Yeah it really is sad. She even says she'll miss him to no response. Then again there is more to the Chief. I refuse to believe he only rescued her for the Index. His character confuses me sometimes. Remember in Halo 1 in the escape pod that marine said he didn't want to die out there so MC gives him a reassuring pat on the shoulder? We don't see that side of him anymore. He also leaves Johnson in the control room wtf? What happened to leave no man behind? Especially Avery.

I still felt better than with no ending. It is depressing, but the series comes full circle.

Speaking of the ending after the credits
did anyone else find it really sad? While Cortana is talking to him, he puts his weapons away, gets in the chamber and flatly tells her to wake him when she needs to. It's like he feels as though he would have been better off dying. Leaving Cortana to float alone for maybe years, damn. Especially with all the shit she's been through. War was his only purpose, seems like he would rather sleep until the next one comes.
Really?
I thought it was oddly romantic. Floating through the abyss only to rise in her defense. Plus it's not like he's a computer, he'd age and die if not in cryo.

Before checking out the legendary ending I thought
that the ending would of been better off if MC just died off like that. Like, with his "Wake me when you need me" was stating the the world doesn't need a warrior like him anymore and because of that, he faded away. At least, that would of been the ending I would of enjoyed the most. But if they plan on making another game base on where 117 was heading (MARATHON REMAKE?) that would also be cool. I really want to see how he dies. I want to see the end to his story.

Quick question. Will the skulls only spawn if I play from the start of the level or can I jump to rally point alpha or bravo to get them?

I got the sense with the post-credit ending that
MC went right to the most-efficient route, getting to sleep without delay since there was no choice and he's been through physical hell already. The emphasis in his tone seemed to be "when YOU need me", emphasizing he was there for her primarily. The dynamic of their bond still has plenty of space to develop when he is awoken, still lots of stuff barely touched upon relative to the books.
.

Signed up for the Bungie group. Looking forward to seeing everybody online.

So now is there some way I can access this group from within the game? Too many features to keep track of. I just read about campaign scoring and skulls for the first time and I've already sunk over a dozen hours into the campaign and matchmaking!

This theory came from looking through the game's files in a hex editor. They found the item name skull_daddy on the
Covenant level
. Then, they found that, in particular, in the room with the rings, each one has a specific name, and there is a event called, "skull_ring_song," which is believed to be the tone that plays when you jump through the rings in the correct order. Immediately following that even marker, it says, "award daddy skull." Who knows, though. It's all speculation now.

I hope this pans out. At least it will be easier than Halo 2's IWHBYD.

That's a good point.

I have a few nagging multiplayer questions that could use some answers.

1. So you can save film clips, and save them to one of your six slots that can also be downloaded from Bungie's website. However, Is there a way to save the film clips on your PC, so you can free up those slots with new film clips? This is very important.

2. There's a fast forward button, but not a rewind button. Why?

3. Exactly how much exp do you lose if you quit a ranked game? There's been a couple of situations where quitting was necessary for me, but I had to grin in bear it due to the exp loss. One involved half my team quitting before the match started, the other had me stuck in a wall while avoiding gunfire.

4. How exactly do you join custom games? Do you have to be invited by someone, even though the Public Open option is displayed? I finally got to try Infection yesterday, but only when someone invited me. There needs to be a search option for custom games.

5. There's been quite a few moments where it looks like my opponent is a good distance away, but he suddenly zooms right in front of me and melees me to death. People told me this is the result of pushing the trigger button down at the right moment, giving you an extra boost forward. Could you explain how this works?

6. Does shooting at certain parts of the opponent's body do more damage, besides the head?

No. The saved clips are actually saved game data which then gets replayed when you view the Clip. This allows you to rotate and zoom in/out and do all the stuff you do. They are not saved "movie" clips. I would like Bungie to in the future provide a service to convert the saved data into a movie clip.

I beleive it might be a limitation of the having to "rewind" game data. But such a feature would be great

1) Flim clips cannot be downloaded to a PC. I'm pretty sure you could save them to your Xbox's hard drive though to make room for more.

2) No rewind in campaign, only in MP

3) not sure, in the beta it was about 1.5x the exp for winning

4) yea there's a slight lunge to the melee. Try playing around in social playlists to get the timing.

You can rewind, here's how:

You can only rewind in films that are saved in your library (as opposed to the 'recent games' films). Save a film to your library by hitting x from the theater menu.

When you are viewing a film saved in your library, hit left on the d-pad to rewind. I think it goes 5 or 10 seconds back with each d-pad press.

ugh I didn't let the terminals go all the way through

i have to find them again

Does finding them do something? I thought it was just an easter egg story bonus...?

Didn't see the actual report but I was watching MSNBC and the lead up to Halo 3 making 170 mill. also stated that "it's also reported that consoles are being sold at a record pace." Is there any offical info about the console sales because of Halo 3 ? I'm a dirty Sales Age whore.:lol

That's the first I've heard it reported in the news. I've seen anecdotal reports that 360's were selling well, or selling out, at stores but I don't put much stock in those. I wonder if their source was also anecdotal.

