The only bad things are

A) The terrible level design on level 8, which is extremely confusing and disorientating. At least give us some more Nav points damnit.

B) Not enough Spartan Laser

C) "Marathon Man" refuses to unlock despite me completing all requirements

D) The stupid parts of the game where you slow down to a crawl whilst weird shit happens on your screen. I want to shoot who came up with that idea; make it so it fucking has a voice over whilst you can continue playing. It's so fucking frustrating where you go along and BAM, you're more or less frozen. Terrible, terrible, terrible idea to halt gameplay. Didn't Bungie say something about having the story not interfere with gameplay? Yet they repeatedly break their own rule, and it sucks.

Other than that, the game is amazing.

Um, it doesn't interfere with gameplay. Now, if it obscured your screen while you were getting shot at, that would be interfering with gameplay. Would you rather they did that?

just beat the single player game.. a thoroughly dull and generic game, with only one standout level (4) and a piss poor ending. There were moments of geniune fun, but not many. I am glad that the game didnt follow the one FPS convention of
big bad boss fights at the end of the game
but it was pretty unforgettable. Not in my top 10 FPS's and if it werent for achievements I doubt i would ever touch it again. Im glad ive got it out the way and im free to enjoy the MP now.

That's funny, I actually think Halo is one of the very few games out there with a recognizable and distinctive charisma to its single player, right up there with Gears and Bio, and even more so. Its gameplay, look, and the game in general, the unusually strong mix of excellent AI, scale, weapon balance and use of vehicles, not the least the level design which sets up the huge maps up as multiple multiplayer maps, music, sound, voice acting, all of which gives every battle and fight in the game a unique feel to it. Add to that 4 player coop, skull-mode, and an excellent Theater mode with replays and screenshot, and overarching net-integration and stat-tracking features. I respect your opinion, like the game or not, but you shouldn't really try to put a "generic" label on it, it would be undeserved - IMO.

Just finished the campaign on Legendary and enjoyed it quite a bit. Some levels sucked, I'm sure those of you who played the game know what I'm talking about but it was damn fun on co-op. It would be nice to play it with strangers though and not just friends. That was one of my biggest gripes as well as the ending. I can't imagine playing it on anything but Legendary, but I didn't try normal or heroic. By the way, the graphics in the campaign are amazing in 52inch HD glory. The game looks great.

My multiplayer gripe is what's up with achievements not unlocking? Kill Frenzy (10 kills in a row without dying) and no damn achievement? WTF? 5 melee kills in one game and no achievement? WTF? Why can't game devs get simple things like this right, at least it's not as bad as the Gears Seriously achievement not unlocking but still. I've yet to unlock a multiplayer achivement besides MVP and one of the ranking up achievements. Get on it bungie, I don't think I'll have another chance in hell of getting a kill frenzy in online multiplayer.

I definetely agree with you. The game just feels so refined, so polished gameplay-wise ( the exception here being the blandness of the human character-models and some corridors, which - after the initial 'letdown' - don't bother me anymore ).

stay on a safe distance and aim for the head. I usually stay far of and they don't even attack me , except if they get pissed just before they die.

Same here, with the exception that I die when they get pissed....
And I don´t know what the deal with the Arbyter is. He always gets killed before I could spell "believe", and only resurrects when I step over him. Of course I die the instant i do this.
Damn, I need someone for co-op help.

Started Legendary Co-Op with my roommate last night. Played through the first two levels. Pretty fun. The sniping Jackals are even more of a bitch on Legendary. I might say that they're the hardest part. We we're going to try to do the meta game this run but I think it'll be easier on Heroic since we'll be able to finish with hopefully a 3 or 2.5x multiplier.

I'm not enjoying it as much as I thought I would :(

Yeah, pretty much a case of been there done that. I'm a little shocked I'm not as worn out on the multi as I thought I'd be and I got a ton of hours from the campaign on legendary. The rest of my H3 time will now be spent on the multi.

Is anyone having Windows Live ID issues with bungie.net. Everytime I go there it tells me I have to log in, but I get an error and can't view anything on the page.

