60 fps Halo 3!!

I posted in another thread (regarding Halo 3's visuals) about how I got it going at a buttery smooth 30fps in theatre mode. Looks like I was wrong, it was a buttery smooth 60 fps!

My bro did it again this time, as he was looking at how he played a level. Basically you hold down the right trigger at a particular threshold, and the game moves at 60 fps. It stays like that when you are in empty rooms, and when there are people in there it is harder to maintain.

But it looks incredibly sweet. Try it yourself!

Screw Mission 8. Worst hour ever. I almost cried when I finally saw the Arbiter.
I was one of the people that hated being forced to play as the Arbiter in Halo 2. I slowly came around to it, but was always of the mindset that the Chief/Arbiter super-duo was the cheesiest thing ever.

And maybe it is. But after Halo 3, I couldn't care less.
The scene where the Arbiter kills Truth and the Chief gives him a nod; right after that when they get backed up to each other, back-to-back; the scene you mentioned where Cortana says "I'm picking up a friendly! But who would be crazy enough to come in here?" and then you see the Arbiter on that ridge with the freakin' flamethrower! Ugh, so amazing. And then who could forget the nods the two exchange in the Dawn hangar at the end of the game.

The Arbiter is probably my favorite character. I honestly never thought I'd feel this way, but... the way he started out as a servant of the Covenant, but ultimately realized the truth; his voice (Keith David, so perfect); and the Elites' overall type of speech ("I will beat the Prophet's shield like a drum"). He's just one of the baddest video game characters ever.

I also loved
his final scene in the game. The Elites talking about their homeworld and his final line: "take us home," was the perfect ending to his side of the story.

I'll admit, I'm a sentimentalist when it comes to a good story. Therefore, I love this game.

So, I'm starting to try and collect skulls, but for some reason the first skull in the game on Sierra 117 just isn't doing anything when I pick it up. I'm picking it up, and nothing is happening. WTF.

It's a silver. Nothing happens to tell you that you did it.

Until now.

You did it.

That's a silver skull, you only get achievements for gold skulls. But once you pick it up and complete the level, it'll be unlocked for you from the campaign options screen. Outside of the ones that give you achievements though, there's no other type of notification that you've picked up a skull or anything no.

Curse you buttonbasher!

Also we need to get a rocketrace game going tomorrow or something, it's my last day off and I still haven't played it or even know what it is really.

Uh oh. I didn't complete the mission. I saved and quit. Do I have to start the mission all over again?

Actually no my bad, you can save and quit and you get it. I don't think I actually completed any of the levels when I was doing skulls. I was thinking about that you have to start at the beginning of the level, had it backwards. It's late :P

Oh thank GOD. Oh, and Armubaba? Sorry about my shitty connection dropping us. Hopefully it'll be fixed tomorrow. = /

Well I got 750 achievement points which is supposed to unlock the "security" variant on the shoulders. I went to appearance to check them out and they showed up, but then my screen kinda blipped and they were locked again.

Has this been mentioned before? Is something wrong?

I'm not digging the Jackal snipers on Sierra 117 on Legendary. Taking out the three that are in sniping range at the end of that level before I got dropped took half an hour. They kill in one shot, often fire two shots in quick succession and can absorb a full clip from the Carbine or BR at medium range and still not drop, unless they take a headshot. (Which isn't an option when their entire body is the size of the targeting reticle.)

Those guys aside, Legendary has been a hoot. I'm halfway through Crows Nest now.

Speaking of which - I'm thinking Crows Nest would make a better first level than Sierra 117. The close quarters makes for a better tutorial, whereas Sierra 117 would build nicely onto that with the larger encounters, introduction of the snipers and finally the Chieftain at the end. The pacing in Halo 3 was pretty spot-on, but those two levels feel backwards in terms of how they flow. I realize that's not really do-able because of the story, but still. After the big outdoors battles, staying indoors for level two feels like step back. (Which is not to say it's not a fun level - it is.)

I've heard conflicting reports. Some say it's based on your gamerscore. Others say it's related to how many meta-game achievements you have.

Oh my god the spawns are getting absurd. In the past few matches alone I have watched:

-On High Ground, me spawn at the beach, someone from the enemy team spawn behind ME, then my teammate spawn behind me and in front of the enemy.
-Spawn where I just died, which happened 3 times in a shotty snipers match on Narrows, which resulted in 3 deaths in about 10 seconds.
-Spawned on a already fucking active power drainer.

Seriously, what the fuck. Usually I chalk this shit up to me sucking and/or bitching, but everyone else we've played with is complaining about it too. They seriously need to get this shit fixed, I don't even feel like playing the game anymore. I didn't play most of today because of it, then when we decide to get back on it starts happening immediately again, almost every single game. I'm disappointed I took time off for this, I'm really starting to regret it. Losing games due to fucked up spawns over and over is crap. Where I spawned 3 times in the same spot where I died cost us the last game. That combined with shotty snipers over and over and over and over is quickly killing my desire to play this game. We had some good fun with Forge though.
I was just coming on here to bitch about the spawns. I REALLY hope they can tweak it, because I'm getting really sick of spawning 4 feet in front of the opposite team, or a whole map away from my team. Spawning only to die within 2 seconds is garbage, especially when its happening as regularly as it is.

I just got done with Sierra 117 on Legendary. I used my sniper rifle with those snipers at the end battle. Still died a lot.
Seems I was disconnected from xbox live during part of Sierra 117 cause my stats don't seem to have been uploaded. Shame :(.

Is anybody else pissed off at the lack of variety in matchmaking? Maybe I just have bad luck, but I swear, I cannot play a TS game that's not on Isolation...

...I hate the map, too :[

I tried to lug a sniper rifle all the way to the end, but couldn't find one - all the snipers I dropped on the way there left their rifles out of reach. Greedy bastards.

