Of course it will cost money.

I'm just hoping it will be prices sensibly.
I'm guessing it will be a similar arrangement for the maps as Gears and Halo 2 had. First couple are free, second batch is paid but becomes free ~3 months later. The other goodies - vehicle changes, title updates, etc - should be free (and probably required).

Team Hardcore is more popular than Big Lag Battle. Just because you hate MLG doesn't mean everyone else does.

All Bungie needs to do with a Team Hardcore playlist is copy MLG v.1 and update as MLG does.
:lol

Have you seen the amount of people playing BTB each night? It's one of the most popular playlists on Halo 3.

And I don't hate MLG. It's a different playstyle, nothing wrong with that. Bungie isn't going to cater to MLG like everyone thinks they will. Bungie needs to rank BTB before they add Hardcore in. Who knows, maybe we'll get lucky and they'll add a ranked BTB along with the HARDCORE (ala not MLG) playlist.

That would surprise me very much - the Bungie guys are going on vacation next week and I'd think at least some of them would want to stick around to monitor the DLC as it rolls out, watch for issues, etc. I'm guessing we'll see the maps and other changes (Luke outlined some changes coming to vehicles, for example) as well as details on the first title update, with a release the week they get back.

But I'd love to be wrong. :D
Err... that makes sense. But Wu can't be wrong!

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Have you seen the amount of players in BTB in the past month and a half? In the times I've played (which is usually around 10-11 PM est) there's always at least 50,000 people in it.

But yeah, not popular.

Team Hardcore wasn't very popular even in Halo 2.

i'm hearing 125 damage mod, 110 speed, and 90 shield are really good settings.

i think this is what mlg will use, dunno about map layouts or anything else though.

and yeh btb is more popular than hardcore, but thats understandable. btb is popular cause you can play with guests.

I loved Team Hardcore, I hated buttom combos, which is where you would find the overwhelming majority of people that would abuse them. With that gone, I'm there. :)

Or perhaps some people love huge maps and vehicle battles.

Wait, so DLC announcement on Monday? Any specifics or ideas as to what the changes to vehicles are going to be?

That's the assumption. Not necessarily correct, but it's likely. We'll probably see the first screens and maybe get a tentative release date and price plan. Maybe.

We know there is going to be some sort of news on monday, but we don't know what. Given that the description for the last update was 'the penultimate dlc tease' (penultimate basically means the one before the last) a lot of people think the news will have to be on the dlc. Of course it could be that there is at least one more tease coming before we find out...

I'm wondering if we might be getting more then one bit of news. Other possiblities include information on the PeterJackson project or the new IP they've been working on.

can someone explain why bungie added motion blur to a competitive shooter?

also myself and friends finally understand what 60FPS vs. 30FPS means after going from cod4 to halo3.

Have you seen the motion blur in PDZ?

:lol

I'm having a new problem with Halo 3. Maybe one of you can help.

I booted up the game for the first time in like 2 weeks and whenever I'm in a matchmaking game, I don't hear any other players and in the player list (when you hold Back) no speaker icons appear even though people were chatting right before the match started. If I plug my headset into the controller then the speaker icons show up and everything works as usual.

I turned off my Xbox for a while and booted up the game again except now I can hear my teammates but the player list still shows everyone has having no mics. WTF??

Is the Halo 3 DLC going to be free or will it cost points?

I think I may have to go out and get a points card this weekend.

>Halo 3 DLC going to be free
>Halo 3 DLC free
>DLC free
>free

sorry but :lol

btw this game needs a patch before any kind of DLC

mmm... maybe isn't only you
I played H3 first time in a LAN center and the first thing I noticed is that the motion blur that you see when you move the camera was too fast but it looked damn cool, now I own a a X360 and H3 but I can't see this effect in my setup :( ...weird maybe is my shitty TV (component 480i)

This file from Iris didn't make much sense. It was one of few things that went unexplained. Think this could be planet from the legendary ending? The smaller circle is where the light comes from...
Infestation.jpg

I know, I refuse to leave Iris alone.

Started campaign in legendary today. Much much better and fun than previous playthroughs. It took me an hour from beginning to end of sierra 117.

I suppose it gets much harder later on but right now i feel this is more like the equivalent to halo heroic instead of legendary. I dont find the enemies to be very agressive yet.

I´m happy though that the snipers are not the pain in the ass they were in halo2. They are tough but not infuriating.

Playing COD4 on Hardened and Veteran made me appreciate Halo 3 even more than I did before. IW should take a que from Bungie on how to make good encounters and how to make things challenging without frustrating. In addition, no timers in halo 3 = blessing. I played halo 3 legendary and heroic for at least 5 times already, and would continue to do so. Won't be doing that for cod4.

Holy shit, Bungie is so cool.

That kind of random awesome could NEVER happen in Super Mario Galaxy or Call of Duty 4.
They may, but this just highlights how great saved films are. I've become instantly spoiled by them, for reasons like this. Saved films need to become standard.

Hahaha, that's awesome. I think I'll pop on and play some Halo 3 tomorrow. Still need my Overkill, Mongoose Mowdown, and Maybe Next Time Buddy. And with 6-players in Lone Wolves now maybe I'll have some luck. And hopefully the news from Bungie will have me on a Halo high tomorrow:D I need some chaotic Halo fun with CoD4 on Veteran burning my brain cells.

