It would suck for high skill people who want to play against tough opponents when you waltz in looking like a scrub.
I doubt it. The e-penis system is such that anybody is happy to pad their score with a scrub.

What would have been so difficult about letting people set up truly public games? Or how about letting them set preferences ("I want only THESE maps, only THESE gametypes")?

The Halo 2 system was riddled with cheaters and downrankers, so I'm not sure why we're pretending that this skill-matching system is so flawless in the first place.

Halo 3 can't find my file share anymore. It keeps trying to contact to the server.
Didn't have this problem a couple of hours ago, all stats of campaign are uploaded. Did xbox live test and everything is ok, NAT is open too. Also saved 2 screenshots but they aren't uploaded to bungie.net

If the strangers Search for the gametype of their choice they will find it and make NEW friends. I just think i there should be an option atleast. You should not be FORCED to use matchmaking if you dont want to.

I really like the party system but the option for your own cusom search should have been there.

Almost everyone on my xbox friends list I met in Halo 2 matchmaking. You can make friends there too. I thought the same thing you do before halo 2, but actually playing in matchmaking totally changed my mind. Give it a shot.

Ummm, .... What?

EDIT: Stealth edit me why don't you!

I still don't think they're gimped. Have you seen halo's community, it's pretty terrible. It would end up with you creating an awesome gametype, 7 other kids joining your game yelling racial slurs while they team killed and played loud rap music in the background.

Forge and Co-op is more fun with friends, not strangers.

Yea, but I'll never get a 16 man custom gaming, Or even an 8 man game. I have 20 friends playing this game at any one time, and that's only going to shrink after Mass Effect, CoD4, etc. Those guys are already busy doing their own thing, they won't necessarily drop everything to get into my game.

And no random co-op is pointless, might as well use friend codes. Gears already showed Bungie how to do this. I'm lucky that my girlfriend plays and I have a close friend with a brother who plays a lot and will plan sessions with me otherwise a friends list is too hectic to get a 4 man co op or a large Forge experience going.

If my friends list is meant to stand in for a decent gamemaking system then I should have more than 100 possible friends, or supplemental friend lists on a game by game basis.

Ok So I beat the game on Heroic, but the last mission on Legendary. Do you only need the last mission on Legendary to watch the extended ending, or you have to do the whole game in Legendary? I have only watched the ending once so I dont know. Great ending though. Just when I thought Bungie dropped the ball, they come up with that stuff. Truly FULL CIRCLE. Also,
whats the last planet that shows up at the ending, the one with the blue sun and that looks all techy and stuff?

Did you get the Legendary achievement for this?

Wait. Wasn't it the same in H2?
I used to play by Xboxconnect, and today I know that I don't have to regret it at all.

And ? It's a reason to not improve a game ?
For what I am noting, 75% of my friends are really pissed about it. Only 25% from them played Halo 2.

Now for me the situation is clear, H2 was the only great multiplayer game on Xbox. On X360 there is plenty great multiplayer, and more to come. I really believe and fear that my friends will quickly come a conclusion: they will spend their time on another multiplayer game(s).

But really.... why the push-to-talk system ? Where are the fucking advantages ??

Yes this is how all Halo games are. It's not an oversight. It's used to balance players skill and is a part of the matchmaking process.
But it's the same on social match ! Not only ranked match !

I don't believe that people find it normal to not have the choice...
PepsimanVsJoe said:
It should be noted that by public it means that you can invite friends or recent players to your game. You can't simply start up a custom game and then it appears on a list somewhere where others can join in.
Yeah, people don't want to understand it.... Incredible..

The multiplayer is fine. It rocked in Halo 2, it will rock better in Halo 3.
Halo 2 was alone on Xbox (well, not totally, but the others were pretty insignificant).
On X360 the situation is totally different.

Hmm, seems more like Bungie servers are being flooded atm. It works sometimes.
They're getting hammered today - lots of things are acting wonky at the moment. It'll probably settle down in a few days. *crosses fingers*

Am I the only one that liked the 2nd to last level in the game? Once you find the
flamethrower
it's awesome. I liked the
interruptions from Gravemind and Cortana too, it's a very moody level.
Overall I loved the campaign. I do wish I had rockets or the spartan laser a little more often. I can only remember finding both twice at most.