The servers are a bit laggy lately. It takes awhile for your stats to update.

I had a UNSC sniper rifle...I got it from a crashed pelican. I think it's in the area of the second to last encounter.

So stats do get uploaded even if you weren't connected while playing (part of) the game?

The spawns are pretty terrible overall. Especially noticeable if you ever play the "multi team" social playlist (4 teams of 2). You rarely ever spawn near your teammate. I've also had the problem a lot on Team Slayer, which I'm starting to hate with a passion due to the maps involved. I honestly have the most fun with Big Team Battle because you actually get appropriately sized maps and you don't get spawn-ganked nearly as often (and the Battle Rifle/Laser are my best weapons and much easier to use in open environments... I own Valhalla/Sandtrap :p).

What could have stolen it's thunder? I have no idea?

430k according to the game.

I'm schizo about Isolation. I HATE the lower portion of the map ("hit you in the back" supreme) but love the upper portion (battle rifle ownage). I cheer everytime I get it on Slayer because it's the only other decent map besides High Ground. I die a little inside every time Narrows comes up.

That could be interpreted as the more advanced humans building their ships to leave. Sort of like when Europeans arrived in the Americas with guns and stuff. The Native Americans were just as human as the settlers (in fact, I recall there being stories of the Native Americans regarding the Europeans as gods).

I'm just trying to reconcile the game with the ARG. I mean, the game clearly states that humans are Forerunner. And it's pretty much been saying that all along.

Humans are not Forerunner[/url]. Go read the terminals (read them in-game, to get the achievement, obviously, but that site has a full transcription of all their contents, which is handy as you don't get long to read some of it).
They contain a series of dialogues between two Forerunners - referred to as Librarian (who it's revealed early on to be working on the categorization and archival of sentient lifeforms, and on Earth judging by the fairly heavy-handed hints given) and Didact (seemingly Librarian's lover, and somewhere behind the line of battle with the Flood)
.

A few parts from various ones:

L: I've remotely destroyed our Keyships. A security measure. Without them I cannot reach the Ark. But neither then can the thing.

I'm trapped. On a beautiful, empty world. Its inhabitants have been safely indexed, every single one of them. They're special--well worth the effort it took to build one final gateway even at this late hour.

This may be our last communication. I'm begging you. Fire the Array. Light the weapon, and let it be done.

D: We've confirmed your observations. Infected supraluminal ships are arrowing inward from several cluters. No more spiral growth. The thing is couterattacking. Suppression, Security and Emergency Circumstance fleets are all being recalled. Systems are evacuating.

Mendicant Bias is no longer communicating with us.

But now I can guess where you are.

L: My work is done. The portal is inactive, and I've begun the burial measures. Soon there'll be nothing but sand and rock and normal ferrite signatures.

You should see the mountain that watches over it. A beautiful thing--a snowcapped sentinel
. That's where I will spend what time is left to me.

Did I tell you? I built a garden. The earth is so rich. A seed falls and a tree sprouts or a flower blooms. There's so much...potential. We knew this was a special place because of them (, but unless you've been here, you can't know.

It's [Eden].

I have to stop transmitting. The thing is listening. Its [thinking dead] are babbling--laughing through every channel they can find.

Be proud. The Mind claims victory, yet it still doesn't suspect. You've outwitted it, my love. And now you can destroy it.

But you cannot save me.
(emphasis mine)

If i'm interpreting things right (
the Librarian is on Earth, as indicated by the mention of a portal mechanism buried in the desert near the foot of a lone snowcapped mountain, which fits the portal excavated in the game perfectly, with the mountain being Mt. Kilimanjaro
), it seems that
the Forerunners discovered Earth, and humanity, and decided there was something unusual and special about us, and when they built the Halos and related paraphernalia decided we should be their successor race of sorts (the Reclaimers of their abandoned technology).

Rockets on Narrows = fun :D

I'm falling in love with Halo 3 multiplayer...

I never played Halo 2 for a extensive amount of time because the whole thing was a train wreck. Everything was way to unbalanced IMO.

Halo 3 is one of the most balanced shooters I've ever seen, and I can't stop playing it. :(

Me thinks you're looking at the wrong game.

EDIT: Nevermind, just saw the updated count. It really was that low when I posted it though.

DOUBLE EDIT: I was right. Now only 4,571 players online in Halo 2.

Every match and co-op session I've played online won't show up in my recent films list, only the ones I've played by myself on campaign. Anyone know why?

We'll be on again tomorrow night. :) Good times man. We were really whooping ass in matchmaking.

Okay so here is a question...

did everyone here watch after the credits?? Man way to fucking go microsoft! That kicked so much ass! If you wanna know what happens read next spoiler... but i wont spoil it..

there is another cutscene after the credits

Is there a decent story FAQ anywhere? I have questions...
Some of them are probably answered in this thread, but I'm not about to go through all 500 pages...

Generally thought the game was good. Not totally convinced it's a big step up from 1 & 2 - I would have preferred more levels on the
unfinished Halo
to the slog through the
Flood ship thing.

MP & co-op are great though, and the saved films are just crazy good. :D

Most did. Since only after that game complete achievement will be unlocked. It was really nice ending.

I really wish there was 1 or 2 more levels like Sierra 117. I LOVED the jungle setting and graphics in that first level. Fucking amazing and I think 2 more jungle trek levels would have been awesome. (I bet some disagree with me there).

It's not 60fps, you're fast fowarding the film clip.

For a truly buttery smooth 60fps shooter, you'll have to wait until November 5th.

I agree, the jungle kickstarted WOW for me, after the jungle, with vegetation that interacts , comes some very bland indoor stuff imo. And after level 3 Halo3 picks up BIG time imo, all he way to the end.
