Yeah, I figured Tsavo highway would be the place.

I actually got both a Wraith and a chopper to hit a mine, but neither were destroyed. I was playing on Legendary, so that may have had something to do with it not working.

Anybody have a quick and easy method for getting this achievement? Someplace in the campaign where its easy to do this?

Tsavo highway, after you defeat the jetpack brutes and the lone wraith you will encounter brutes on choppers. Bring a trip mine with you and get one of the choppers to chase you. Deploy mine. Boom.

Hehehe...seems I'm a bit slow typing today.

I just started from that rally point on Normal to zip through to that Chopper part. First Chopper didn't quite explode for me so I ran back to grab another mine and the second one was a direct hit. With so many of those damn Choppers on that part you should scoop up the achievement pretty quickly.

Only one class today! What's the number to get to lieutenant? God, this game is so addictive. The main menu is now my new dashboard! :D

Yeah, mine too. First time I changed the boot setting from 'dashboard' to 'disc.'

Oh and Officer is 70 exp and lvl 10 skill.

The problem with most of the Ranked FFA achievements is that it's a game of chance rather than skill. Of course *some* skill is involved, but it's pure luck if the opportunity presents itself. Further, as you win more games, the level of skill gets better, and the harder it is to get triple kills with Swords, or get Overkills, or splatter people etc.

Anyway, I'm glad I've got them all now; I don't have to play Lone Wolves again now, and can concentrate on team games which are much more fun.

Well it's gotten to the point where people in Lone Wolves are private chatting and working together - protecting each other when they have the ball, sharing hill time, etc.

So fucking lame.

I said the same thing on the last page. Guess b/c I'm "only" a 33 nobody listens to me as opposed to your 47 or w/e you are :/

Hah, I made that same change last night as well. Its been a long time since I had mine set to boot straight to disc.

Who wrote the script for the terminals? Was it Joe or Frankie? I also feel like I read somewhere that it was Damian Isla...

Anyway, it's badass. I did a terminals 'marathon' last night and they shed a lot of light on a really interesting story. Awesome writing too.

All this talk of achieveents and this was overlooked:

Flaming Ninjas!

This is apparently a permutation available only to Bungie Staff.

Do you have to play through the entire game to get the achievement for that, or do you just need through each of the last 4 levels in a sitting, or what?

You have to access all 7 terminals. Google it or something, dude.

Naw, it's 70 and 10. You can continue to rank up as a Gunnery Sergeant if you continue to get EXP without passing 10 in skill. Check my stats out as an example. I either need 150 EXP or a 10 in skill to move up, though the 150 EXP would be moving right on the chart.

oh ok, so that's how that works. So if I get to 70 exp I'll become an officer because my highest level ever was a 16 in team slayer. That's good to know. I'll have to go after that this weekend. Thanks.

Access them, and when they go Red, they are activated. Then go on until Fragment Ends

You can save and quit the level and it will register.

I'm still at the infamous fight in Tsavo Highway and I've got about a million brutes to fight and that annoying Wraith coming in. How do you take over a wraith? Do I use a plasma pistol overcharge to stun it and then try to get in it?

is there anyway to choose which one of your bungie.net photos appears on your profile page? or is it always default to whichever photo you took last?

edit:thanks tieno

In your Service Record Gallery you can flag a picture to be your glory shot. (Set as Tropy Shot), above the picture itself.

Yeah, but you should try to pick off the gunner from a distance with a BR, Sniper, or something first. A power drainer from one of the fallen Brutes might also help.

I was totally stuck at this bit, but I made my way back to the highway without dying, found a sniper rifle and a checkpoint, I took out most brutes from a distance, the rest were manageable

Does anyone know to what extent skill ranking is based on individual stats/performance within a team playlist? I was at a 6 last night in Team Slayer, and my team went 9-1. But I'm only an 8 now. Seems like I should have ranked up more than that. I'm a mediocre player trying to crack 10 so I can get to Lieutenant, and I thought that would've done it. Not a big deal - I'm just curious how it works.

RB to board, then you pummel it with B, if it's not too damaged the driver just falls out and you can jump in, I think if it was too damaged before you boarded then pummeling results in the destruction of the vehicle.

I never tried stunning it first though, I just ran straight at it with a little 'duck and weave'.

Plowed through the Storm on Legendary last night. My first time through on Heroic I missed the elevator that leads out to the platform overlooking the Scarab battle - I just took a leg out with a turret from under the Scarab. This time I drove launched my Ghost off the end of the ramp and onto the Scarab. That entire fight is like a giant apology for the Scarab in Halo 2, where there was one way to approach the fight. Turrets, rockets, elevator, ramps, AR-driven Scarab, ships fighting overhead, vehicles whizzing around. So. Awesome. :D

Also, new favorite combat dialog line: "Wow, the Brutes are more fun to fight than the Elites!" Just had so sneak that one in, Frank. :lol

(He's right.)

Here was my solution, but your particular situaion may be different.

Totally out of the blue, but...

