Okay got this game at midnight UK time and played it start to finish and completed it around an hour and a bit ago! Fantastic game! :D

Although I some how skipped the credits and missed the part at the end is there anyway for me to watch it again? :'(

I too missed the end credits....somehow. I got that message from Bungie, and it stayed there for awhile so I decided to press A....I guess I shouldn't have?

Oh well, I'm playing through it on Legendary right now so I'll definitely watch it then.

Yeah, so I can't believe that when 2 or more people are on the same Xbox (for both co-op and online multiplayer), that there's no widescreen.

Freaking unreal. Totally disappointed. They better fix that REAL quick because I really only play with my fiancee at the same time on our Xbox and with friends online.

?

It's to preserve the aspect ratio and field of view. Would you rather have the horrid vertical split like in H2 and other games? It works great.

The black bars are there because the image is being scaled to retain the full viewable area at 16:9 for both players. It's much better that way then a horizontal or vertical half which you lose a ton of perspective, IMO.

Edit: st00pid giga

Enjoying the game so far.. however...

WTF with the split screen?!!

Why is it not widescreen??? I dont see any option to change this.... GRRR

The music in Halo 3 is effing amazing. Good job.

Sincerely,
omg.kittens

PS: Shotty Snipers sucks. Please make it less frequent. Thank you.

edit: lol @ above

I'm confused. It is widescreen--huge widescreen to be exact.

Is the game supposed to be this quiet? I just finished the first level and it had to be the most silent FPS I've ever played. No shaking subs, all weapon sounds were pretty low-key and quiet, and the music was just in the background when it existed. Basically felt like I was playing it on mute outside the voices. Very odd...

Started messing with the file share, theater and screenshot stuff....pretty awesome stuff. Gonna post some screens as soon as I figure out how.

It's that way for most of us I believe... :(

Not for me.. two player split screen... there are bars on each side like its shrunk, not wide screen..
You have to take note that you're playing on a 16:9 screen. (1.77:1 aspect ratio) When you split the screen in half horizontally, you have to adjust the aspect ratio and FOV accordingly. The black bars to the side aren't "wasted space" as each split screen is widescreen, your eyes are just deceiving you that it's not widescreen. (2.7:1 according to joystik--which is even more than an anamorphic WS movie)

Halo 2 yuk:

Halo 3 <3 :

This screen shows the top player with the 2.7:1 AR, and the bottom two at the original 1.77:1 AR. (3 player split screen)

I was thinking that myself.

Ah, thanks for that. It just looked wierd, plus my tv is only 32 inch so its small split screen and even smaller the way it works in Halo 3 as you explained.

How long does it take for your screenshots to appear on Bungie.net?
It's usually instantaneous, but the entire Live service is having problems right now.

Guess you can't hotlink from Bungie - here's what I came up with spending a few minutes watching a video (click for hi-res):

Seems like a lot of us have that problem.

I was just thinking about the single player game, why is it that
the brute shot
appears so often? a lot of other weapons are just not there, but it is everywhere.

~20 hours after beating single player, I think it's time to share some impressions.

First things first, I beat the game co-op, on normal, with 4 players for about 1/3 of the game and 3 players for the rest. It took under 5 hours. I'm sure it would have been more exciting on legendary with campaign scoring, but that's for another time. I just wanted to finish the single player right away so I could go into MP, which is going to take up the majority of my time with this game.

I thought the campaign was enjoyable. My biggest complaint was that there really wasn't any gigantic, epic battle that blew me away. There were plenty of enjoyable parts, but nothing truly memorable imo. Again... i'm sure if i didn't blow through the game I would feel more positively. However, I will say that
the flood were much better implemented into this game. They were much more interesting to fight and less annoying
. Also, there's a pretty great variety in level design which was nice.