People waiting in line to buy xbox 360s at midnight is a tad bit out of the ordinary though.

Yeah , I was at lunch and it was on the TV in the cafeteria. It aired as a lead up as they were about to go to commercial and I was about to go to my cube. It really did sound like they got the hardware info new as it was thrown in at the and of the leadup " Halo 3 many millions blah blah...aannndd it's also being reported that Xbox 360's are being sold at a record pace." Anecdotal to the Nth degree if they called the local Best Buy.

I started TheStorm from the beginning on Normal and for some reason the skull isn't where it is supposed to be. What gives?

Is this the one where it disappears if you destroy the wraiths?

Oooh, what's this IWHBYD skull people are talking about? What do the letters stand for?
Also, I played on Legendary. What's the difference in the Terminals for those that played on a lower difficulty?

So, I'm on level 6. I'm going to hurry up though, I feel so left out of all these multiplayer games and ending discussions. NO ONE UNDERSTANDS ME! LEAVE ME ALONE! [/teenage angst]

It stands for "I would have been your daddy" which is a reference to a chapter in Halo 1.

In halo 2 it made the say funny things, no one has found it in halo 3 to confirm.

All right! I got 805 single player achievement points. Now to get online and get some more...

...well, later. :D

Anecdotally it sure seems they are selling better. The BestBuy around the corner from my office is nearly sold out. I stopped in to pickup some networking stuff at lunch and they have 2 premiums, 3 elites and about 5 special edition 360's left. I myself have picked up 2 this past week. One for the office and one to restore TV to our bedroom.

Cable from our basement to bedroom is damaged and cant get any sort of reception. So it is cheaper to add a 360 and use the Media Center capabilities through the network then to re-run from the distribution panel in the basement through the walls, to the bedroom and then patch up the drywall and repaint when done.

Also surprised me that they are still selling Halo 3 out of the boxes they were shipped in. Rather than just put them in the displays they have a rolling rack with cardboard shipping boxes just cut opened.

That would be helpful, even though I only have 20gb. How do you save it to your hard drive?

Also, finally finished the game, a few thoughts
(end game spoilarz)
After playing level 9 I decided it's not the flood that sucks, it's the level design of 8. in 5 and 9 the flood are amazing to fight. Especially when you have to hold the door to the control room. When you have a mix of Pure forms, backing up an army of combat forms it gets really intense. I was also fun to set up the auto turrets, and strategically use a regen, invuln and other eq to survive.

Final warthog run was just awesome. I can't think of a better way to end the game.

Some small complaints

Some times the game almost channeled Halo 1 too closely. The control room, and landing in the 7th level nodded so hard to the first game it almost hurt.

I kind of wish the sandbox had been opened up earlier in the game. You don't see maulers or flame nades till the last three levels of the game, which is kind of sad. Also, NEEDS MOAR LAZR :(.

Speaking of which, the drop in grenades held is great for MP, but in SP it didn't work out so well IMO. Grenades felt like the weak leg in the tripod this time around :(. Also, my fav nade in the beta didn't work well with the SP game. Spike nades are basically just for sticks it seems, whereas it was the shit kicker indoors in the beta. Maybe in Legendary you get some more, but I dunno.

Level 8 wasn't well designed. The huge number of Pure form flood slowed the pace to a painful crawl, and the level design prevented taking many interesting angles on the fights. The escape sequence redeemed the level partially though, that was awesome.

I was hoping we weren't forerunner, but there would be a deeper connection between them, some reason they CHOSE earth and us, not just that "we are."

there are more answers in this game to be found I'm sure, we've just scratched the surface to halo 3's plot, so hopefully some of the confusing things will be clarified.

I'm half way (or more than half way) through the regular campaign in 2 player co-op mode and I need some help.
Can someone tell me where I need to get excited or awesomed out? Right now it's more like a chore as we run around scrounging for the right gun and some more ammo. The parts with the vehicles are interesting because they're a break from the normal walking around, but still I feel like I'm missing out on all the fun. Is there something I should do or turn off in my brain for me to get really hyped while playing this? I should be having fun but I'm not...

PS:
I'm at the part where you just shut down the three generators around the control room on the Ark and some Flood guys just came through a warpgate and crashed into the surface

Oh yeah I got the same feeling. I had to explain to my co-op partner that we basically played the opening sequence of
Halo 1 when you crash landed on the planet and started taking care of business
I remember where it got to a point where I was calling out the pathing before we even got there

Just finished the fight and I have to echo the sentiments of others here that
LEVEL 8 SUCKS
.

and I hated the part where
Sergeant Jonson dies
.
He survived the first Halo explosion yet can't survive the monitor's beam? While we're on that subject, was it ever revealed how he survived the first ring's explosion?

I have all the gold skulls now and found a silver one on Sierra 117. Now I have to find the rest of the silvers and my skull hunt can be done!
