Honestly, the Arbiter on Legendary is a beast. I think one of the most frustrating elements of Halo 3's campaign is the inconsistency of the friendly AI. They do the strangest things, almost as though they are idiot savants. In some missions, they are completely worthless on foot and when driving a vehicle, they're either deathtraps or car wrecks, hardly doing anything right. But when you have them shotgun on a Goose or load up a Prowler with them and all of a sudden they're brilliant heroes capable of eviscerating Scarabs and leveling armies.

Having played through the entire campaign solo on Legendary, I found myself running a lot from encounters when my ammo went dry or simply relying on the skill of my allies. The Arbiter in
'Halo'
is a violent beast. If you direct him appropriately, he'll plow through the
Flood
like he's on vacation. With patience, Legendary is actually not as difficult as I thought it would be on
'Cortana' and 'Halo'
. I had more difficulty on
'Crow's Nest' and 'Tsavo Highway'
incidentally.

People mention
Tsavo Highway
as being difficult but I breezed through that on Legendary. The only difficulty I had was during the big struggle to
get up the hill to the highway again past all the Wraiths and Brute Choppers
. Once I realized that continually killing all the enemies wasn't triggering a cutscene I realized I just had to ride up the side of the hill and onto the road. :lol Took out the
Wraith
with my
Brute Chopper
from long range, hopped in and cleared out the rest of the road no problem.

Your comments about the NPC AI are spot-on. The Arbiter didn't do shit for me for a while and the humans were practically worthless except for the 5th mission riding shotgun. Oh well, the experience is still on par with how rewarding it was to beat Call of Duty 2 on Veteran (though I didn't spend 5 hours on one level in CoD like I did with mission 2 of Halo 3 on Legendary! :lol)

Hey, I got a medal that's aptly named, Steaktacular, and it says, "Luke owes you dinner". Is it the same Luke Smith right here at GAF?
If it is then where's mah dinner, Lukems!!!

Guys you know Halo is my favourite franchise and I've defended Halo 3 since the beta emerged but...

I'm not enjoying it as much as I thought I would :(

I posted the above after completing 'Crows Nest' and in hindsight it was a snap judgement.

I'm currently on 'Cortana' and up until this point every level has impressed me, especially 'Tsavo Highway', 'The Storm' and 'The Ark'. My favourite being 'The Covenant'.

Like some other people have mentioned, this is now my favourite game of the trilogy.

Do you have to get all the Terminals in one run? Cuz I need to do that. Any GAF groups gearing up tonight for a Terminal run?

You should have waited until you finished Cortana to make that statement. :lol (The Storm is my personal favorite.)

Let me introduce Ninja Toddler...

I don't know if ButtonBasher, Armubaba, or Spudbud has told the tale of what happened last night/this morning yet, so I apologize for posting this if they have. The plan was to go through the campaign fairly quickly, collecting skulls, getting achievement points and just having a good time. We did all but the "fairly quickly" part. Spudbud, Strikevillain, Buttonbasher, and myself started playing through co-op at around 8:00 PM yesterday. We played until about 9:00 - 9:30 (correct me if I'm wrong guys) until a few people had to go eat, do some things etc.

The plan was to get back together at 10:30 PM (what's up 2 hours :lol), but I had to run to the store real quick to pick up some snack foods/beverages because I didn't think we'd finish up until around 2-3 AM and I didn't want to cook something that late so we didn't start until a little after 11:00. (thanks again for waiting up guys) Anyway, back to co-op. Strikevillian was supposed to jump back on and finish up the fight with us, but I guess he had things to do elsewhere. Since Strike wasn't there yet, we decided to go back through the level "The Storm" to get the skull because for some reason, BB and myself didn't get the achievement for it. (we assume because Spud or Strike grabbed the skull first buttonbasher and myself couldn't get the achievement) Afterwards each of us (Spud, Buttonbasher, and myself) sent out some invites to try to get people to join and our good friend Armubaba showed up. We warmly welcomed him to our party and got underway.

