Something seriously has to be done about the splitting up of parties in Social playlists. It shouldn't happen. It's zero fun for the one person from our party that gets sent to the other team.

I just went into Rocket Race with a friend and it split us up. Rocket Race. A two person per team playlist and it split us up.

The splitting up of parties in Social playlists pretty much defeats the whole purpose of "parties."

EDIT: Got split up again. Oh, I see - they allow more than two/odd-numbered parties to go into the Rocket Race playlist. Makes no sense.

Anyway, no more of that playlist.
Didn't Stinkles say in WWU that the next patch will fix it? I've had it happen to us in BTB a couple times.

Halo falling to #2 means nothing, people.

You have to give everyone time to try games like Cock o' Doody 4.

Also, Major Nelson's chart specifies UU (Unique Users)

I guarantee Halo 3 has more consistent users. Not people who just Rent COD4, play it for a week and send it back (Like I did, and many people I know.)

Yup, I did this. Halo 3 was worth the buy. I couldn't see myself playing COD4 for too long. It probably the best rental I had since Bioshock (played it over fall break, great game, just couldn't see myself playing it more than once)

Okay, am I crazy, seeing things or are there different shades of the Legendary insignia next to a mission on the 'Mission Select' screen? I finally finished the game on Legendary and I thought I noticed some subtle differences between some of the "skulls."

I got some "inspiration" for a new map the other day watching a match with a few complete noobs (some female friends). Inspiration is in quotes, because the resulting map is probably the least inspired and most boring map ever. Which is kinda the point. Also, I'm sure it's already been done to death, but whatever.

The players in Girl Fight '08 spent most of the time looking at the sky or floor, and the rest of the time lost. When time ran out, the final score was 1, 0, 0, -1. I had actually forgotten how hard it was for me to control the dual sticks the first time I played, and the game was a hilarious reminder.

So, I present to you: Kansas, a map even my mom can play. I'm not going to lie; I pretty much just took a Grifball arena and added some weapons. The openness of the map makes it impossible to get lost, and if the noob manages to keep their perspective level, they will see their opponents. And if the stars align, they might even get a kill.

Spawns are in the corners, with a BR and stickies close by. Shotguns spawn on the walls on the spine, with snipers in the middle of the other walls. Players that manage to make it to the middle are rewarded with rockets. Players with any modicum of skill will probably want to beeline it for the snipers... but then again, this map isn't really for players of skill.

Second slot.

No need for pics, you can pretty much imagine what it looks like.

I think they use matchmaking cause it's just easier for the sheer volume of players on those games. However both Shadowrun and TF2 let you play the same games with the same people over and over. Shadowrun has a host who can select the games he or other people want to play, same with TF2 and it even has a list of games you can browse so it's not single serving matches. It results in the far superior experience cause you can just get a game full of good players and keep playing. I've already articulated the reasons why I think a public list would be better and if you don't agree that's fine but you certainly don't state and of the advantages of a matchmaking system probably because they are a few and far between.

Volume of players is one reason they use it (calling that option easier is a bit steep, it was a bit of a technical challenge in Halo 2 i believe) but i think also because of competition. With the ranked playlist you can find a bunch of people with a similar skill 90+% of the time and have a pretty close game. Social unranked games not so much but ive never had as close a game as i have on Halo 2 or 3 in any other game with server lists or the like. That, for me, is why i love Halo games. Nailbighters where a moment of sheer craziness can decide a wib or a loss. Good times

Yeah, I think it's just a graphical error. I've asked someone at Bungie about it and they honestly didn't even know what I was talking about.

I haven't played those games, but Halo 3 lets you "party up" with players that you want to keep playing with. Play one game with people, party up, then go into customs or social games all night.

I thought I'd toss in what the bungie.net overlord had to say on the subject over at HBO a few weeks back -

That's becaue standard server browsers don't work, and you aren't very observant if you think that they have been working. Step back and think about it. How many times have you looked a server list in a game, and couldn't find a fast server, with open slots, that let you play a game you want? How many times have you hit "join" and then been told that the server was full? How about if the host quits - who do you migrate to? What if doesn't want to play that game? What if the host is losing, and boots you to make things easier? And how many times have you gone into a game, thinking it was one type or map config, and then found out that it had been altered in an unpleasant way?
To put it in perspective of Halo - how many times has some jackass come into your forge session you forgot to close and screwed up hours of your work?