I haven't had a single problem with Bungie.net yet.

Strange thing, though. :o Hopefully you get it to work!

Well just for the hell of it I tried using IE this time (been using firefox) and it works.

That's exactly it, most Windows Live sites don't "like" Firefox. (insert eye roll here)

So here's what I've gotten accomplished thus far.

-Beaten the game on Legendary
-Gotten all the skulls
-Scored more than 15k on the first 2 levels.

Here's what I suck at.

-Multiplayer.

You bet. Hence why the VALIS is capitalized, 'cuz it's an acronym. :) There's quite a few PKD fans in the Off Topic section.

Delete your cookies for bungie.net and it should work again. I had this problem earlier.

It does interfere. Granted you're not getting shot at whilst these weird things happen, but it's still extremely annoying. You're on the way to the next area and for no good reason you completely freeze. It completely prevents the player from proceeding with normal gameplay, and further there is no way to skip it (unlike cutscenes) It's the very definition of interrupting gameplay.

If they simply had it as a voice over whilst you were playing, with no player freezing, no weird graphics, it would have been fine. I strongly object to having my game constantly interrupted in such an irritating fashion, and not being able to do anything about it.

Shouldn't that be 8.50x?????

Actually it should be 6.5, but for some reason it adds the difficulty multiplier to the skull bonus instead of multiplying it. The time bonus is done by multiplication.

It means that you can simply turn a huge amount of skulls on on Easy with little punishment; an easy way to get all the meta game achievements.

HAVE U GUYS SEEN THIS YET!!!!

On the bungie.net forums, they are talking about this brute in the room with all the halo rings, and aparently the brute goes up to and lands on the fifth halo ring, or hes under the ring, or hes on a roof, above the fifth halo ring, and he actually says "have u found it yet?".

heres the post:

weird.. i been following this post for awhile and decided to try the brute jetpack deal... and i found a brute on the roof of the room with the holo truths in it... 5 rings in from the start... and he is just runing into a wall... i used arbys head to jump on the roof btw... i tried to ride him around a stuff but its effin hard... anyways... the weird part is this... i got bored of try to ride him so i shot him up a bit and he flew of toward the middle rings and landed on one of em. and said (i -blam!- you not) "have you found it yet?" and "its up there". im still -blam!- around with this i havent done any weird triggers or anything just killed everything til now... and im trying to figger out what to do, any suggestions? im trying my damnedest to ride em. but when i get on his head he shoots me up. and when i see him about to take off my jump is too slow...

Got a question:

Is there no way to play the campaign on coop with total strangers? I only seem to be able to invite friends. The thing is, i havent got that many friends on my friendslist and playin with strangers seems like the only way for me to play the campaign on coop. (ala Gears of war)

I seriously hope that i'm overlooking something... if not, plz add me if you are interested in playing some coop with me. GT: Mr YuYu

same goes for custom and theater. Nowhere i see an option to join ohter people's game :-/

The way you can get into a co-op game with strangers is by doing matchmaking, then creating a party, then switching the lobby to campaign. Ya, it sucks, and I wish there was drop-in/out co-op like in Gears, but what can you do. Actually, do you want to play some co-op legendary?

My GT is: rastex

Beat it last night on normal. Yes I'm a noob. Gonna go through on the Legendary on co-op this weekend. Awesome game even played at this level. The only reason I did this was to avoid people randomly spoiling parts of the game before I got to it. Did I spoil it for myself? Not really. Its the only way I could beat the game before the weekend. You know, before the kids ruin Halo for everybody.

The only complaints for me happen to deal with multiplayer. Why can't I find random people to play with on co-op/custom games? Its not a deal breaker by any means. I just wish the option was there. It probally has something to do with net code. After watching the making of Halo, I have a new respect for what these guys do. Great job Bungie, can't wait for you guys next game.