Yea, there should be gametype selection in Social matches, no excuse for that. Or at least make it so every map and gametype is equally represented.

It sucks to play a dozen long ass one-side VIP matches and then get a single 50 second oddball game.

For the theater mode in saved filsm (which is awesome), how do you tell the film to move backwards instead of just speeding it forward? I try to bring up the theater menu, but the backwards button is greyed out.

Can't rewind in a Campaign saved film, just MP.

Canadians with 24 hours daily paper, don't read the Halo 3 review. There's a spoiler in the freakin picture caption. Ugh. I only finished the first level too.

This was the Vancouver one, not sure if the rest of the cities have the same review or not.

Doesn't work with campain (due to streaming stuff, MP is entirely loaded into memory)

so yesterday I was getting into matchmaking games in just a couple minutes at most, but today I'm waiting 10-15 minutes and still not getting into games. Is there any trick to it or is something wrong with my xbox?

Just a fluke I'd say, I always get fast matches. No longer than a minute or two at the worst.

I was confused as to where I was going at times but on the whole I thought it was fine. I don't know what all the hate is about.

The second-to-last level is pretty crap -- mainly because you need close-quarters weapons to deal with the enemies, but you are consistently pitted against a bunch of long-range peashooter dudes that will slowly wipe away your shields.

This is the real problem, yea.

I almost finished last night mission 7. With regards to that:
Holy crap! Two scarabs with ghosts and banshees were the cause of massive death numbers. I'm playing it on Heroic, but I can't imagine beating this playing solo on Legendary. Must be really challenging. Not to mention the corridor section that follows afterward is tough as hell too (I'm still in that section).

Everyone, and I mean everyone, change your stick sensitivity to 5, stat.

3 is close to unplayable. God knows who decided it should be that.
Mine is on 9.

Also tinkered with Theater mode. Watched some campaign footage and it's very cool. So much stuff happens in just a few seconds. Very addicting.

My was default to 8.
I think your 360 settings determine it...

I play with 5 sensitivity too. I'm interested in what other people use, especially those proficient in multiplayer. 8 or 9 is really a bit too high for me, but I can imagine that those guys use the max settings.

TemplaerDude said:
the stick sensitivity goes up to 10 right?

i'm playing this on friday and i have trouble playing games that aren't super sensitive.
o_O

Maybe it's different for my TV, but 3 was fine for me. (I like to snipe) This is on a 62" 1080p set. But I guess i'll give it another try to improve my chances in MP.

I use a low setting, probably at 3 right now. My aiming is crap if I don't leave it down low like that. I know people that are very good players using low settings and some that are great with high settings - seems like it's just a matter of personal preference to some extent.

Did anyone else notice Talladega nights references? I've heard a couple lines from the movie coming from Marine's during my play-through.

Yeah, I'm around 3 as well. I usually incrementally increase it as I get better.

Most of the big ones use max. I'm average but ever since Halo 1 I decided to put it on 8 or 9 so I get used to it.

I'm pretty sure most of the "pros" hang around the 5-7 mark.

Halo 3 feels a lot heavier than Halo 2, so 5 isn't really cutting it for me. I may move to 7.

Can I ask a really, really, REALLY noob question, even though I'm not a noob?

I have ALWAYS played Rumble Pit, never any ranked matches. Last night, my son and I played some ranked Team Slayer, and I played better than I EVER have before.

So. What the heck is really the difference? If ranked matches and unranked games still pit you against people of your general skill level, what's the 'advantage' of one over the other, unless you're just trying to pump up your rank?

Thanks!

A couple random questions:

System Link Co-Op -- is it possible?

Do the Brutes' Shields/Energy regenerate in any fashion? Can't really tell when playing in Normal. Obviously they don't get their armor back once it's off, but if you shoot one a bit and then leave it alone will he go back to 100% health?

I might be wrong here, but isn't turning a lot slower with lower sensitivity? I only played a few games of Halo 2, but when I used low settings and some guy shot me in the back, I was already dead before I could see him.

I hope I never have to play on Epitaph again

You're not alone on that. I called it from day one. I could tell I wouldn't like that map.

The theme of that map is how many different ways can you get shot in the back.