Now, before you say, "But, Achronos, my friends won't do that to me" remember that I'm talking about a server browser used for general users to join. You already essentially have one for your friends list... and their friends list too, using the friends of friends feature. Adding in anonymous custom game searching makes the above common place, where right now it is just your friends messing with you.

Server browsers are not the solution. Matchmaking playlists are really the best compromise for anonymous game gathering. Maybe for future games we make we'll try something different or alter our approach. But for now, this is the best we have in terms of game matching.

Hey, let's take this topic in another direction, perhaps to Ghaleon's satisfaction.

When was it first stated that Halo would be a trilogy?

If the answer to this is before Halo 2 was released, then there's a missing piece of the puzzle. With the troubled development of Halo 2 and recent confirmation that key parts in Halo 3 (the battle back on Earth, the Arbiter having his revenge) were really the left-overs of the rushed Halo 2, what was Halo 3 originally intended to be? A longer adventure on the Ark? Or something else entirely?

Achronos put it so much better than me! But he is right, its part of the reasons i stopped playing Rainbow Six: Vegas. I could never find a good match to join (or Gears for that matter) but part of that is cos im from th UK and good ping is a rare luxury :lol

I imagine the original planned ending of Halo 2 would have been the opening of the Ark, considering it was shown in one of Bungie's story or white boards from Halo 2. So I guess all of 3 would have been set on the Ark.

So the Prophet of Truth would be dead and the Brutes would continue onto the Ark?

I don't know, where was it ever said the Arbiter would kill Truth at the end of 2? Of course even with the Truth taken care of, I imagine High Charity would have still gone through the portal. However a whole game with nothing but flood as your enemy would have really stressed my love for this franchise.

Because I remember hearing from Staten himself (either the podcast or somewhere in the documentaries with the game, I can't remember exactly) that the line the Arbiter says before killing the Prophet was orginally written from Halo 2 and it's exactly the same in Halo 3, word for word.

It's also in the same podcast/documentary (whatever it was) that they reveal how they reused the missing Halo 2 finale for Halo 3 and stretched the story to make a whole game out of it.

I really don't think that people should neglect my last post.

It's being ignored because it's been said over, and over, and over, and over again.

You want to beat up a dead horse even more?

Bungie knows and top men are on it.

And so it should be! They are getting away with murder. Almost ... literally.

If someone came up to you and said "Your cooking sucks" and this was your first time getting such criticism, you'd be shocked, yes? You'd want to know why it sucks (the complaints about the game) and how to fix the suckiness (solutions/fixes to the game). So what do you do after getting advice on how to fix your cooking (how to fix the game), you start to make a new batch of food, only this time taking in the advice you received.

However, during this process of making a new batch, people would come banging on your door saying "Hey, your cooking sucks" "Dude, did you know you suck at cooking" "Yeah, you suck at cooking" "Stop cooking! You suck at it!" Wouldn't you get alittle irritated about hearing complaints about things you already knew about once before?

Bungie is making new cookies for us, but everyone keeps banging on their door telling them to make them faster, and constantly reminding them how their last batch was horrible. And a newly rushed batch of cookies is a horrible batch of cookies!

Let Bungie cook!

Why did I bother spending my money on the new maps when they are so rarely used in the playlists?

Uhh... because the new maps are only chosen in the regular playlist hoppers if ALL players have the new maps. So there's always a high chance that out of the 7 people you're matched with, one of them doesn't have the DLC. Or 4 people, if you have a party of 4. I don't know what the stats are about people buying the map pack, but even if it's 50% of people who bought it, (which is WAY high), and if you're matching against only 4 people and you have a party of 4 that all have the map pack, you only have a 6.25% chance of all 4 other players having the pack.

Yes, I made all of those numbers up

no joke the improvements from halo 2 far out way some of the problems people have with the game right now, and bungie has even said they are fixing melee so just chill

I just had a very strange moment occur in a ranked 3v3 team slayer game on Isolation. I was doing very well - which I should emphasize is, like those amazing weight loss ads, not typical - and basically crushed the other team. One of my (five) double kills was really confusing, but I wasn't about to complain. I was on fiyah. But I did go back and watch the saved film after. And found something other than my temporary mad skillz to attribute to the double kill.

Here's the setup. I'm firing on the red Spartan, and have just spotted the Elite following him. I know I probably won't drop them both, but I want to take at least one with me.

01-TheSetup.jpg

I drop the Spartan, but I used my last BR burst in the clip to take him down. I should point out that the Spartan is dropping two frag grenades. Poor guy never got a chance throw one.

