I bought the new maps even though I promised myself I wouldn't. I don't really regret it. Still, Matthew DEMANDS the following for the next set of maps:
Aerial combat based map.
Anti-Air Wraiths to complement said map.
Troop Transport Hogs.
Snow Hogs to work on the Sidewinder remake.
Sidewinder remake.

:D

Enjoying the maps so far, but I am finding that it's mostly 3-star generals (or whatever they're called) that're playing, making the games incredibly aggressive and unfun. We need more noobs in the DLC hopper!). Also, 12 players is a bit overkill, especially on Foundry and Stadoff (Rat's Nest is fun, looking forward to BTBing that). Objective gametypes like CTF and Assault are really hard with too many players piling in to a very small space.

Other than that though, great maps, enjoying them very much.

6v6 on Foundry is kinda a clusterfuck, although I'm sure it's a great Team Slayer map.

I also agree about the Generals, my Commander ass was getting kicked.

Bungie has listened! No more maulers on Construct! 4 maulers down to 2 on Narrows!

Maps are amazing! Standoff is perfect! Foundry feels so.. Halo! :D
AWWWW F**K!
Just as I was getting used to kill the BR jerks. Back to sucking I guess.

I just made a Dodgeball variant on Foundry and need some people to join a custom game.

Gamertag: FiveRing

Basically, its set up like this.

Each team is set up to one side of the facility. At the midpoint are...

- open windows in which you can throw grenades through but not travel through yourself.
- An open box in which you can lob through but not travel.
- mancannons that you can lob through as well as change grenade trajectory, but not travel through yourself.
- floating and constantly powered grav lifts that will trap a player in between, that will make him/her an easy target.
- Fast respawning plasma and spike grenades.

There is 200% gravity to simulate real life jumping heights, and make getting to the other side nigh impossible.

Shields are normal except they recharge at a 200% rate.

Opening and sole weapon is a plasma pistol so getting kills without use of grenades is near impossible.

You are limited to one life, but if your team gets a kill you can respawn.

Here is where it gets a little more interesting. Upon respawn a person will spawn in their respective inside "bases", with all the exits blocked off. They must get to a sender node that will send them to a large containment box. The box is a large open box placed lengthwise, and normal players would be trapped in it.

The catch is, for a duration of 30 seconds respawned players have maximum speed, and low gravity, which will alllow them to leave the container box and come back into play. (Opportunities for in-play players to grief respawning players, as well as respawners to grief respawners are possible and encouraged).

I have a lot more to say about it but to avoid an even longer wall of text, I think it has some potential, despite how wacky it may look, and it almost forces rules on players and doesnt require in honor code.

/edit maybe this should be in the Online matchup forum, I just don't know if its frequented all that much.

Me and a couple buddies are trying to make a Warlock style map on Foundry. Its not as easy as you'd think. Cant quite get the proportions right! Its really frustrating but a lot of fun! I'll post picks if we ever get it sorted.

wait, holy shit

you think you can customize foundry to remake foundation for those 4vs4vs4vs4 1 flag games?

it went from "wait for the maps to become free" to "INSTABUY"

Does this only apply to matchmaking? Will the default weapon placements on custom games ever change?

Yeah, I checked those maps in CG and Forge, but the Maulers were still in their original spots and quantities. So then I thought "Hmm, I guess it's a MM change for now", but when I played Team BRs on Construct, the Maulers were still there. :(

Ive played MM on Narrows (vanilla and BR start) and there was only 1 Mauler at each end. Didnt get a chance to try Construct. Played BR's on Guardian and there were none that i saw! Not sure if they/it was in a different place or just taken off the map.

rat's nest has 4 maulers I think, two piles of two *rolleyes*

And yeah the DLC listing has tons of high badge people in, so far my team has won about 2 matches out of 10 because i'm always pared with idiots.

*edit* is MM updated now then? I shall check it out.

Vanilla :lol

Anyways, well thanks for confirming it. I suppose I'm going to enjoy Narrows now! (Now about that Rocket Launcher..)

None on Guardian? Thank the heavens.

Dont quote me on the Guardian thing (bit late i suppose) but i didnt see one the whole match.

As for high badges, i didnt lose my first eight or nine games on the DLC hopper but then there were mainly only Brits on at the time. Americaland came to join in the fun and it wasnt such a cakewalk. Still, ive enjoyed my 1st foray into the maps.

TGS will move to them sometime. I hope.

