I dropped my rifle in the stream to fool around with the plasma pistol and my rifle wasn't wear I dropped it. I was already to blame Bungie for my "disappearing" weapon. Well, it took me a bit to figure out that the stream current carried my rifle a bit downstream. Nice liitle touch. Opening scene is mindblowing graphically, The lighting in it is just awesome.
 
What a load of shit, I just picked up the game and it prompted me to update my XBox. So I select yes, and it attempts to download for a split second, then shows an error message saying that it can't download my update and to test my connection to my System.

So I test my network connection and it resolves everything: it's wired, IP address confirmed, DNS confirmed, MTU confirmed, ICMP confirmed. Then when it gets to the XBOX LIVE portion, it prompts me to download the update. I select yes and I get the same error message again. If I click no, it fails.

Has anyone run into this before? Live was working just fine a few days ago...

edit: nm, I just read the thread. hope it clears up for me soon.

ugh, the quality of the "hi-res remastered" cutscenes is complete SHIT. another reason to not buy the LE. too late now though. fuck you Bungie. :(

By the way, I loved your bit in the machinima on the DVD. I don't know whose idea it was to have you doing what you were doing when the other characters found you, but it was extremely funny. And your lines were awesome.
 
So I haven't read through the whole thread so I'm sure this has been discussed but, a few questions. I've finished the game, just need some clarity on a few things.

- 343 Guilty Spark mentions to Master Chief that he is the child of a Forerunner, or that he is a Forerunner. Is that to be taken literally? Humans were the Forerunners? Seems a little odd that it gets little attention.
- What do the Terminals actually show? I only found one my first play through and I wasn't really paying attention.

What is the fastest way to gain EXP? Just playing matches? Do I only get them when I win? do I get them for double kills?
 
My brothers, roommate, and I just finished the game. 4-player co-op, Legendary.......freaking awesome. That was one of the most satisfying gaming experiences ever. The set pieces are so epic, and the next set piece trumps the last. It keeps getting better and better. I'm SOOO glad Bungie went back to their roots. I can't say enough about this game. Even for the amount of times we died in each mission, I didn't mind because the game is so much fun and playing the level over was totally fine.

IMO, one of the best things about Halo 3 besides the gameplay is the cinematics. The animation, polish, camera angles, everything was so fluid and perfect. I wish after beating the game, you could just go back and watch the cinematics.

The ending was totally perfect, I applaud you, Bungie. You guys did such an amazing job

I have a question
The ending after the credits had me REALLY excited, but I want to know what other people think it means. When I saw the ending, I assume that Master Chief is floating towards Onyx where the rest of his spartan teammates are, in the Dyson Sphere. What do you guys think?

Yeah i watched it yesterday unaware what was about to happen. To say i was pissed is a understatement, i dont get halo till today and have been on spoiler alert for weeks now. So 24 hours before i finally get the game this cock on gizmodo goes and spoils the fucking end. I wont ever be going back to that site they could have put spoiler in the title or something. So he gets back at a few fanbois who will have finished the game by then by spoiling it for everyone nice move idot.

I agree, the quality of the cinematics were really bad. The halo 2 ones were crisper than halo 1, which were pretty awful. The only redeeming factors is the really interesting and amusing commentary by Marty, Jason, and Joseph.
 
Problem: 2-player offline co-op on a widescreen display is giving me a horizontal split across a 4:3 image -- the sides aren't being used. I can't find a setting within the console settings or the game's settings to correct this.

Isn't it also possible to have a vertical split a la Warhawk?

Seriously, I have been gushing the statement "WOW", ever since I began playing. It is truly an amazing experience. This is the Halo game I have always wanted.

My live subscription ran out this week, so of course, to play Halo, I need a new one.

So I buy one, and plug in the code.

It says it's invalid.

So I call up MS.

The card reader thingies are down. Everything else is up BUT THEM.

So my buddies are all playing Halo 3, and I'm not.

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

Have you tried using the free 48 hours of live that come with the game?
Or isn't Live Gold free for the next couple of days or something?

yep you should be good for 3 or so days, but live was down until a few minutes ago.

OK, just did a test, disconnected my 360 from the network, and ta-da! I can watch films. So it's something to do with my Xbox.com settings for sure. Hopefully when I wake up in the morning, Xbox.com will be up, I'll make some changes, and I can actually record matches and such.

Yeah, I'm a huge Halo fan, of its story mostly, and even I must say, it took two fuckin' games but they have created THE Halo game I've been wanting to play!

Just got done with
the first encounter with the flood. Holy shit! They are even tougher then in part 2. Also liked that new flood enemy that transforms into a big ass mofo!

This game is just kicking my ass! Played on heroic last night and got stuck on the second stage
(2nd encounter, area where you face off against a shit load of Brutes)
. Finished it today with some help from my friend. Game is brutal and I can tell the marked improvement with the AI. They seem to work as a unit better then the last one. Great job Bungie!

Oh and the cinematics, though not mind blowing, is just topped notched(dialog, camera, and voice acting). It really feels like Im in a desperate war.

No. It's not my set-up. Every movie/game I play/watch on my current set-up sounds perfectly fine. It's this particular game that is the problem.

I'm getting the same thing. I haven't found the option yet.
 
Did we find a fix for the game forcing you into 4:3 during co-op? It is currently doing that to me over VGA. Would component fix it? TV only goes to 1080i.

Currently unplayable.

I second this. I hear about the problem and screwed around with the sound enough that it has to be the game. Even with headphones theres hardly anything to be heard.

I just beat the game in single player, I didnt enjoy it too much...

great first half of the game, but the second half was pretty bad.

will play again in coop eventually.
 
This. Game. Is. Awesome.

First time playing a Halo game through on Heroic (I've played through the Halo games countless times, just not on Heroic or Legendary although it's on my to-do list as far as 1 and 2 are concerned, and 3 but I'm kind of doing it now) and I'm on the fourth level now. It's pretty intense, hard, but fair. It's really great.

There are times when I have no idea how I'll get past it, but then I pull out something crazy that works, the feeling of accomplishment is really great.
 
There is no option to fix the crappy cropped split they have for two players on a widescreen. They didn't include a vertical split. I hope to god they fix this in an update, it's a terrible design choice.
 
I think I'm going to dive into Campaign Scoring now, I think it is going to suck the most time away from my life.

My goal is try to find all the skulls on my own. However, I have a feeling this is going to take me awhile. :(

QFT! I was using the theater playback and just watched from a distance at how massive the levels are. Its insane that so many things are going on in the battlefield- including stuff happening in the background- with absolutely minimal slowdown. I've never seen a game engine perform this well, ever.

Edit: Also, the level of detail is mind boggling. I was at the
scarab encounter
and I zoomed in on the ships flying overhead. I was able to read every single sticker that was on it. I can even see the faces of the pilots on some ships.

Me and my buddy tried split screen MP and he wouldn't leave me alone about the issue. I told him I had no idea...and I still, have no idea.