Ah... multiplayer. My first match ran extremely smoothly, but after that I experienced some of the worst lag I've ever seen. After several matches with terrible latency, I unplugged my 360 from my shitty router and have been running it straight out of the wall since. Anyway, long story short, I finally got the game running smoothly (with the exception of some lag-infested games)... and my $70 purchase was instantly justified. Game is amazing. I still haven't even played on all the maps yet, but the only gripe i've had with multiplayer so far is lag...which is a combination of my shitty connection and launch madness.

I wish people would stop vetoing every gametype that's not team slayer. Oddball, King of the Hill, etc are a lot of fun on FFA. Also, what's with the hate for shotty snipers? I love that shit.

I found that exploring the levels thoroughly tended to yield some of the more "rare" weaponry.

About what I expected, poor. Maybe I was soured by the unplayable co-op but I should have avoided even my own hype from the beta.

And yeah, the graphics haven't really changed from the beta. I am not "gears of what"ing.

WTF!!!?? I'm going to say that again: WTF!!!??

You definitely need to play it on legendary, I guess.

Oh, I will. What part of the game are you referring to, though? I'd like to see an example where, on legendary, the battle has a really incredible, grandiose scale. Something to look forward to.

heh... i didint want to post in this thread until i got the game.

halo 3 is a drug... i spent 7 hours beating the game and racked up about 420 achievement points in the process. by the time i got to te multiplayer i was so burnt out... but i realized i still got it from halo 2 because im serving people left and right.

damn it felt good to be back in halo.

Hmmm. I'd suggest you go through Legendary by yourself and re-evaluate your thoughts. ;)

Probably because the human sniper feels so different for a lot of people, and the slow speed with which you can whip out a shotgun and blast someone. It just feels awkward with the weapons in their current state. You feel silly running around with a shotgun against snipers, but you can't switch to it (shotgun) in any resonable amount of time for it to be effective if someone gets the drop on you. It just doesn't play right to me.

Double scarabs plus ten banshees plus numerous brutes plus hornets plus Scorpions plus Warthogs plus Pelicans all going at it?

I thought that was pretty epic. Halo 3 easily has the largest battles of any FPS game...and Legendary only amplifies that.

I'm around 8 hours in solo right now and I'm REALLY enjoying it. I never played the Halo 1/2 campaign modes, but this is the best FPS experience I've played on a console- there are so many "wow" moments. I always thought Halo was really overhyped, but I'm a PC gamer and even I think this is great.

Anyone care to explain the first two games for me so I can understand what's going on better?

Once again, for screen shots to apear on Bnet you first have to have used your file share at least once. If you havent your screenshots will not appear on Bnet automatically. Once you have used your file share once though they will always appear almost instantaneously on Bnet.

So everyone complaining about the length of the game needs to play SOLO/HEROIC. Level 6 and 7 have taken me around 2 hrs each to complete - thats with some mild skull searching where I found one skull on each of those levels.

But seriously, I played level 1 thru 5 4 player co-op and you literally build up so much momentum that you take at least a quarter of the time to complete each level IMO.

Absolutely love the campaign so far. Perfect length too.

That's what I was talking about. Nigh unplayable. Croppage = much better.
Totally unplayable. I get sick just looking at it now. What was it? 1.1:1 ratio? :x

And I wouldn't say it's cropped either--you're either getting a wider viewing angle or the original when in split screen.

Win-Win-Win.

Why you spend $60 on something you expected to be poor?

Fuck this god damn legendary scratches edition.

I got all the way to the part where,
the arc fires
and then the fucking 360 says, "CLEAN YOUR DISC LOL" and goes back to the main screen. When I reload the game apparently it hadn't saved my progress at all since I hadn't actually "save and quit".

God fucking damnit I have to start the whole fucking game over again.

And to top it off I don't even know if it's just going to die there every time!

Yea shotty snipers is shit, I swear to god they ruined my fav game mode (team slayer) with that shit.

Edit: overall halo 3 is defintely better then halo 2, it's very good :)
