Well after 300 games played is it just me or was the map selection in Halo 2 a little more fun?

I miss maps like headlong or midship

Yup, Halo 2 had better designed multiplayer maps IMO. They instantly clicked and were intricately designed and (for the most part) worked great on multiple game-types. Too many of Halo 3 maps seem only good for Slayer and Free for All - they don't work very well in objective games like CTF.

I dislike Construct, Epitaph, and Narrows. Indifferent on Isolation and Guardian. Half of the maps are good and the other half are mediocre IMO. I'm hoping for a remake of Headlong and Terminal.

I kind of want to agree, but then I don't. I don't know if the problem is that some of the maps suck or if it is more that there are only a few maps to play in each playlist. I'm so tired of playing Guardian. Though strangely enough, I didn't see one epitaph game today. I think they just need to put more maps into the game and everything will be better. That or increase the number of people in games and put the bigger maps into the play list as well.

As it stands now, my favorite map would probably be Last Resort. I enjoy High Ground and The Pit, too.

HELP ME OH MIGHTY GAF
I'm not sure what you're trying to do. Are you just wanting to play matchmaking or are you looking for custom games? I don't know much about the custom games because I never play them. If all you want to do is play matchmaking with random people, then select matchmaking from the starting menu, pick the game type you want to play, and then there should be a "start matchmaking" option. It may take a few minutes, but it will eventually throw you into a game. And it will say at the top that it is searching for a game for you.

My stats on bungie.net don't seem to ever update.. what gives?

Also, Shotty Sniper mode is fun, screw the haters.
My campaign stats haven't been updated for a while, so I think the site is dealing with another backlog.

I'm down for anything, but I don't think any of you Fine Young Cannibals have me as friends on Live.

LET'S DO THIS!

I was thinking about the map selection yesterday. For me, Big Team Battle especially was tons better in Halo 2. Terminal, Waterworks and even Coagulation that bored me to death gave better games. One aspect I miss in particular are the wraiths in MP, that was a major part of objective gametypes in BTB.

I'm super impressed at the amount of lagless games I've had, even the shotgun works for me. Hopefully we can get 16 player BTB games eventually and keep the same performance, it needs to be ranked, too.

Yeah most of the maps feel like they were designed with Team Doubles in mind (Construct, Epitaph, Guardian, Isolation). The lack of Big Team Battle maps is pretty curious too. Could Bungie not get the game running respectably w/ 16 players? And is that why BTB has been left out of ranked matches?

From what I can tell, there are only two new BTB-friendly maps in the playlist - Valhalla and Sandtrap. BTB is all I ever played in Halo 2 so this comes as a pretty big disappointment. Doubles matches on the same maps over and over is starting to get old. :(

Agreed, there has been literally no lag in any of my games and I've played loads. Also BTB ranked needs to happen soon!

While we're on the subject of maps I tend to agree with whats been already said, that these maps just arn't as replayable. In fairness they are so much better designed than the ones from Halo 2, but at the moment I just can't get into maps like Epitah & Contsruct.

Less gabbing, more playing. Seriously, no one in my list is online right now. "/

The same has been happening to me recently.

And it's not that we hate Shotty Snipers, what we hate is the frequency that it appears.

People should try this gametype in custom games: Slayer Rockets on pit with Player gravity on 50%. Its pretty fun, only problem is when you hit the roof you slow in the air. Though its not as good as midship with Brute Shots and shotguns in Halo 2.

Anyone disappointed with the Brute Shot in Halo 3 i really like bouncing the shots of the walls and into players?

Finally beat it, good ending. I KNEW I heard Nathan Fillion's voice in the game. The credits showed they also had Adam Baldwin and Alan Tudyk. Sweet :lol

Anyone have a saved film showing how to get to the Jason Jones easter egg on Halo? I've seen videos on Youtube, but the quality is horrible. I suck with grenade jumping.

:lol Didnt think of that !

I guess camping losers are here to stay, people even camp on snowbound :lol Its just a game people, you arent going to get killed in real life :D

FFA on snowbound is terrible, it almost always ends up being people taking turns camping with the shotgun in the cave. The snowfields are barren the whole time.

Then yea there's the grav lift camping for easy assasinations

And what I hate most, which really has nothing to do with the maps, is when people play every gametype like it's slayer. Don't go for oddballs, don't go for flags, don't try to be king of the hill, etc. just obsessed with increasing their k/d ratio

Overall I think the maps are decent. I hate Construct and think Epitaph is pretty lame, but the rest are pretty good. And of course there are the inevitable map packs

Since the Beta I figured Snowbound was designed for camping, with those ridiculous shield doors combined with the motion tracker.