Sorry about last time. Believe it or not, I had a fucking power outage that lasted more than just a couple of minutes. I guess that was God's way of telling me to go to sleep. :lol

But yep. Good times be ahead.

IF I'M STILL ON THE TEAM, SPUD. BRB GONNA GO CUT MYSELF.

The new maps are awesome! Foundry is really cool, it's really small and in 6vs6 match it's total chaos. :lol

Rat's Nest is really good, it can get pretty chaotic when everyone converge in the center of the map. And there's a nice view too.

I've only played one game on Standoff (Assault) so I won't comment on it except to say how gorgeous it look. The skybox is amazing, there's even plane flying in the sky. Also it's smaller than I thought it would be.

Worth the 800 points. :D

My favorite by far is Rat's Nest.. something about flying down the halls in a warthog while everyone tries to stop you is mega awesome

My take on the maps:

Standoff - really amazing. Instant classic. Would have been a good map for the Prowler, as the added passenger can't throw things off too much, given how quickly you can run between bases. Best of the pack for sure.

Rat's Nest - decent to good, I'm not really into big team battles. The ring around the outside is awkward in my personal opinion, as sometimes you and your enemies are running parallel laps and you won't see them for while do to limited visibility. Seems like a great map for neutral assault. Team slayer was awkward, though fighting in the middle area is really good. Love the battles that play out around the bridge area. Equipment makes this map far more interesting as its easy to come by.
EDIT:ALSO, would have been the map to finally break out the gauss hog. Given the line of sight on the map, I think people on foot would stand a pretty good chance against it, and I know alot of us love playing around in the Guass Hog. Maybe that can come in a future iteration of the map.

Foundry - can't really say. Terrible map for 6 vs 6. I think people are giving this map way too much credit in Heroic hopper. I haven't had a chance to play it with 2 vs 2 or 4 vs 4 yet. Requires a ton of jumping. Would have been a really fun map to run around with a hammer (and they cant say it would unbalance the map because the shotgun is on the map by default, and the shotgun owns the hammer any day of the week)... and why didnt this map have spike grenades on it!? It's got perfect level geometry for some spike grenade fun. I also dont like the two major spawn areas (the ones that are next to each other but walled off). A team that spawns in there is essentially cornered off the map, and it makes for a strange level entry point. Like I said, this map probably plays much better with less people, but as it stands I'm really hot and cold on it.

The updated MM is great now, less maulers and a few random BR starts. I use to hate the BR start in halo 2 because you would die in about 2 seconds or 4-5 bursts, but with the fixed BR in halo 3 it makes good game.

Also, get oddball out of fucking lone wolves.

Like all the maps but Foundry 6 v 6 needs to be taken off the playlist. It just doesn't work.

But foundry is a sick forge map me and my friend are working on a very promising CTF versioN. Gigantic two story wall that you can go inside of splits the map, symmetrical in the left of one side you enter the bottom floor while the right you enter the high area. the two floors are seperated by fence so you can shoot ppl above and below you. i'll let gaf in once i finish the two bases.

awesome maps! i love all of them for different reasons, but i agree, foundry just doesnt work with 6 on 6. 4 on 4 or even 2 on 2 would be great. i'm sure in the actual matchmaking thats primarily how it will be used, and i cant wait to see the custome forge variants. i hope bungie makes more dlc content like this map (almost fully customizable)

i just teased the forge rim a little on standoff- added in snipers, man cannons, and some special win sauce- can't wait to try it out

I have a newfound appreciation for folks who can create elaborate Forge arrangements in Foundry. I spent two hours tinkering and was able to construct a rudimentary arrangement of tunnels, ladders and ramps - covering less than half the map. It was about 1/8 what I was planning to do tonight. It was my first real time in Forge, and I'm finding a bit of a learning curve when placing objects. I must have spent ten minutes trying to put down a couple hollow double cargo containers at a right angle. I've kind of given up for now since the map design I had in mind won't work with the objects at hand, but it's fun to tinker with.

Good set of "blocks" to play with. I put one of every object down in three long rows in the back of the map for relative scale when selecting objects to build with.

My only disappointments in the Foundry Forge palette: no missile pod (I really wanted that on this map for some reason) and the shield doors cannot be placed horizontally. I was going to put them down spanning the gap between stacked cargo containers as a false ceiling, and a bridge across the middle. A player on the bridge would have to jump down into order to fire down on the guys below, and a gravity lift was going to be at the bottom to vault up through it. Unfortunately, the shield doors just fall through other objects when placed on their side. If anyone can find a way to do that let me know, I think it would be a cool dynamic - looking down at someone you can't shoot at without engaging.

