**Bumped. Thread is a quick one.

Is the only way to get the online achievements for FFA only apply to Lone Wolf? Seems kind of hard to get a 4 person kill when being matched up with usually 3 other people.

I answered for you last page, but it probably got lost in the shuffle.

Yup, that's how you have to do it. They're tough. The running riot in particular will be hard for me.

Honestly I havent seen much hate for level nine, so I think you are kind of making that up in your head. The trend is hate level 8, and its pretty justified.

I hated 8 (especially in Legendary) until I figured out that those Flood bitches (including the needle spiting long distance bastards) fall like flies to dual wielded Plasma rifles. Then it was all good. :D

Just a request - whenever anyone brings up the forge or custom gametypes or something, PLEASE direct them to this topic - it isn't going to get much foot traffic on its own.

Make sure Dirtbag throws a link to it on the B.net Group Page. Or try and put it in the Gaming Forum. Online hardly ever gets the traffic it deserves.

Ah sorry. I need the sword / re-jack vehicle / stick 5 / 4 within 4.

4 within 4 seconds is painfully hard with so little people.

Sword is obtainable....but usually on team swords which I don't know is in the playlist.

Stick 5 I probably can do, but it alters my gameplay style.

Re-jacking your vehicle is much harder in this game...also have a good shot at killing the person by accident now.

Are the 'Canvas' Files the ones I have heard about where the author took everything out of the maps so they are a blank slate? Also does everything include spawn points? Thanks.

Well they don't have much reason to follow you to the Halo. There's no revenge motive or whatever because there's no reason to think anyone but the Flood offed truth. And it's not like they don't want you to fire the ring, that's what the entire last two games and 3/4 of this one were about. Fuck, if anything they should have been helping you. Why didn't the fleet master bust some ass too?

Here is a funny and random story.

I live a small town that's surrounded by even worse backwater towns. A lady at work pulled me aside today and said this (paraphrased)...

Her pastor yelled at her because she has a job. Women should be at home.

Her pastor also obviously runs the church youth group. Her 14 year old son is it in.

What did he win as a prize yesterday?

Halo 3.

I feel so lonely that I'm never around you folks, but I'm racing to Finish the Fight today so I can play multiplayer with you all tomorrow.

I'm right at the end of level 8 and I must say... it doesn't deserve all the hate it gets.

Woohoo! Running Riot! 18 in a row. I was about to get number 19 but match ended. Admittedly I was playing against mostly bad players, but still. Woohoo! What's 20 in a row?

I finished the campaign this morning and I have to say I thought it was excellent. Maybe it was just because a friend of mine who finished it day 1 had told me it was crappy and worse than H2, so my expectations were lowered, or maybe it was just that good.

I'll have zero problems at the end of the year seeing Halo 3 get GoTY from everywhere. I'd give the single player campaign a 9/10 and add the multiplayer and it's easily a 9.5/10 or 10/10 game.

The campaign had exactly what I want out of a good FPS: variety. I felt the campaign length was perfect and Bungie did a remarkable job at keeping it fresh. For example:

The section where you had to take out the 3 shield generators. In most FPS games you'd have to go one by one and take out the generators doing the same shit over and over and it's repetitive and boring. But in Halo 3 you:

1. Do a vehicle driving level up to the first generator
2. Do the generator level
3. Find out the 2nd generator is done for you
4. When you find out the 3rd generator needs your assistance instead of going "ugh, now I have to do the same thing again", you do an awesome flying level over there
5. Do the last generator

That sequence was fun from minute 1 through the final minute all because they kept introducing new gameplay.

Other things like the first time you fight the spider tank you have the long struggle of bringing it down and climbing inside, but by the end when you're taking on the two of them you're flying around and blowing them up from the back with missles.

The amount of locations are varied, the amount of enemies are varied, the amount of weapons (which are all useful in some way) are varied, the amount of vehicles are varied; the game just never lets itself feel repetitive.

Even the friendly AI was way better than expected. Whenever I drove vehicles and had an AI shooting from the passenger, they'd kickass and help me out of tough situations.

The music was fantastic, and while I thought the game was the least impressive looking AAA title I'd ever played for the first 1/3rd graphically, once the big battles started with tons of huge ships/vehicles/enemies everywhere with a stable framerate, the engine showed its stuff. I'd say it's a lot like Resistance in that respect, the engine is built for tons of things going on, so early on when not much is going on it looks weak.

Oh and I want to put in some huge props for whoever did the cutscene direction. The whole wide angle distance shots with nice lighting for key scenes was excellent. Seriously some great great cutscenes in there. The only low point was the human models, but luckily the majority of cutscenes were just cool looking armor dudes :)

Overall there are really only two complaints I had with the game:

1. The enemy AI seemed worse than Halo 1/2. The brutes would just stay back and fire and then ram you up close, the little things would not do much, and the
flood would just rush straight at you
. I mean it makes sense from a story-perspective and going by how enemies acted in H1/2, but the main difference was that in H1/2 you fought against the SMART elites, which are absent here. I remember all the times in H1/2 when elites would flank around me and stuff, and I remember thinking how that was the coolest thing ever. The AI was still good in H3 and was fun to fight against, but it just didn't have that sharp tactical edge that made it the best AI ever that H1/2 had.