One of the things I liked about the Halo 2 maps is that there was almost always a way to kind of "smoke out" a camper. If someone was hiding in a room with a shotgun and you knew he was there, you could unload grenades and either kill him or force him to move.

The shield doors pretty much kill that aspect.

I agree somewhat, but there are always at least three way into the bases on Snowbound and it's pretty easy to flush campers out with nades if you know they are down there. Power Drain does the trick too. Usually, if I see a guy camping base with the shotty, I steer clear or go around. There's almost always more action up top anyway, in my experience.

It's pretty annoying. King of the Hill and Oddball are fun game-types that have the potential to be really intense and very close matches. But a single person always racks up all the time in the hill or with the ball while everyone else is busy killing each other on the far other side of the map like idiots.

It's especially bad in Oddball. The ball carrier just camps right next to a shield door and waits for enemies to pass through (who get meleed and killed instantly). If someone comes from behind the ball carrier just steps one foot over to the other side of the shield door and repeats. Easy win.

I guess that's why everyone vetoes Oddball on Snowbound.

I'm not sure whether the video includes a tut or not, but I hope it's helpful.

I KNEW something was up there, I just KNEW it... when I was there I could tell something was up there, but I was playing solo at the time, and wasn't able to get up there, and never got to come back with other people, damn...

And here is a collection of Halo 3 tricks and stuff I stumbled across: it's called Tricky Trick 5, just found it on the High Impact Halo forums - gonna check to see if the previous 4 have to do with Halo 3 as well...

Agreed. Seems like only IW finally got why Achievements for MP games are stupid, so they left them out of COD4.

Honestly, does anyone here gasp in amazement when one of their friends has a lone wolf achievement that you don't? The medal system tracking is more in-depth and rewarding then getting 5 gamerscore points for running someone over in a mongoose. Not that it even matters anymore that you do get some of the harder ones since so many people are just boosting now.

Totally agree.

The only MP achievements they should have included are more of the ranking ones. And I would probably be OK with some for like 500 kills, 1000 kills, and 5000 kills. But, that's it.

The thing that really disappoints me about the achievements are the campaing ones. They should have differentiated between beating the level/game on Co-op vs. by yourself. Especially for the Legendary Campaign achivement. Going into the game, I was really looking at the Legendary Campaign as a badge of honor. But, as it is, its almost meaningless since there's no way to tell if someone did it by themself. :(

The Legendary achievement can be attained by both single and co-op play? How about the legendary badge that you get next to your gamertag?

Hey, anyone notice last night around 1a.m. EST their were over a million players online? And right now there are over 700k! The highest I had ever seen it before last night was around 636k. This is insane.

Yea this morning at about 5~6 am (est) it was at 1.2 million... but after each match we looked at the numbers and they kept dropping pretty quickly. I guess people in the states finally went to sleep :lol

I noticed players that are up late are normally a little better then players during the day time. My theory is that the people willing to forgo sleep are more dedicated to the game.

Holy crap 'Halo' is a piece of piss on legendary, I was expecting constant death.

Yeah that would be super fun. But sure, turn on all the skulls and get busy dying.

So those 7th column symbols that appear next to your name when you link your gamertag to Bnet... why cant you see them next your friends names in the same party as yourself when they have linked to Bnet?

And you dont get a symbol next to your gamertag for beating legendary do you?

AngelofDeathMG asks,

Is there any way that we will ever be able to play as a grunt? Like a covenant playlist where you could choose to be brute, jackal, grunt, and your start equip based on rank? also, will any classical map be returning?

Nope. We're only remaking Chiron and we're doing, night time, daytime and dusk versions of it.

:lol

A dude on my friends list makes these Chironesque maps full of Escher-like relatavism. Some teleporters dump you off the map. Others might send you high above on some lone piece of geometry facing the wall. I used one to escape imminent death once and was teleported to a point about six feet to the left.

Playing is like staring into a kaleidescope of the universe held within a chrome sphere of insanity. The silver lid of the Universe is peeled back like a shining carapace to reveal quivering meat of pure horror.

I'm pretty sure the guy is on Soma.

Worked for me. Make sure they go into their profile options and check to show the symbol.

I would have to agree about the maps... There's some I really like (High Ground, Last Resort, Snowbound, The Pit), but the rest don't really strike me as being really great. Epitaph and Construct are both confusing, and Guardian isn't as good as Lockout :(

^Watch out, thedisgruntledgamer is going to put you on his ignore list.

And I like how, in CTF with touch return, you don't even have to touch the flag for it to return. You have to be near it :lol Also, I hope you're joking urk.

Talked to MS again about my Halo 3 DREs and they are having me send my system in for service again. This will be my third box, but at least I'll finally be able to play the campaign (hopefully).