I spent so much time in Forge I didn't even get around to matchmaking on the maps. Which is why I'm staying up to late now. *goes to play*

wow what an amazing spawn, was playing on Foundry and died like you do, game respawns me right in front of my team mate and an enemy shooting it out, the screenshot below is the very first frame when I respawned.

How the hell does the game give out respawns like this? in a team game what is wrong with making a respawn on the other side of the map in a semi clear area?

Just watched Journey's End. I didn't see or learn anything new, but it reawakened my love for the trilogy. Awesome franchise, Bungie, please don't run it into the ground.

Wow, that Wizard/Warlock remake is so much cooler than mine its not even funny lol. Im not gonna post any pics from mine til its"fixed". Also, can anyone think of another map that has pretty simple geometry that could be remade in Foundry? Id like to give it a go but cant think of anything else doable.

Hmm, nice right angles, fairly easy to replicate, good old fashioned fun...... that could work. Thanx Tieno, Hang Em High never even crossed my mind :D

The thing that really strikes me about all of Bungie's work in Halo 3 is the attention to all the small details. For instance, each base on Rat's Nest is painted to correspond to team color, but it's not done in some garish, obvious way, but actually looks like worn paint over concrete. And I still fail to see how anyone can say this game is anything but next gen. It's just so well done on so many levels. The realtime lighting (OMFG), the physics (lulz), the awesome tits (okay, there's no tits).

el la Impressiones (Espanyole):

Standoff is awesome. I don't know that there is another map in the Halo franchise that feels as good for team objective play. I'm normally not a huge fan of Neutral Assault, but it works really, really well on Standoff, at least in the early going. And I love the map without the sniper. There's a lot of really great cover and space topside that lets you flank and maneuver without having to worry about some asshat sitting way off on the very edge of the ridge playing Duck Hunt. Inside, there are some really tight quarters with plenty of entrances and exits that make it interesting to defend. And it looks amazing. Too bad you can't fire off a nuke. Bungle am fail at MAD.

I'm a little skeptical about Rat's Nest. The space is interesting enough, but the interior is a little confusing at first. There are a lot of little hallways and catwalks that afford multilayered assault and defense that remind me a little tiny bit of some of the play on Terminal, squashed down a bit. The outer track is interesting, but vehicle heavy, and in the few games I played I was spawned too many times either in the direct line of turret fire or almost inside the grill of a honking hog. With the hogs zipping around, I don't know if there is a safe place to be spawned save inside the bases. Fix your game, Bungle!

Foundry is tough to get a sense of in its default state. 6 on 6 Slayer is as frenzied as it gets. The map is very fast and very vertical, even though its really only three layers top to bottom. Lot's of interesting angles and lines of sight. There is a room in the far back corner that makes VIP a bitch. As offense, you have to round two corners to approach a team at the back of a hallway. It would have been nice to have more than one way in and out to make it a little less defensible. The spawns are a little strange as well and more than a few times, I would spawn along the far wall, turn and see one or two guys from the opposing squad over by the forklift in my direct line of fire. OMG, thanks for giving the sniper a gravity lift so he can get on top of the fucking level straight away, Bungle. Way to cut out the middle man!

I would say that of the three Standoff is the clear winner, but I'm going to reserve my judgment for a later date. Once the newness wears off and I've had some more playtime on each, I'm sure my opinion will change. And Foundry is a huge wildcard. I can't even imagine what the community is going to come up with on that bastard. Hell, day one we've got an amazingly faithful replica of Wizard and a somewhat suitable version of Midship. Played two slayer matches on Mage (yeah, that's what they call it. I would have went with Hogwarts) with a group of friends ("people" on know online and my ex-wife's little brother) last night and had an absolute blast. Really good stuff. Needler owns.

Overall, I'm happy to hand my Hamilton over to the Bungie crew (Bill Gates). You can really see the work they put into these spaces. Unlike other games (I won't name names), these aren't just carbon copies of single player levels with some walls slapped up to contain the play, but yet, they fit nicely into the game's universe.

Also: pistol, jaggies, 640p, and Gears of Space Acne.

Any1 want to play some CTF? just made a crazy map for it but only 2 friends online. gonna try for a 6 v 6. just add TheDrizzlerJ11 to friends list and ill inv. (won't be looking at thread so msg in game)
