Ah! I finally managed to get past Tsavo Highway on legendary. I was (somewhat) cheap, but I did it. Ran towards the Wraith, plasma overcharge to stun it, jump on the wraith, shotgun + melee to the gunner brute, slap the wraith till the drivers out, board it and then cleared the rest of level with my wraith. All in all that level probably took me around 3 hours.

Awesome. I love seeing people take different solutions to that battle on Legendary. I had to save the Wraith for last because of how it was positioned, but I kept it for the rest of the level (I did most of the vehicle battle without it on Legendary). All told I spent a good 3 - 3.5 hours on that mission as well. The Storm wasn't nearly as hard, though the Hunters kicked my booty hard.

I'll try to find it but someone in this thread had the same scenario and they didn't get demoted.

Yeah, I saw that post too, I think. But the guy wasn't positive, so I didn't see it as definitive.

I guess I could test it myself, actually. I just hit 20 to become a captain - I'm sure one poor round would knock me back down to 19.

The *big* reason I ask is actually re: level 50. It would suuuuuck to have to maintain it. If I were good enough to hit 50, I'd never want to play that gametype again, for fear of losing my General status :lol :lol

But if you can hit 50 once and then breath easy, that would be much more reasonable.

The system goes by the highest skill level you achieved. Even if you do get demoted you don't slip down a rank.

That's not called being 'cheap,' that's called being a hero. :D

How far are you into the Campaign on Legendary, Ghaleon? Have you made it to
The Ark
yet?

Hmm. If we have all the achievements we should have all the armor sets right?

I am missing one set of shoulders on the Elite side. I have every other armor piece but this set of shoulders.

I'm hearing conflicting stories on how to get Marathon Man. Do you have to get the terminals on Normal, Heroic and Legendary? I also hear you have to get them in one sitting, is this true?

So, I'm starting to hate these matches where everyone just wants to cheat for achievements.

That said, me and my boss are playing Halo online at work in the Lone Wolves server. We get a bunch of people who just want to achievement whore on an Oddball match. With no headset, we can neither confirm or deny we will participate.

We spawn, grab the ball, hide for the first 40 seconds, then run around dodging fire and racial slurs for the last 10. 50-0-0-0-0.

I got them on Normal, and I definately didn't do it in one sitting. I got a few on my first playthrough and then went back to get the rest later. The confusion people are having is probably due to the fact that you have read everything. All the way the to end. If you don't do that for each one, then you won't get the achievement.

There was almost no other option but to charge for the wraith.
I was all in the back on top, where the first sniper rifle is. I hit a checkpoint and then they dropped my warthog. But there were so many brutes left (2 FRG Hero's no less), that they foused all their firepower on the dropships and the hogs they were dropping off. While they were focused on those ships, I was trecking on the right, getting passed them and waiting for the wraith to come to board it.

People are starting to do this on NA servers? Why don't they just go to the Asian server where everyone is doing this?

Don't believe its difficulty related but I thought the same sitting thing was in place too. Played with a friend from the start and same save, he got the Marathon Man achievement on the last terminal on Covenant. He said he got the terminal from Halo earlier so not sure about this one sitting thing.

So the stuff after everything corrupts as well?

I was thinking about the achievements that are only possible for ranked free for all matches and Bungie's logic is so flawed it's ridiculous.

Someone stated that Bungie's logic is that free for all is every man for himself, and an individual has to get the achievements on their own, so that's why the achievements are for ranked free for all.

However, it should have been on team games because in ranked free for all you can party with some friends and enter a game and they become enemies. Therefore, you can use them to cheat to get the achievements.

On a team game your party would be on the same team and therefore they couldn't help you get the achievements as easily. The most they could do is help you by softening up the enemies or giving you a particular weapon, such as a sword or splazer.

Very very stupid.

It's interesting how you got a completely different checkpoint, with guys spread out differently, than I did. Which in turn required a completely different approach. This is the kind of stuff that makes the game so replayable.

My thinking re: the achievements is that I'd rather get as high as I'm ever likely to get in Lone Wolves, and THEN mess with the achievements, allowing myself to de-level a little in the process.

If everyone goes for achievements in Oddball matches (as was just described), then it'll be easier for me to chalk up Lone Wolf victories that I normally wouldn't have ever been able to win against players of that skill.

I might even be able to hit 35-40 this way, which I could never do if everyone played legit. Once I've peaked, then I can just focus on the laser, mongoose, or whatever.

Are they really achievement whores if they are doing it solely for the armor?

I really want the armor and care less about the gamerscore. I've purposely lost Love Wolves matches just trying to get achievements so I stay in the lower ranks. Is it fun for you to win without a challenge?

I wish Bungie had just kep the achievements to single player.

You can't enter the playlist with friends. You can only enter by yourself.

You can't go into the Lone Wolves playlist with a party, only Rumble Pit on Social.

