I mean the two persons pictured are Stinkles and Lukems, and there are more entertaining pictures to be found at the Bungie Weekly Update.

Yeah, I've seen that. Someone jumped off the map in Construct and hid during an Oddball match. People who do that have problems. Likely didn't get enough love when they were little.Cap7ain Blood said:have any of you guys run into people jumping off the map in construct and sitting stuck at the bottom past gold lift trying to wait out the game in double team?

I remember the Ghost path you're talking about on Blood Gulch - but don't forget - there was no boost in Halo 1. : )Deputy Moonman said:I definitely remember doing that stuff. But you didn't have to blow the ghost up, to get it up there. There is a certain path you can take to ride up it in the ghost. It's been so long that I would have to go back and play it to remember exactly what you do.
You could also get on top of the map on the opposite end of Blood Gulch with the ghost, but that way is ten times harder and more of a luck thing. I remember having to boost up the cliff with a ghost, strafe sideways till you just cross a rock that juts out, and then boost even higher up a long a very specific line. I'd always try and take the sniper rifle up there, but it was more trouble than it was worth.
Do you remember getting on top of sidewinder? You could back the warthog into a specific area and use grenades and a rocket launcher to blast it up on top. Then you could strafe a ghost sideways into the same spot, dismount the ghost while it was still moving, and get sandwiched between the ghost and the cliffside, so that it would shoot you up over the top. Then with the warthog you could go drive around sidewinder.
I'm glad you brought that stuff up, Cocopjojo. I had forgotten.![]()

There's actually a stat to track cone kills. Bungie is awesome.
He was the first guy to have the Recon armour unlocked for him, I believe.FightyF said:Yeah I seen a vid that was a cone kill, I think it was a Bungie Favourite for a while.

Who?Insaniac said:some guy keeps insisting that Bungie is gonna release an armor pack over the summer or something including flaming hayabusa, recon and new armor. I call bullshit, however. your thoughts? Frankie/luke?
I remember that comment, but I don't really understand it, what he means with 'relate'. Or if I consider it a slight or not. The moment Halo clicked with me was when I crashed on that ring in the first game and you're on this weird earth like environment but yet it's alien and then a banshee flies over and you have to take cover.the disgruntled gamer said:I was listening to some old 1UP Yours episodes while studying for exams, and John was talking about how you could relate to environments in games like Bioshock and Resistance, but not in Halo 3. Does anyone really agree with this? I thought about it for a while, and I can't really relate to any Halo 3 environments as in: The city of Voi, or Tsavo Highway is familiar to me and I've been to places like that. However, within videogames I could relate to some of the levels very well.
I always enjoyed playing levels on Halo rings in H1 and H2. The environment, slightly alien yet familiar, with the symbolic ring visible in the sky, was always cool to me, but as I heard more and more about Halo 3 before release I was worried that another Halo level might not fit. However, when I was playing "The Ark", "The Covenant" and "Halo", I was really really glad to be back on a Halo, and I did feel like I could relate to my environment.
Thoughts?
I doubt that guy has any insider information. He's probably just making assumptions and considering that Bungie has said that it's likely that the Recon permutation will eventually be made available for everyone, I wouldn't doubt that his assumptions are correct as far as an "armour pack" being released. Whether or not it would be released this summer is debatable.Insaniac said:some guy keeps insisting that Bungie is gonna release an armor pack over the summer or something including flaming hayabusa, recon and new armor. You did a much better job than I did. The word I was looking for, is indeed 'compelling'. And as you said, the juxtaposition that takes place in the example you gave is a good illustration of that.GhaleonEB said:Some thoughts, rather rambling.
In general, I don't think about whether I can relate to the environment in a game. What compels me are the events taking place in that environment - the motivation for what I'm doing, the characters, the gameplay and mission designs. Essentially, the reason for that environment to exist. If the game can create a compelling experience within it, then I find myself absorbed into the world. What the game needs to provide are enough touchstones to the world I'm familiar with for me to know how to operate in the environment. After that, it is the job of the gameplay and story guys to absorb me there.
For example, this is my current wallpaper on my work computer:

I can't say I've seen anything like that before. In the Halo universe, I'm accustomed to giant constructions extending out into the distance ahead and above me, so It's not too alien in that context. But the events that take place there - a ginormous vehicular battle capped with a Scarab fight - are what make the scene compelling. I can't relate to it per se, but that is what sucks me into the moment. The environment actually creates a tranquil setting, with soft pastels, the gently moving waterfall and the open expanse. It's juxtaposed by the combat for a pretty unique experience in the Halo universe.
I can't say I can relate to that, but I find it compelling. And that's what is most important in an environment. I mean, I can't relate to the cyst-filled anus that is the Cortana level, or the battle around the huge crater in The Storm, but through the fiction I understand what is happening, and those settings feel approrprate to the story, and that is sufficient. The same applies to any game - Bioshock, Crackdown, Oblivion. There's a lot I can't relate to in those games, but they do a good job providing enough touchstones to reality and then fill in the gaps through their fiction and gameplay designs.

Hmmm, Frankie isn't usually this straight forward. Something fishy, I don't buy it. Reverse psychology.Stinkles said:Lies.
The question is, are the lies contained in what Stinkles quoted, or does Stinkles' post itself contain the lies? The answer, I believe, is both.Tieno said:Hmmm, Frankie isn't usually this straight forward. Something fishy, I don't buy it. Reverse psychology.

While I can understand his comparisson with Bioshock at some level, because that game is painted with very detailed brushstrokes, so there's a lot to latch on to...his example of Resistance is weird. The english towns in Resistance are very dead and boring. It's at its best when the weird chimeran architecture starts cropping up and the game becomes more alien.

Kuroyume said:01. It has been coming up way too much in LW the past few days. I thought LW was supposed to be all about variety. This is boring. Nades and BR... Yay...
02. BRs in Guardian? Epitaph? Seriously?
03. BRs are fine enough in the regular game type. If you want one then go ahead and pick one up. I don't see why it's necessary to have game types built around this thing. It's as dumb as Shotty Snipers, but only slightly more fun...

I'd love to play some Griftball (or really, just about anything). I'm online starting around 8pm Pacific time most nights, usually in BTB or (*gasp*) team slayer. I'm down for pretty much anything these days.