Earlier in the day, we finished up the levels: Sierra 117, Crow's Nest, Tsavo Highway, and The Storm. So we were up to the level
"Floodgate"
- it took us a few tries to get the skull on that level. Next up:
"The Ark"
. Not too bad, a few shenanigans here and there. Now comes the level and experience I'll remember for all time.
"The Covenant"
. It's already a beast of a level, but when you add in lots and lots of shenanigans, Xbox 360's messing up, and competitiveness you get a MONSTER of a level. Throughout the night we have been joking back and forth about which team is better (Team Elite > Team Chief) but it really heated up in this level. Even Team Elite started turning on each other before the outbreak - I'll get to the 'outbreak' in a minute. BB has a thing for the Mongoose's horn so I'll stole it before could get to it and he proceeded to attempt to run me over with the Warthog, in which he succeeded in doing so. Somehow, his Warthog blew up or we lost or something, so he had to jump on the back of my Mongoose. (I let him on, cautiously. He's a plasma grenade happy individual.) Meanwhile, Spud and Armubaba are literally miles away from us waiting for us to stop dicking around to get into the Hornets. There's just one problem: I'm lost. I don't have a freakin' clue where we're at and I'm going full speed towards the beach. For a reason yet uncovered, I broke through an "invisible wall". BB and me were stuck outside unable to get back into the fight. Spud and Armubaba died in a battle shortly afterwards respawning beside us, outside the invisible wall. We took a deep swim and shortly died afterwards.

So we respawn at the last checkpoint. We go through the level fairly quickly with laughs and some more shenanigans. (bail out.gif, brutezoned, Team Elite, etc.) We finally make it to where you get the skull for a piece of the Hayabusha armor. It's a long, and I mean very long process to get this damn thing. Spud was the one
jumping over the rings
whilst BB was reading off the order to do it in. He was at the last
ring
and his Xbox 360 messes up. He said it was some time of a power surge problem or something, but I secretly think that Frankie hacked into our game and messed up Spud's host for beating him the other day. :P

We're absolutely devastated. So close.. In the lobby we're crying gallons of salty tears, waiting for Spudbud to arrive again. A few minutes pass by and he's back. WOOT! At this point, we're a little hesitated on what to do. We all agree that we're going to get this damn skull even if it kills us. Keep in mind, it's like 3:00 in the morning now. The level restarts and we rush as fast as we can through the beginning. Since we were rushing instead of killing off all the enemies, the Pelican that normally drops off some vehicles, didn't. So we're stuck on foot. While we're running, BB sees a broken branch and decides to start messing with it. He gets our attentions and the next thing you know, we're messing with the branch. Spud, the sane of the group at this point, gets us in line and get back to achieving what we set out to do. Fast forward a few moments and we're where the fight with the two Scarabs take place.

Here comes one of the best things I've ever heard over Xbox live: Spud's meltdown. We're trying our best to kill these Scarabs, but we've died multiple times and guess what? No vehicles again. Both the Brutes and those damn Scarabs took out our Hornets. I don't know what BB and Spud is doing, but I'm concentrated on getting a ghost (following Armubaba's lead) and jumping into one of these damn things. Somehow, someone took out a Scarab. It's just one left. Then it happens: Spud just starts rolling, to the point he was about to piss himself. He has me, BB, and Armubaba laughing our asses off. And this lasts for about 5 minutes, literally. Things start to calm down eventually, with a few laughs here and there. The Scarab remains untouched. I finally accept the fact that we're never going to get on top of this Scarab so I pull out my Battle Rifle and I see an opening. The only chance we have at beating this thing. I start shooting the weak spot from the ground until it falls and eventually explodes. INFINITE WIN! I SAVED THE DAY! :lol (take that Spud. :P)

We make it back to the spot where you get a piece of the Hayabusha armor. We're all getting really tired at this point and want to get this part done as soon as possible. BB attempts to do what has to be done first. While he's busy doing that, things start to get a little dirty between Spud, Armubaba, and myself. We get into this weird huddle mode and we're checking out each others Armor and giving nice, borderline gay, comments about how we look. I see there's some Forerunner symbols on Armubaba's armor and mention them. BB starts rolling in the background and says "tell me we're not having this conversation". (:lol oh we did..we did.) BB fails. He couldn't get it to work, so Spud decides he'll attempt it. While he's doing this BB gets into huddle mode for a moment while Armubaba takes his leave to do something. Five, maybe ten minutes, later: Spud does it! WE ACTUALLY GET THIS SKULL! It was as if Jesus Christ himself appeared before us. We were so happy and relieved, nothing could have dampened our spirits there. It makes me happy just thinking about us getting it the way we did...a true reward.