2. Every single Halo games has had 1 section that was kind of crappy. But, I didn't feel it took away from Halo 1 being one of the best FPS ever, and I didn't think it took away from Halo 2 being one of the best FPS ever, and I don't think it takes away from Halo 3 being one of the best fps ever. Halo 1 had the Library, Halo 2 had the dumb monkey boss + ending, Halo 3 has the
level inside the flood ship, which was ok and gave some variety, but it was also a bit long and really annoying at parts
. Still perfect games are boring, you gotta have some flaw to be interesting and Halo 3 maintains the 1 annoying area pattern.

So yeah, fantastic game. Congrats Bungie on keeping it fresh and fun.

I have a couple of questions for those who've finished:
1. If you let the screen sit after the "thank you for playing" message is there another cutscene?

2. If you beat it on legendary/heroic do you get a bonus ending scene?

3. Why was the Halo from Halo 1 floating in The Ark?

4. When you fired the Halo at the end, what did you fire it at?

5. What was the point of all the stuff Cortana kept saying for the entire game?

Would you kindly list all of the levels in Halo 3 (just the names)? I know it has been posted elsewhere, but I've been unable to find it and so far my searches have brought me uncomfortably close to spoilertown.

I love this game, it consumes me like no other has before it.

It's to the point that i don't care if my gf is out fucking someone else as long as she lets me play Halo 3 in peace.

The thing is that Halo doesn't bitch at me when i don't want to go out to dinner because i'm not hungry, it doesn't menstruate, it never gets jealous or moody for no fucking reason whatsoever.

Halo 3 is perfect in all dimensions...

Quoted for teh awesomeness.

My friend is playing MP on my system right now and i have yet to see a single frame drop, i didn't notice any on the campaign too...

weird shit...

1)Yes
2)Yes
3)It was a replacement for the Halo installation you destroyed in Halo CE
4)That installation wasn't ready, so firing it in this early condition would basically cause it to explode (and the ark, installation 00, with it). In Halo CE you overload the pillar of automn to blow up a Halo, and in Halo 3 you overload a Halo to blow up the ark, I think.
5)I don't know, it was hard to follow as I didn't have subtitles on, but I heard it's stuff from some of the books

That's one of my absolute favorite things the campaign. It pretty much is never cliche'd or predictable. That level you were talking about
I fully expected some huge corridor sprawling nonsense, your supposed to go into these huge buildings right, so it's only natural for the buildings themselves to be the focus of the fight. What do you get? A freaking huge outdoor vehicle battle, a quick punch through the defenders at the game, one single room of badguys, and you are at the goal. Take the elevator up to go hit the button... We are going to have one of those lame elevator encounters now that every fucking game has, right? No, just smooth sailing. Up to the top for an awesome ass brute pack fight, and you are done. Then instead of repeating the hog sequence for the next tower, you get to fly a fucking helicoptor and blow shit up, complete with another refreshing in and out indoor sequence. The game really does have some amazing pacing.

1. Yes.

2. Legendary, yes. I think it kinda takes away from the impact of the ending though.

3. It was a replacement or something, being created by the Ark to take it's place in the Halo array.

4. The general area. You were trying to nuke Gravemind and the flood.

5. Just to give you backstory on Cortana and Chief's relationship. They seemed to be echoes of Cortana that MC was remembering/experiencing. At least, up until the High Charity level where it seems she's actually communicating with you.

Jesus, did you play on legendary to start with or something? I did heroic first and it's absolutely grueling to make it through on legendary.

Oh and playing Legendary with Thunderstorm on turns the jackals into lolfests. Have you spent more than two seconds out of cover? Congrats, you just got headshotted.

Posted this in GDJustin's thread, but, until it gets some steam, I'd also like to post my stuff here as well:

"Working on a Helm's Deep gametype for High Ground. As it stands now:

-Based on 1 Bomb Assault. Intended for 2 teams of 10-6, attacking/defending respectively.
-Starting weapon is sword. No other weapons near the attacking teams base. (Thinking of adding a few spikers or some other mid to close range weapon)
-Defenders get 4 snipers for their "elven archers" and 2 Gravity Hammers to help keep the attackers at bay once they've "scaled the walls." (They also get a few inciendiary grenades to throw down on them)
-Equipment is as follows: Defenders get a few mines to help compensate for the weakness of the right wall. The "Uruk-Hai" get a few gravity lifts to act as their "ladders."
-In terms of changes to the actual map, I've filled in the right wall with lots of large crates; it can still be crossed easier than the rest, but it's definitely a challenge now. The bunker leading into the base has also had crates placed into its entrace. The hatch that opens into that same bunker has had a grav lift placed underneath it, which permanently closes the hatch and makes it impossible to enter into. (I want all the conflict to take place at the wall.)
-Lastly, the defenders have three Mongooses for "Horses" in case they wish to make one last glorious charge out.

If you have any suggestions, they'd be appreciated. I might be throwing up the gametype variant as well as the map variant later today."

Finished the game. Very happy with it. People can say what they will about the depth and relevance of the story but for me the Cinematography of some of the cutscenes and the music really made it such an awesome experience, and those are things that the first two games totally lacked. Great stuff.

One question/nitpick about the legendary ending

If they didnt make it back through the portal before the ring fired...shouldnt they have been 'extinguised' along with all other life within however many light years it was?

I played once on normal. Once on Legendary Solo. Once on Legendary Co-OP. Once on Legendary Meta-game.

Only two achievements I need are 3 kills with the sword and 4 kills in 4 seconds.