02-Onedown.jpg

Now I'm stuck facing the Elite and need to reload. Before I can do so, he tosses a grenade.

03-EliteGrenade.jpg

I'm out of ammo, so all I can do is return the favor.

04-Mylittlepineappleoflovewantsakis.jpg

The Elite's grenade goes off first. I backed away from it but still take a bit of damage, as does he (whoops!).

05-Grenadenumberone.jpg

My grenade goes off next. I'd like to point out that it was a little more on target. :D

06-Grenadenumbertwo.jpg

Unfortunately, it was all for naught, as the Elite survives the blast and has now dropped my shields with his AR. I don't have enough time to reload and fire back. I'm a goner.

07-Helives.jpg

.......................

But what luck is this! A third grenade blast mysteriously blows the Elite out of his very large boots, and not a moment too soon.

08-GrenadenumberWHATTHEFUCK.jpg

So out of nowhere I'm left looking like a stud with a double kill on my hands while the Elite sails through the air bleeding and shrieking and filled with fail. Rawk.

09-Iamfilledwithwinyouarefilledwith.jpg

But where did that third grenade come from?

Remember this guy?

Onedownpart2.jpg

Again, note the two grenades he's dropping. I took him out at the apex of his leap, so he had a ways to fall, arms pinwheeling around. When he lands, his corpse does a nice thud and a little bounce. And on the way down from the bounce, this happens:

10-Lookcloser.jpg

Note the two grenades he's dropped to the left...and the THIRD grenade coming out of his hand. WTF?

The smoke trail clearly indicates a thrown, live grenade.

11-Thecorpsethrowsagrenade.jpg

And here's the complete picture, with his corpse tossing the grenade while I thrown mine. It was the Spartan's from-the-grave pineapple that killed his team mate. But since my grenade did some damage, I get credit for the double-kill.

12-Mysterygrenade.jpg

Second slot. Hmmm.

You really go through a lot to describe your amazing MP adventures. I have some amazing stories to tell, but I do not have the patience to take pictures or even save the clip. Is more like a "you had to be there" thing.

Wow, Ghaleon. Great post. That's wild, dude.

Also, saved films are amazing.

I enjoyed the sequence of pics Ghaleon. That was great. Also, I have an update about my 360. I may not be selling it after all. I already parted ways with my Wii and that was devastating enough. It feels good to hold onto one of my consoles. Now, if only the update and new maps would be released soon by bungie. Hurry hurry hurry.

I really like the look of this map. Nice work. Really well-polished as always.

I hardly get a chance to try out the real Foundry maps. When we're in a party big enough for 4v4, at least one guy doesn't have the DLC. I wish Bungie would pick some of the best Foundry maps and put them in a playlist. Any chance of that happening?

That's what should happen.

I, for some reason, don't like Foundry's normal layout. For 4-4 quick slayer, I guess it's workable. But if there's CTF or something, I much rather play a created map.

Well that sure was a laggy lil game! So laggy i wondered if it would show what i saw on the saved film. Sure enough, there i am getting killed by ghosts. But its not all doom and gloom. Lag happens, but fun can be found. I made a short film to show the joys of lag:

Bladed's funtimes account

It really needs to be set to some kind of music :lol

d/l'ed for later viewing.

Also, I'm pumped about the WWU tonight. More auto-update news? More DLC news? Halo Chronicles? Halo 4: Dark Planetoid Rising news?

Lots of stuff coming up on us quickly, so hopefully tonight's update will be good.

No update - Pentathlon today. Good one next week tho.

Oil? Bitch you cookin' ??

Well I guess that'll get the sand out of the vaginas of a lot of people. I think the melee system was fine, but whatevs.

my gamertag is scola916 if anyone wants to add me. I play mostly social slayer or skirmish so far. I am marginal as the last console FPS I really dug into this much was Goldeneye. Fun so far.

I finally pulled myself away from MP long enough over the past few days to try and finish SP on legendary, and to find the remaining skulls, which i've now done, yay :D

What are some good skull setups to play through SP with scoring on to try and get the achievements?

Also, the grunt bday party skull is great :lol

The letter Arby wrote in Episode 2.

Those new ones are great. This third one is probably the best, though.

I like how the guy in Last Resort is trying to snipe and then Master Chief steps in front of him bragging about his helmet. :lol

Also, good stuff about the melee change. Hopefully a playlist update is soon to follow (BTB RANKED!).
