The Best Buy launch was in-fucking-sane. There was over an hour to go when I left, but the estimate was at over 700 people in line. It wrapped around the front of the store, all of the way to the back and then down and around the parking lot. Got to meet Luke again, and Brian (Sketch).
Crazy highlight of the day: when our bus pulled up to the front of the store, the crowd thought we were Bungie. And we didn't do anything to make them think otherwise: the crowd went apeshit, we were throwing t-shirts and other swag like mad and then backed the fuck up. My five minutes as a rock star, and it was enough.
Holyyyy shit.
We got to the Microsoft Xbox campus at 9:00am this morning and headed back into two conference rooms that were setup like the review sessions: Aquos tvs and 5.1 headphones. We did Campaign for a while, then MP for the rest of the day, until 9:00pm. They catered in breakfast, lunch and dinner (pretty good stuff, too). Eight of us in each room (with someone from the Xbox team sitting in to balance things out), playing all 16-player games for about nine hours straight. My voice got hoarse from all the screaming and smack talk into the intercom at the other team. :lol
I'll save lengthy thoughts for another time when I've played more, but suffice it to say that the game has taken a h-u-g-e leap forward since the Beta, in some major and a
lot of minor ways. Campaign encounters on Heroic were hard, but fair. The final battle of the first level was NUTS, and the first real Brute pack encounter in the warehouse of mission 2 was better than anything in all of Halo 2.
Oh and swag. We all took home the copy of the regular edition of the game from our stations, a Halo 3 hoodie with our gamertags on them. [They spelled mine "GalleonEB"

], a several t-shirts and other misc stuff.
Oh, and the Halo 3 edition of the Xbox 360, and a transfer cable kit. 0_0
Some random highlights from Mulitplayer:
--Getting two double-kills in a row with Gravity Hammer in an all-hammer round on Construct.
--Scoring a Overkill by plowing through four guys in row with a Ghost on Last Resort during an epic CTF match. Our team had extracted the flag and the carrier was running for dear life. I come barreling his way, he jumps aside and the four guys behind him all go down like dominos - splat, splat splat.....dodge, turn,
SPLAT.
--Our team scoring the only point in Assault, Valhalla, with swords and rocket launchers, during the bottom half of the final round. With all vehicles on, it's hard to do much of anything when everyone has rockets. It was utterly insane and fun. There was hooting. There was
screaming.
--Lasering two guys in one blast from accross the chasm in Narrows, in a just-plain-nuts game featuring all Spartan Lasers (my suggestion). People really shouldn't bunch up when there are so many lasers around....
My mind is fried from a night without much sleep and a crazy day fueled by non-stop caffeine and Halo 3. The leap from Halo 2 to Halo 3 is epic. I think it's going to do pretty good.
