So, since it seems I'm going to have to earn the 'chievements the hard way, does anyone have any tips on:
-mongoose
-triple sword kill
-double kill w/ lazer
-killtacular?
I've gotten all but the sword one ... but none of those are easy. The problem isn't that they're really difficult skill-wise (save for the killtacular), but that they're only doable on a small number of maps. For example, swords only appear on Pit and Construct maps, the laser only appears on Snowbound and Construct, and the mongoose is only on Isolation.

... which means, like me, you're in for a lot of filler Lone Wolf games.

For the mongoose one, just dedicate an entire Isolation round to driving around like an idiot. It's actually pretty tough to nail someone hard enough with that thing, but it'll happen. For the laser, I got it when someone was trying to board another's ghost on Snowbound, but that one's just a matter of being in the right time at the right place and hogging the laser. As for the killtacular, well, that one's up to you, mostly. I'd suggest camping with the gravity hammer, shotgun or sword on any map (Guardian's great for a bunch of quick kills).

::shrug:: you'll just get'em someday. i'm not all that great at halo, and i'm pretty sure I have all but the killtacular... just keep trying, have fun, and don't worry about it.

Thanks, plaid and kittens. My real fear was that eventually I'd get to a high enough skill level that enemies wouldn't be making mistakes that would allow the achievements.

So you need all 49 achievements for the Katana Armor, eh?

Yup, but the achievements are fairly easy (except some of the online ones), and I think the armor is worth it :D

fucking lone wolves becomes wack after you get passed level 30. all ppl wanna do is get achievements.

I wish this were the truth.

People are getting too good for me to actually get the achievements I need.

Promised land confirmed -- I'm racing towards level 30 as fast as I can. I just wanna get back to playing the fun team stuff, anyway. Only with sweet, sweet Marathon armor.

Ive counted at least 10 times today when all people want to do is get achievements(i'm at a 32 right now)

Such as? Something like "let me get the achievement and you can kill me 25 times"?
"Let me run you over and I'll be your best friend forever" is more along the lines of what I was thinking. :D

I was lucky and ran in to a bunch of people who needed the Mongoose Splatter acheivement and we all took turns splattering eachother. Then we kinda stood around looking at eachother for a minute or two until I stickied someone and all hell broke loose.

Good times :lol

Hey, has anyone heard what's up with the 'Gravesite' Video for the Believe diorama? It was supposed to go up on the first but here it is 3 days later and there is nothing. Seems kinda strange that it's missing this long after it was supposed to go up.

The Halo 3 multiplayer achievements are seriously flawed, I'd say even worse than Gears of War MP achievements (at least currently - a Lone Wolves playlist update can fix many of these issues).

Everyone complained about Gears' achievements only being available in ranked matches and Bungie repeats the same mistake but makes matters even worse by limiting them to just ONE single playlist. And to further complicate things, a bunch of the achievements (mongoose, sword, boarding, laser, etc) are only attainable on like one or two maps.

But the most flawed part about them is that the longer you play, it becomes much more difficult because you're ranking up and facing more skilled opponents. These players aren't going to let themselves get splattered or crowd around each other or anything like that.

I specifically remember someone from Bungie (Stinkles I think) saying they spent a lot of time on the achievements and that something like this wouldn't happen. So much for that....

Unfortunately that doesn't happen when you're playing 47s and 48s.
Yeah, I got up to 42 and it was rough. But ultimately, it's time well spent.

Sexy times is all.

And Coco I demand you get a HDTV stat!
I have a 19" LCD. I also have a 32" tube TV, but... once you've gone HD, you can't go back.

Also, I love the way that grenade looks. Everything holds up so well under the intense scrutiny of a detachable, zoomable cam. It's really unbelievable.

Does the sword always show up on your dude no matter what armor? Or is it an option or what?
It's another piece of body armour. It's identical to the Hayabusa body piece, except with the katana on the back.

Yes and no. Gears achievements actually hurt Team games. Bungie made the achievement requirements in such a way as to deter "boosting", but little did they realize that people want that shit so bad they'll find a way. Dammit Bungie, you've reduced me to begging just to get that Overkill!

Tell me about it.

How are you guys convincing people to cheat the achievements on Lone Wolves? I thought there's no voice chat.
You have around 15 seconds of chat time before the match actually begins. Repeated crouching during gameplay seems to signal "don't shoot me, I'm up for achievement boosting".

Bungie, look what you made me do:

I've never achievement boosted until this game. Stupid sexy ninja sword.

It's much more satisfying to get that achievement without being a dirty cheater whore. Itagaki would call you a Ninja Dog.

Yeah Ive had people try to initiate a cheat session in the pre-game lobby before. I dont usually wear a headset when playing lone wolves so I couldnt respond, but I found the whole thing kind annoying.

Honor is but a roadblock to getting the sword.

I was one of the guys in line. I still don't have the Overkill. :(

Well it's gotten to the point where people in Lone Wolves are private chatting and working together - protecting each other when they have the ball, sharing hill time, etc.

So fucking lame.

So I take it the object is to rank boost until one reaches level 50. What's the point? Rank is just for getting matched with people of a similar skill level.

I just wanted a damn sword on my back...

That's true about not hurting team games, but that's about the only thing Bungie did better with their achievements.

They should've anticipated people would "boost" for achievements. The first problem was making some of them extremely difficult to get during normal gameplay. And the other big mistake was tying those difficult achievements to the unlockable armor.

It also doesn't seem to help that quite a few achievements and armour perms are buggy. I got all the achievements, and all the skulls and still have a missing piece (Elite Commando Shoulder).

And yeah, making achievements that are insanely hard unless people LET you get them (required at anything above the very lowest levels), and then tying it to armour perms is foolish in the extreme.

Quite a few more of those achievements should have been enabled in campaign as well as multiplayer.

Out of curiosity, how do you guys take down the two Scarabs on legendary? After several failed approaches I eventually used the tank to blast the ass off one of them and hit its core using that method, took out all the Ghosts, assorted bastards running around on the remaining Scarab using the tank, then used a Hornet to board and finish off the other one, and even that took some time and alot of luck.
I used the hornet, it makes that battle so easy it's not funny. Just stay high and circle one of the scarabs while shooting its legs until it stops moving. Then you can shoot the target on its ass and finally the core. Rinse and repeat for the other scarab.
