So what can I do about the overly quiet weapon volume? I'm playing on a shit TV and have nothing fancy as far as sound goes, but still this isn't a problem in other games :(
 
Has anyone unlocked the metagame score achievements yet? I'm curious if there are restrictions on how it has to be done. Obviously, you have to turn on campaign scoring, but is there anything beyond that? Does it matter if you're in FFA or Team based scoring? Do you have to do it alone, or can you co-op it? A couple of my friends have scores that were high enough, so they're trying to figure out why they didn't get the achievements. Thanks!

The best thing you'll see today: John P. Harvard goes Halo

As you may already know, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has a long history of pranking (or hacks, as they call them) both on their own campus and at other schools. Though there have been some real winners over the years, this new one, captured today by MIT newspaper The Tech, really takes the cake.

To mark the Halo 3 release, MIT students gifted the John P. Harvard statue in Harvard Yard with a Spartan helmet (with "Master Chief in Training" written on the back) and an assault rifle. All we can say is "Wow." We may not be able to talk to MIT students very long at parties without getting sleepy, but when it comes to pranks, it's clear that we all speak the same language: Nerd.

Since I don't have a 360 at the moment and cannot play this gem, how is the level variety? One thing I liked about Halo 2 more than the first one was the variety in level design and pacing.
 
I've been on media blackout, so until I booted the game last night, I hadn't seen in-game footage. I must say, I'm impressed by the simple fact that the world isn't made of plastic or coated in clear slime. Maybe that makes it "last-gen", but it looks damn good to me.

Don't know what's up with the weapons being so quiet, guess I'll get used to it. I like the new weapons I've seen so far. The facial animations of people talking is awful, looks like there are (a lot of) frames of animation missing. Anyone else see that? You never know on a 360, although mine only tends to have texture loading issues sometimes (Bioshock, Gears).

I have a LAN Co-op run planned for Saturday with two friends. It's going to be a great weekend!

Think of it as the best of Halo 1 and 2 put into one.

Of what I've played so far: very good. Even better than Halo 2. I never once had the familiar corridor feeling or a sense of disorientation because everything looks samey. It's really the biggest plus in the campaign so far.

I really really hope the rest of the game is not like the second chapter. why the hell do we still have backtracking and cut and paste levels?


anyways best part about the game so far is playing co-op and then watching 2 of your friends go flying because a brute jumped out nowhere and nailed them with a grav hammer.

How do Skulls physically work when you get them? Do you have to carry it to the end of the level and then it's available forever? Can you just pull a menu up when you get it and then save it so you can switch out to another weapon? Do its effects start the moment you pick it up upon first finding it?
 
WTF is this shit with the communication system ??

It's still the same retarded system of the beta, didn't Stinkles said it would have improvements, and even a traditional system if we wanted since so much people complained about it ?

Now most of the news guy that bought the game to play with me are complaining about it.


Please tell me that there is a ultra hidden option that i didn't notice.

Nope, just pick it up and the feature is available in the menu. You do have to quit the current game, though.

It's not push to talk, if that's what you mean.
 
I can't get past the first level, Bravo mission part. It freezes right after I clear the bridge and then my save corrupts :( If i try to reload it on any previous checkpoint i get a disc read error. /sigh

My little brother and I played last night with this in mind. Each player has to score the 15K (or whatever the achievement is). It doesn't matter if it's FFA based or Team based scoring, as long as your individual score is the right amount. Use skulls!

No, only can select the matchmaking playlist types or you can make your own custom game and invite friends.
 
About the skulls: how hard are they to find? I'm playing the game casually and I'm not looking out for them per sé, but in my next run I'll try to find them all. Do you have to comb every nook and cranny of the level?

Pretty much. Just use the guides that are already out there (just keep googling "halo 3 skulls" or whatever)

edit: unless in the playtypes is their a type that only includes CTF ?

banging on the locked door trying to get in but the marine on the other side being a dick and thinking hes being held by brutes?

To the best of my knowledge it is not push-to-talk team communication for 5v5 or less but it is push-to-talk team communication for 6v6 or higher.

And I think that sucks.

You are correct, when you pick up the skull that's it, you have it and it's recorded as being found and you can use it for later meta-campaign scoring purposes etc.

Yeah I'm really annoyed with the lack of this feature. I still haven't played a coop game since I can't just bring up a list and join one. I have to get an invite or invite people to mine(and that just isn't happening I'm afraid).

no, thats what we wanted but apparently it would take people away from matchmaking.

yeh i hate it. it seems like for every playlist theres only a limited number of maps and gametypes, kinda annoying. team slayer ive only played narrows, high ground, pit, and snowbound. never get any other maps. isolation once i think and never got construct in team slayer.

bungie just release the dlc right now, i'll gladly pay an additional 10 to 20 bucks for some more maps.

Yeah, that's getting very annoying. I know that matchmaking works itself out though if you give it a day or two, so hopefully it will get better soon.

Also, I didn't know that anything about 6v6 is push to talk, that's pretty dumb if true.
 
to get a skull do you need to start the level from the beginning?

I have got one skull near the beginning of a level, but there are two others that are not there when I reach them via the checkpoint (or rally point bravo or whichever). Am I supposed to get there from the proper starting point?

1h13min, heroic, 42 deaths! (love stats!)

You know, difficult Halo battles are almost like puzzles. It's also very unpredictable and those brutes come from everywhere.
Taking out wraiths is cool too.

It's just how Halo matchmaking works. Custom games are your solution but you'll need to build up a friends list/recent players list to get the most out of it.

I think it makes sense so I don't have to hear 5 other people's dogs barking or talking to their friends. If they have something important to say, they'll press up on the d-pad.

Thanks. I think the problem was that they needed 50,000 points and they thought they only needed 15,000. :lol

I remember reading that to get the skull you have to start from the beginning of the level.

Yeah of the little time I played Halo 2 mp that was the one thing I was amazed by, and I thought they'd add it to 3 for sure, but apparently not.