I was thinking that the hybusa helmet would look much better if it color matched the armor color like all the other helmets do. I think next update there needs to be an additional hyabusa helmet to unlock that colors up normal instead of always remaining silver like the current one does.

And I want to see some new arm and leg perms too come DLC time. That would be totally baddass.

EDIT: Also, more randomness.. I recommend everyone hijack the gunner seat on the prowler! Coolest looking move in the game.

I just got out of a game in which we were asked to do achievements. We all agreed to do the sword and lazer. Well i got killed about 4 times letting everyone else get their achievements. I grabbed the Lazer and Sword for my go killed two people and as I lunged for the third this bastard started shooting everyone. So basically everyone else got the achievements but me. This is about the third time i have had this happen and I'm really pissed off atm!

The most achievement whore achievement of all. Get a job at Bungie just for the flaming skull head piece. Thats....just a crazy achievement you have to complete for that helm...

I love the NPC dialog lines. One of my favorite parts of Halo 3 single player

grunt: "he was my best friend!!!"
brute (upon getting stuck): "ITS STUUUUCK!!!" (boom)
marine: "haha owned"

I could say that it's your own fault for trying to cheat the system and get achievements that you should have to get on your own. But then again, I ended up doing that to get the damn laser one.

Nice image montage and story. When I played that portion through on Legendary, I used a trip mine to evade the Brutes (numbered in the 20-30's at least) as I moved beyond the valley, charged the Wraith, BR'd the turret, BR'd the sniper, dodged several mortars and then siezed the Wraith.

At which point I set fire to the Brutes in ways they had not yet imagined.

Once your giggling subsides, can anyone tell me how the heck he got the "fly-by" camera? I can't seem to get that to work when replaying saved films.

Been posted but always fun to watch. If you are watching a saved film just hit Y to detach the camera and you should be able to move around on your own.

::EDIT:: Too slow for Voc.....

Question for anyone that may be able to answer...

When I go to the "Select Mission" screen for campaign I notice something odd on the right hand side where you're shown the level (heroic / legendary) that you've completed the game on in both solo and co-op. On some of the levels I notice that the heroic / legendary indicators have an added shine to them which makes them different from the normal indicators.

For instance, on Sierra 117 and The Covenant I have the shine on my solo heroic indicator but not on legendary. On Crows Nest, Tsavo and Storm I have it on just the co-op legendary indicators. Some levels the shine is missing from both. I have all the skulls in the game collected and all the single player achievements.

So what's that shine all about?

This is the second time I've heard this mentioned, but I don't have this at all either - and I also have all of the Achievements and Skulls... all of the shields look exactly the same to me... although I did just notice that I beat level 5 solo on Legendary but not at all on co-op, and Level 4 on Legenadary co-op but not at all on solo - maybe that's why I haven't got those "shines"...

That's exactly how your skill ranking works. If its a team game and your team wins, but your own personal stats weren't great, you will eventually level-up, but much more slowly.

On the flipside, if you're on the losing team, but had a GREAT round personally, you likely won't lose a rank.

Ah! I finally managed to get past Tsavo Highway on legendary. I was (somewhat) cheap, but I did it. Ran towards the Wraith, plasma overcharge to stun it, jump on the wraith, shotgun + melee to the gunner brute, slap the wraith till the drivers out, board it and then cleared the rest of level with my wraith. All in all that level probably took me around 3 hours.

This was asked several pages back and there were a couple of us wondering, but we never got a definitive answer -

For all ranks lieutenant and higher you of course have the EXP requirement, but ALSO the skill rank requirement. My question is simple: Do you have to MAINTAIN that skill, or does is it just look for the highest skill you've ever hit?

Example: You have 105 EXP, and manage to hit skill 20 in Team Slayer. This promotes you up to Captain. If you go on a losing streak and drop to skill rank 19, does this demote you to Lieutenant, or do you remain a captain, because you did hit 20 at one point?

Cool, thanks for the response. I'm always sitting at right about 1.00 on K/D ratio, so I suppose that's the reason why I haven't been ranking up as quickly as I thought I might. Better work on my skills, eh? :D

EDIT: Anecdotal evidence suggests that you can't de-level in terms of your military rank, but I haven't seen any official word on that.

I just need the last three meta-game achievements now. My roommate and I are doing them together. We'll probably clear all three tonight once I get back from this museum thing I have to go to and write a paper on. Sucks getting days off from work just to do school work but...What are you gonna do. Can finally get some more time with Matchmaking tonight too. If our damn connection problem holds up. Lieutenant here I come.

I'll try to find it but someone in this thread had the same scenario and they didn't get demoted.

Reading through these "Brute-Rape time" posts has made me think about changing up on my strategy next time I go through that level. What I'm going to do is, is drop a trip mine in the area that the Wraith usually stays at. Hopefully that will be enough to destroy the big bastard. (maybe I should drop two, just to be safe) Doing that should make things much, much easier, because every time I would attempt to go outside and kill some Brutes, here would come the gigantic ball of plasma raining down on my head.
