Well I'm 2 achievements away from maxing them out. Not by any attempt on my part to "boost" by playing in some chinese lobby, but simply because 50% of the Lone Wolves games I was in tonight were full of people seeking the achievements.

In fact, I was the only guy who really wanted to just play. I didn't want to be the one dickhead who kept preying on everyone as they gathered together to "overkill" eachother, so I went along with it and ended up nabbing the overkill, lazer, and triple kill achievements.

I really hope this blows over soon. Its fucking up my K/D ratio.

My next objective is to finish the first level with ALL skulls turned on. I've gone through the whole game with 5 of em on (3 gold, 2 silver) and am ready to put Bungie's challenge to the test. I think I can do it. Wish me luck, GAF.

:D

So I just got MVP. That's a real Achievement for me (some of you have seem me play). The story behind it is what's worth telling. If you recall on page 140, I posted the picture of my ladyfriend with the signs. She's a Halo fan, and sent me an invite tonight. It was Team Doubles which we were both rank 1 at. She's a Sargent grade 2, but we kept getting paired up with people higher than us. We would be talking the whole time, and dudes would keep asking "Are you a girl?" and she would respond yes. They would carry conversations with her, and go really easy on her. I would follow along with my shotgun, but my shotgun shells would follow along much faster. After they realized that I was trying to kill them, They would go after me. Good thing I had a teammate that was at a decent rank.

Protip: play with girls.

Spawns are soooooo terrible right now, it's by far the number one complaint in every lobby. It's REALLY bad in High Ground though, mainly with people spawning behind you. I've been IN the water and had the enemy spawn right next to me. I can already tell I'm hitting the point at which I'm not going to be able to advance any further because the spawns are so fucked up. We lost 3 of our last 5 games due to it, it was tied/near tied at the end and bullshit would happen. In the Pit I had three enemies spawn around me in a triangle formation -_-.

While I'm not protesting the sometimes questionable nature of spawns on High Ground, nor undermine your valid complaint--there certainly are some annoying situations with spawning on that map--you'd think if you were readily aware of the possibility that guys may spawn at the beach behind or around you, while you're at the beach--that maybe, just maybe, you wouldn't head out into the water or hang out down by the rocks too long with the Long Rifle.

Our theory was that if two of us hung allll the way back they wouldn't spawn there. I was all the way back as far as it would let me in the water, and then a teammate was up on the rock ledge to the left almost as far back as he could, and they still spawned in the water. What often happens is that if I spawn on the beach or in the tree area on the left, if I try to get up to the base they wind up spawning behind us and killing us anyway, hence our theory to try to stay back at the edge of the level. It's largely an issue right now because 90% of the time we get shotty snipers, and obviously if people are spawning at the beach behind you with long rifles, it's much more game breaking then them spawning behind you with assault rifles since if you're in a little ways ahead you have a fair chance to either break away towards the base or meet them on fairly equal ground. High Ground is the main map where spawns are just totally broken. They're also pretty damn bad on the Pit and Isolation. Other maps aren't that bad at all, I'm guessing that something to do with the fairly medium-size maps the game has difficulty finding "fair" places to spawn people; it seems to place way too much priority on spawning you near teammates, regardless of the situation. One of the last games I played tonight was shotty snipers (sigh) on Narrows, and we were having teammates spawn right in front of us as we were sniping, two of us actually killed teammates with headshots as they spawned right in front of us. That's happened many times before as well, but that again seems to a be a proxy spawn issue.

The spawns annoy me the most in VIP.

The game assigns me as VIP and spawns me right next to the entire enemy team and nowhere near ANY of teammates (who were all safe on the opposite side of the map at the beach/sea wall). Six people all going after me, and all I have to defend myself with is a fucking shitty pistol. This happened several times...

I guess this is done on purpose or something to keep games more intense and close and prevent camping, but it should always try to spawn you near ONE teammate at least.

Hasn't been quite as big a deal for me, but I have had a few complaints. Today I spawned right into BR fire on The Pit. Some other situations with opponents spawning right next to me and such. Not very pleasant.

guys! I think I know the planet mc floats to at the end (LEGENDARY)!!!

THE HOMEWORLD OF THE FLOOD!
I would be very surprised if that was true. There are three things that make me believe this:

1) The planet was plastered with what look liked forerunner symbols.

2) The Flood don't strike me as the type of species that would make cities/structures that we saw hinted at on the planet, they were to geometrical and not "natural."

3) The ARG hinted at The Flood being extragalactic in origin, so Master Chief would have to been floating in space for a LONG time to get to the next closet galaxy to our own (assuming he started his journey at our galactic edge).

WOW @ Microsoft Mexico... I just got back from Sam's Club and they're selling the game (plain regular $60 dollar "edition"] for the equivalent of $50 ($550 pesos)... it's even cheaper than USA... I really can't freaking BELIEVE it...

So, skill up broken for anyone else? I've won eight games in a row and haven't moved off of skill 30 in team slayer. I'm really gonna be pissed if these games are wasted. That's a pretty incredible win streak at this level :/ I could be 36 or better if they were counting (but oddly, exp is still going up, and NO, it doesn't slow down that much after 30 - none of the 20s in my parts are leveling up either).

Urgh, I'm having trouble getting that Maybe Next Time Buddy achievement. (board same vehicle after being boarded). Any tips? I die every time. ;_;

From my understanding, if you're playing scrubs EXP wise then you won't level up as quickly, think your party makeup factors in as well.

Leveling up isn't a linear experience. You're not going to advance at the same rate through different ranks. Not everyone is going to level up to 50, no matter how much people play, their rankings are going to even out over time as your skill is obsessed by incredibly complicated formulas. A couple Friday's ago, Ramirez, Eric WK, Duderon and I won 18 games in a row in the mid-20s-30s mixed party in TS and went up something like 2 ranks.