Ugg.. Im trying to create my rocket arena knock off and it isnt working :(

In Halo 2 you could limit the number of players that would spawn at once createing 1 on 1 matchups with a list of people waiting in line to fight the survivor :(

Levels 4, 5 and 6 have really saved the campaign for me. Up until that point, I was really struggling to understand what all the hype was about. The first few missions, while somewhat entertaining in spots, just weren't doing it for me. I was tempted more than once just to head straight to MP and never touch the campaign ever again.

But once you get to the
scarab
battle... that's when everything "clicked" all at once. And the Ark might be one of the best levels I've ever experienced in the entire history of the genre.

So, for those who have just started playing and haven't been all that impressed, just stick with it. Chances are, your opinion will take a 180 like mine did.

Level
5
is probably the best looking environment i've played in (games i've played overall). Gorgeous, amazing art

im about to start level6 :)

Oh, and the cutscenes production is far, far better than Halo 2. Really well directed

I haven't beaten the game yet, but I just passed level 8 in co-op on legendary.

I don't see what the big deal is. The level was slightly annoying but nowhere near as bad as some people are making it out to be.

The game is awesome. Generic? No way. Too many awesome moments to even count.

The Ark is definitely my favorite level in the entire game. Not only is it beautiful, it has a very consistent amount of satisfaction. :D

I'd be curious to see how many players and what difficulty they are playing on. I mean if you play on co-op, normal of course the game is going to be dull, it's practically a tram ride at that difficulty.

That does not compute. :)

Then again, MP is all about two things: 1) headshots, and B) jumping. I, too, suck at both.

Also, MP has a lot to do with team communication and creative strategy (most efficient paths through levels, which weapon/vehicle to use when, etc.).

I thought is was just about putting bullets into your opponent :D

Am I the only one that really liked Level 8.

I didn't have much trouble navigating the environment, in fact I thought it was laid-out very well. Their were many ways to go through the environment, and it let you switch your play-style on the fly. You could go stealth and sneak through the little corridors, or go balls-out and try to beat the crap out of the flood. The shooting enemies weren't that big of a deal to me. Just make sure you have a long-range weapon, and a sword. Use your long-range weapon to make them recoil back into a ball, and then slice 'em and dice' em. It forced you to use a different tactic against the Flood, rather than shotty/melee. The only times I felt disoriented were times when I felt like it was done purposefully to make you realize how much you miss Cortana's help. Without an onboard AI like Cortana, you don't get your nav-points and help like you would. It felt like it was supposed to contrast with the escape part of the level with Cortana, because she updates your nav-points very frequently.

I absolutely loved the campaign, and never felt like I was playing filler. Every level had it's own unique flavor, but never strayed too far away from the Halo formula. The environments were beautiful from both an artistic and design stand-point. To me, this felt like the perfect finale to one of my favorite series in gaming.

I just played my first online game which was 4 player all v all in Basic Training.. I won easily but i havent completed basic training yet? Plus I killed 15 in a row without dying but didnt get the Killing Frenzy achievement?

The only thing I felt was missing from the levels was a good Covenant ship interior level. And if it's infested it doesn't count. I wanted some kind of throwback to T&R from Halo 1.

Must be ranked FFA.

I wasn't thinking the game was that hard on Legendary until the third level where
you have to survive the brute onslaught. Waves of brutes, some with fuel rod guns wearing the armor that can't be stuck with plasmas or spike grenades, along with the flying brutes, and a bunch of regular ones, all which need like 10 bursts of BR fire to take down, and then you've got to deal with a Wraith. Coupled with a seemingly random checkpoint system (it saved twice in like two minutes during this whole thing) it was the first time it really felt like Legendary difficulty.

Are there less checkpoints in Legendary? Also, is your name a reference to "Confidence Man 2?"

You have to play Basic Training more than once obviously to complete it. I got a higher rank after 5 games or so and the matching achievement.

so I bought the game yesterday, and played a couple of matches online in basic training.

i realized multiplayer is really really hard if you don't know the maps, in and out. i know you guys have all heard this before, but I wish there was an exact replica of Blood Gulch. That still remains my favorite multiplayer map of all time.