No, you can't. Party size is a max of 1 in lone wolves. You have to make fast friends if you want the whole group to whore achievements.

EDIT: beaten

I only found that vintage point when I was playing through legendary. Never bothered to look to the right when I first entered that area.
Anyway, you can see me in the back while all those brutes are focusing their fire on those dropships.

That part is crazy if you play with less than three people. I usually give my fuel rod to the marines when I take down the chieftain.

I still don't understand why you didn't clear the area from a distance. In my game, the Wraith wasn't a problem if I was hidden in the structure to the left of your screenshot. The brutes were, but the flying one are vulnerable to a headshot, and the chieftains are quickly dismissed with 2 well placed frag grenades.

Ahh, I feel stupid then. I'd only played social rumble pit with friends and thought lone wolves was the same but ranked.

So you have to make friends within a match.

Then there's really nothing else I can think of that they could have done to fix this, and I owe Bungie my apologies.

Yep, same here! :lol Though I did go back and finish the fight similar to the way that one guy did when he posted that big series of pictures.

Tsavo Highway on Legendary? Here's what I wrote about how I cleared it late last night:

siamesedreamer said:
Finally, finally, finally got past "that part" on Tsavo Highway. Here's how I did it:

- brought a covenant sniper rifle and the fuel rod gun from the previous area

- took out most of the initial brute wave with the covenant sniper and BR from the top of the bridge

- before the next wave came, I ran through the area to pick up fuel rod ammo and to get the human sniper rifle from the back building

- went back to the top of the bridge and sniped the armor off most of the brutes (and there's gotta be at least 20 of those fuckers)

- wittled them down with a BR and carbine

- went down to the concrete pipes to finish off the stragglers from a closer position

- disabled the wraith with a covenant pistol and then finished it off with the fuel rod

Wasn't as easy as I'm making it sound and it took me about an hour to do it. Lots of trial and error, patience, and a couple trips back to the previous area to pick up some BR ammo. Very satisfying though.

The key is disabling the wraith with the covenant pistol. In one of the following areas you get to face three of them. There's absolutely no way to get past them without the diabling method. I'm actually pissed that I totally forgot you're able to do that. It simplfies things soooo much.

Just got the best line of NPC dialogue yet. One of my marines was firing at a brute and I turned around and capped the Brute in a shot, taking the kill. The marine then turned to me and said:

"Hey, I was trying to get an achievement!"

:lol

Yeah, that's a completely different setup than I had.

http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p172/ghaleoneb/Halo/01-TheSituation.jpg

The Wraith moved up and blocked the path through, so I was limited to the over on the hills until I'd thinned the pack a bit more.

I could have, but that wouldn't have been fun. I play Legendary to overcome near-impossible odds to stand over the corpses and wreakage of my enemy, not to run like some green tin weenie. :p

So what are the different ways to take down Scarabs? I'm on like my fourth play through and I haven't found any other ways other than shooting the core.

I think that's the only way, but I'm not sure. The first Scarab fight is all about how you get to it.

I was sniping from this point (see pic below). While there sniping and moving around on the vintage point I was triggering the checkpoints too fast. Faster than I could clear the brutes, which caused them to pile up so by the end when the ships came to to drop the warthog, there were a shitload of brutes. I tried to clear them all a couple of times (mainly by trying to go to the other sniper rifle on the left, which drew a lot of firepower from all those brutes on me as they usually saw me), I managed once or twice to almost clear them all but then in the end the Wraith or some brute managed to kill me.
So the best and fastest option was to get to the wraith, by jumping of that bridge, going through those pipes, all while the brutes were fousing on destroying the dropships and the warthogs.

This was asked several pages back and there were a couple of us wondering, but we never got a definitive answer -

For all ranks lieutenant and higher you of course have the EXP requirement, but ALSO the skill rank requirement. My question is simple: Do you have to MAINTAIN that skill, or does is it just look for the highest skill you've ever hit?

Example: You have 105 EXP, and manage to hit skill 20 in Team Slayer. This promotes you up to Captain. If you go on a losing streak and drop to skill rank 19, does this demote you to Lieutenant, or do you remain a captain, because you did hit 20 at one point?

You do not demote. Also, only highest skill matters. If you make it to 50, then drop to one, you can still get General.

You've got to take out the core, that's the main objective. I think they meant there are lots of ways to get to the core.

Hmm. I actually took control of the missile turret and just spammed him till he dropped. And this was on Legendary no less. Very anti-climactic. I'm gonna play through again at some point to try something different.

I have a question.

Let's say I do the first five missions on Legendary co-op, then finish up the remaining four on my own (still on Legendary). Will I get the 125 points for beating campaign on Legendary? In other words, does a mix of co-op and solo still entitle me to the achievement?

Logic tells me yes but you never know.

Thanks in advance.