EXP is going to always go up, when you meet winning conditions, your rank doesn't operate the same way. Rank is ultimately the byproduct of quality assessments of your skill, your opponents' skill and how they relate, then that information collects players of similar ranks and collides them, eventually, assuming the system is working, you'll be playing folks around your skill level. But you might not necessarily be a 50. In fact, it's incredibly likely that you won't be -- you, being the average reader of this post, you could be OGRE 2 for all I know, MAYH

Nah.

I think that the "Planet" that we saw at the end of the Legendary ending is the "Sphere" that is talked about in the Terminals. The Forerunner transmissions explaining the last battle against Mendicant Bias/Gravemind before the Halo Array initially fires speak of their Defensive Sphere. I think that is what we're looking at.

well i better get these ffa acheivements fast, or I'll level up to the point where no one wants to try them, or i won't be able to get an overkill

to everyone who is saying that all these people just want to do acheivements- what levels were they?

EXP is going to always go up, when you meeting winning conditions your rank isn't. Rank is ultimately the gauge of how "good" the system believes you are, EXP is the display of how much you've played.

Yes, and winning quite a few matches in a row can't level someone from level 20 to 21? Not buying it. We got several steaktaculars in the process.

I played with the exact same people, yesterday, and went up 6 ranks in 5 games - and we were actually performing more poorly. Could you please elucidate the nature of these "winning conditions" so I know how to play better? I mean, I'd just like it to make a semblance of sense. It doesn't right now.

Edit: Now that I think about it, I did party up last night, but it broke up and I played on solo. Went on a nice winning streak while not in a party and THAT is when my rank shot up insanely high (I've been doing it solo most of the time). So, key to ranking up fast = solo. At least as far as it seems to me.

Also, and not to pile on, but if you are in a party of 3 people... IT'S NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE to get into ranked 4 v 4 Team Slayer/Team Objective games. It just DOES NOT happen. I guess the search criteria is different, or something, but when there are 270k people playing TS... I really can't see a justification for not finding TWO MORE PEOPLE :p.

I've been hearing people ask almost everygame in the 15-20 range.

At least one or two people will answer and I always keep my mouth shut.

The game starts and I start to slaughter. I love it.

EXP-award winning conditions are things like top X in a game, in Team Slayer it'd be finishing on the winning side, the conditions are different for something like Lone Wolves. There are so many factors in why you may have slow movement from 20 to 21, among them could be you're playing in a mixed party against mixed parties, i.e. you have players higher or lower than your rank by a reasonable margin. That's designed to cut things like boosting "new players" up to your rank quicker.

I'm sorry you're finding the system frustrating. There will come a point for players on a playlist where "ranking up" is going to be considerably tougher.

But what you're saying doesn't jive with the reality of how I'm performing. I played MUCH BETTER tonight, and didn't move ANYWHERE. Several MVPs, never negative, a few 2:1 K/Ds, and I got NOTHING. Last night, solo, I was rarely the best person on the team, and had a few slight negatives and my skill flew up. This screams "borked" to me.

Oh, and it wasn't just me... the same guys that had no problem ranking up last night got NOTHING either. It would literally be hard to play better than we did in some matches. 50 to 20 is a pretty damn big beatdown in TS. These guys we were player were of equivalent rank in TS and many were 40-50 in other modes. It's not like we were beating up a bunch of chumps. I certainly wasn't playing "world beaters" last night either.

So whatever, I guess AT SOME POINT it will move. Probably tomorrow when I play solo, do horrible and eek out wins, and get 2 skill ups per win...

The Maginot Sphere almost certainly isn't a literal physical sphere - it's just the last line of defences around the core worlds (except with space being 3d and the enemy attacking from all sides, it has to be a sphere, not a line), by analogy to the famously-ineffective Maginot Line of WWII in France (which was a line of bunkers and other fortifications, tank obstacles, artillery positions, machine gun posts, etc, along the borders between France and Germany and Italy). Most likely a collection of heavily fortified worlds, listening posts, automated defences, and towards the end, razed worlds that wouldn't support further offenses by the Flood (they speak of cutting firebreaks, which i would take to mean glassing worlds between the core worlds and Flood space, so they can't act as staging posts).

You can double shot with the BR using button combos. :\ Check the video of the game you lost and see if you can notice it at all.

Oh Xbox Live...

Congrats! It was one I was wringing my hands over too, I think I got it by being mr Flag Grabber... I want to go and check my stats to see but I'm pretty sure they don't track that shiz.

Also, last night was the worst Halo 3 night ever, we kept getting our asses kicked all over the place, the one on High Ground being the worst as I kept spawning next to pairs of bad guys and having new holes in my body made. I was sad.

Sai, where you been man? We need to tear assholes too!

Re: the rank-up "problem" someone was having last page -

I've actually found the OPPOSITE to be true. I was playing lone wolves yesterday really horribly. I dunno what my problem was, by I finished like 5th twice, third twice, and fourth once. And yet I STILL went from a 20 to a 21 that day.

I specifically remember the game I ranked up - I finished fourth, and was still bumped up.

In general I've found Halo 3's rankings to be more forgiving than Halo 2's. In 2, if you lost a game, there was a good chance you were gonna be bumped down. Lose two, and it was almost a certainty. In 3 I've gone on some big losing streaks, but I always just seem to drop 1 level at most.

I dunno if this is true or not, but a guy in the pregame lobby was saying that in Lone Wolves, if a higher-ranked player finishes ahead of you, it doesn't hurt your ranking. So if you were a 19 and played four 20s and finished last over and over, you'd never de-level. Dunno if this is true or not.

That does sound pretty suspect, but hopefully they have NOT made a comeback in H3.