Next up:
Cortana
. No more games, at this point we're all dead tired. We get through this level pretty quick. We're just rushing, gunning, and saving each others asses. We do what needs to be done. Finally:
Halo
. We're so close to achieving what we desired, we can taste it. Die a few times here and there on to way to battle
343 Guilty Spark
. In the battle I die first, then Spud and Armubaba shortly after. BB is the only one left. For some odd reason he would grab that damn Spartan Laser. I don't know if he had a moment of racism against it or what, but he did finally grab it. He succeeded in killing
343 guilty spark
, but, god bless him, he decided to bail out - bail out meaning kill himself - right after he killed what needed to be killed. He died and we had to start over again. (damn you BB!) I killed it this time.

Escape. And fast. We get into the Warthogs and die many, many time throughout this level. During the whole time we're dying, we're busting Armubab's chops about his driving skills. (He's not exactly the best drive, j/k Arm. You know you're an awesome driver.) 360,000 deaths later we're getting dead tired. This time, I could feel it, we were going to beat this level. Spud starts driving fantastically. Along the course of the level Armubaba/BB die along the way. So it's just me and Spud left. We make it further than we've ever got before. Something (I think it was a bruteshot) tips us over. I quickly jump out and flip over the Warthog. Sacrifices had to be made in order to beat this level, so I left Spud behind. (real nice teamwork, eh? :lol) Spud dies, and I'm trucking along. Almost there. Wait..wait the hell just happened? For some reason, in my tired mind, I just kept wanting to go straight ahead instead of turning. I die and laughter ensues. A few tries later, and we do it. Guess who actually finishes the level? Good 'ol Armubaba. We instantly praise him with comments about his driving. We watch the ending, very happily, and speculate on what it means and what exactly that black thing was.

Just one final problem: BB didn't get the achievement for completing the campaign on Legendary. Why? Because we didn't watch the cutscene in Arrival. We quickly watched it and got him the achievement. I think this truly attests to how great Halo 3 is. I mean, to go what we went through, and still not let this dampen our experience is extraordinary. The plan, as of now, is to go back through the Campaign again tonight to get the scoring achievements and help Armubaba get his Legendary Achievements.

I know I'm nowhere close to being a good story teller, so please, add some details I missed guys. :D

I think I would have liked Cortana a lot more if there had been a few less Shotgun drops and few more BRs or Carbines, seemed like I'd constantly be stuck with a flamethrower, sword, and shotgun when I needed a ranged weapon to take out one of the Ranged Pure Forms.

Once I got used to the layout actually getting around was fine, the wierd way it's all structured probably makes it my favourite 'corridor' enviroment in the game.

I quite like the forced use of mainly close quarter weapons, it makes the gameplay totally different over the more open levels.

After days of arguing with a putty window (and finally giving up and asking my bro for help) my NAT is finally Open now, so Im up for co-op with who-ever needs a partner (or straight MP or whatever).

Seems that starting from checkpoint in the campaign level doesn't show skull.

I was trying to find Iron Skull in Sierra 117. Time to play again from start.

Yeah, you have to go through the whole game. I tried, literally, five times to get the last skull, before realizing I had to blow through the entire level to get it. Wasted an hour of my life.

The game just came out this week and you're yelling for new maps? It's called nostalgia...play some of these and you'll like them more.

I played a couple games on Isolation the other day where everyone had BRs. You spawn, get shot, die. Rinse and repeat. I actually won the match and it was a pain in the ass because the only time I was safe when I spawned was when I was behind a fucking wall. BR starts are horrible. The AR is much better.

What's wrong with AR start and picking up weapons along the way, if need be?

No dude, its really not.

Lone wolf is retarded, 5 people, maybe if they had 8 i could find ppl in the maps, level 22 in lone wolf trying to get higher, but its really hard to find anyone during the match.