So what's the general consensus on when this "big news" will hit? In the past, they've put up stuff like that at midnight central. That'd be 3 a.m. eastern. Should I wait up? Or will it not go up until tomorrow afternoon like a normal b.net article?

kinda depends on what the news is. I'm thinking noon eastern (or maybe pacific) would be a likely time. but 5-6pm pacific is usually when a lot of their stories are posted (particularly weekly updates.)

well apparently you cant notice motion blur on sdtvs. and yeh i have an lcd and its very obvious when compared to Halo 2 or any other fps i have played recently.

also, subtle or not, i dont understand why they add it. how does it benefit gameplay?

You could not be more right! COD4 on any other difficulty other than normal is a joke. It's definitely not fun, anyway. I'm still stuck in the epilogue on veteran's difficulty. The timer is the most frustrating thing, ever.

I'm hoping for the morning. If they announce something about DLC, Microsoft will be sending out PR to go along side it detailing what's coming as well. That will need to be out early for the news cycles to pick it up. I'm not staying up late, but I'd love for an early morning surprise.

I would guess afternoon.

With the Marty Podcast...PLEASE.

“Halo 3” Evolves as Heroic Map Pack Explodes onto Marketplace in December

Plus, this Week “Undertow” Dives onto Xbox LIVE Arcade and a Thanksgiving Sale comes to MSN Games this Wednesday

Attention Spartans!

The internationally award-winning “Halo 3” multiplayer experience is about to get even better. After launching to incredible acclaim and fanaticism, “Halo 3” players will be able to enjoy three all new multiplayer maps on Dec. 11 as part of the Heroic Map Pack, the first in a series of downloadable content from Bungie Studios to come via Xbox LIVE.

Available for 800 Microsoft Points exclusively on Xbox LIVE Marketplace, each map presents a totally different play style. Standoff’s symmetrical valley, with its entrenched bases and fields of boulders is ideal for mid-sized objective and Slayer game types, while Rat’s Nest’s vast, labyrinthine passages bring something new to the “Halo” multiplayer experience: an indoor vehicle paradise, strongly influenced by the Campaign mode, ideal for big team battles. Finally, Foundry is the ultimate Forge map – players can edit every single object in this voluminous industrial warehouse, place stairways, walls, bridges and tunnels to create an entirely new play space and build almost any kind of map they can think of.

All three maps will become available for free download via Xbox LIVE Marketplace in Spring 2008, just prior to the next wave of all new “Halo 3” multiplayer maps.

As if the legions of "Halo 3" players needed more reasons to stay logged on and fragging, the Forge also allows players to edit and customize all three maps, keeping “Halo 3’s” multiplayer experience fresh, exciting and evolving. In addition, ongoing updates to “Halo 3’s” matchmaking playlists ensure that ranked and social gameplay remains dynamic and competitive.

Wow. After about a week of straight TF2 playing, I went back to good ol' Halo to find that I was horrible at it. :lol

As for the maps, 800 points is a bit steep, but if the maps turn out to be good I'll probably be picking them up.

Don't want to spend 800, but not sure if I can wait that long...

Descisions!

800 pts is steep for 3 maps. 4 would have made it tolerable.

I'll wait until I find out how this is incorporated into matchmaking before deciding on when I will purchase/download.

$10 for three maps is asking a bit too much.

hm

That's a little disappointing. This will somewhat fracture the group I'm playing with right now.

I'll go for the new maps. It'll be a nice compliment to the solo Legendary run through I'm going to start in late December. Gone through Legendary with four people at launch, three people about a week after, Heroic with two just a few weeks ago, then got busy with school... Mass Effect will bring me into late December and I'll get right back into Halo again.

Ah, Halo 3, Mass Effect, COD4, Assassin's Creed... gaming bliss!

I decided I'd go back and beat the Campaign mode on Heroic, and did so over the past couple days. Heroic was just about right for my skills, I think, as most sections didn't require replaying over and over. Cortana, however, was the one glaring exception. I fucking hate that mission with passion, especially the corridor of death that's right after the flame thrower. Goddamn. Even thinking about soloing that on Legendary makes my ass pucker.

I'm replaying halo on legendary no skulls right now because I had to make a new gamertag, I've done near all the game on legendary before now but it was via co-op, this time i'm walking alone!

Great fun.

Theres areas where I may get stuck at for like 20 minutes but all those retries feel so good once you work out a good method like overcharge pistol the wraith or manage to throw a tripmine 40 foot into a pack of brutes behind a wall.

So I'm thinking about writing an article on Halo 3's melee system to clarify exactly what's happening, why, the reasoning, and what the results are. More to come. Vacations are great.

I started playing legendary single recently too (played coop and was much easier than i expected). Sierra 117 was fun and a bit challenging but it was yesterday in Crows´s nest with the first brute pack near the control room where i had the most fun yet and kinda made me remember and feel the legendary rush from the first halo.

I loved the space of the encounter, the design of the scenery a lot this time being so narrow, with few places to cover and not all of them secure, like the truck trailer exposing your feet, and at the sametime giving you different approach routes and forcing you to keep moving allmost all the time. And even if i didnt try it, i loved the freedom to use the gravity lift and take the combat upstairs ( something also appreciated in the barracks section ).

The ending fight
near the bomb
wasnt that fun specially because of the brute chieftain using fuel rod gun spoiled all the fun forcing you to cover all the time.
