of a generally bad path the industry started tracking with since the late '00s.

Everything's finally catching up, and the results are disastrous. This isn't just about these Xbox price increases (they're part of it obviously): mass layoffs, hardware price increases, GTA6, studio closures, massively inflated budgets, massively inflated dev times, steep Hollywood influence creep, activist investors, stupid investors in general, trend-chasing CEOs, extreme standardization of best practices, government censorship, political activists & extremists grifting for influence, rising game costs for consumers, damaging M&As, stifled innovation, etc.

Everything's compounding, and the worst has yet to come.

I never thought I'd see the day where buying the console at launch of a generation was cheaper. I think that the video game industry needs to take a hard look and consider significant cuts to game budgets because the future looks rocky.

I don't understand the strategy here, if it was up to me, stop production on all Series S, and the Series X Disc. Only have Series X Digital on the market until Helix, and have 3 Console SKUs for Helix. Then let the chips fall where they may.

Imagine if GTA6 wasn't a thing. Hardware sales would be at disastrous lows YoY this Fall for everybody except Nintendo.

The industry is fucked.
I was reading about Apple's situation before seeing this news about the Xbox console price increase... It's not just the video game industry (PC/Consoles), it goes much further than that.

The thing is, with a 2.5x increase in component prices and the expectation that it will be 5x by the end of the year... things are looking dire. An Xbox Series X costs almost double what I paid for mine back then (€400).

We'll have to see how prices evolve in 2027, but certainly, with the current situation, the Helix/PS5 would be going for $1500+.
