I'm guessing he lives in Australia. Their 25th isn't so far away. Fuckin' time zones. :p

So I decided I might NOT be able to just walk in and buy a copy tuesday morning, and opted to go to my local EB Games and see if I could still preorder a copy this late.

The guy checks the system to see if every copy they've received has been preordered or not, and lets me know that I'm in luck. They still have 10 or so copies left.

I place my preorder, and the guy says "Know what preorder number you are?"

"Ha, what number?"

"Number 510."

Hoooly shit. This is at a small EB games in a small mall, about 30-40 minutes south of San Francisco. FIVE HUNDRED AND TEN preorders, at this one small location. It's unbelievable to me that 1) This small EB Games received over 500 preorders and 2) Their initial Halo 3 shipment is over 500 copies.

I knew Halo 3 was going to be big... bu tmy god. It truly IS going to crush all.
Holy wow.

The GS where I preordered is a small store inside a mall, and they had about 400 preorders. THERE'S A 2ND GAMESTOP LESS THAN HALF A MILE AWAY THAT HAS ANOTHER 300+ (as of two weeks ago). Seriously, what the fuck.

I don't even want to know how many pre-orders my EB has - its one of two EBs in the same mall and I imagine they are combining all the pre-orders at one store. And secondly, its located in a densely populated suburb north of ATL.

My wife is getting there to wait in line at around 7:00 while I'm in class. I probably won't get there until around 10:30. Its going to be utterly insane. Hopefully requiring the pre-orders to be fully paid will make a huge difference and I'll get out of there by 2:00 am...

Apparently, Microsoft is hosting a Halo Soundtrack Competition for entrants into the Halo 3 soundtrack by third party bands (reminiscent of Breaking Benjamin's "Blow Me Away" from Halo 2). One of their applicants, Director, has created a song titled "Director vs. Halo 3".
Uh oh.

That makes me worry about my store. I'm supposed to be there around 10 to get the receipt for the game but at the same time the Microsoft event is 10 miles away at a Circuit City. Time management crisis.

my eb only had reg edition left...another eb across town has a few of the CE left...debating on getting it there

my eb had over 4 hundred preorders and is 1 of 6 in my part of town

odd. i work at one of the biggest malls in the country and we only have a little over 200, maybe 300. then again, theres 4 other stores in the area.

didn't you know you were supposed to preorder at 20 different stores? Cancel the rest after you get one of them :D

It shouldn't be that bad man. Both of my Gamestops said with both registers running they can do about 100 transactions in 30 minutes.

M4G: How was the overall composing experience different this time around?

Marty O’Donnell: Well I had this body of work to draw on. I could choose to write all new themes for Halo 3 or to return to some themes that have proven themselves worthy of some new treatments. The Master Chief is still green, and Halo is still a ring in space. I figured that some of the themes could be revisited and find a home in Halo 3. We did some experimentation with outside bands in Halo 2 and this time I wanted come back to the basics and keep the essential themes more true to the Halo universe. I think of the overall formal structure of the music in the three games to be A B A1, rather than A B A, or A B C.
M4G: A score album will be released after the game’s launch. Have you decided which tracks to feature? How much music from the game will be included? Do you enjoy the process of compiling music for an album release?

Marty O’Donnell: I like the process but it always comes after the game is finished and I’m pretty tired of working. It’s actually good to take a little break and then come back to all the music with fresh ears (I hope) and try to determine how to make a soundtrack experience enjoyable for the listener. For the Halo 3 Original Soundtrack, I’m only using music that made it into the game. I also think it’s cool to have the tracks ordered in the same relative order they occur during the course of playing through the game.

M4G: No bands are involved on the soundtrack this time. Was this a creative decision?

Marty O’Donnell: As I said before, it seemed right to me that we didn’t need outside bands for Halo 3. I’m not saying it was wrong for Halo 2, or that I’ll never do that again because it was a great experience, it just seemed like Halo 3 was a return to our roots in some way. I’m sure the fans will let me know if I made the wrong decision.

I think I have you beat. I have a Gamestop, a EBGames, and a Gamecrazy all in the same strip mall. The one I'm getting mine from had around 400 per-orders when I checked two weeks ago, I'm sure it is higher now. Midnight at this strip mall is going to be crazy.

Hahaha, it's so retarded isn't it. I'll make sure to get final numbers. I'm hoping they'll let me take pics (mine's the one that is having catering with a live band). I'll make sure to find out how many preorders they had too; when I was there Friday they were still taking them, and in the 10 or so minutes I was in there the employee took 3 calls from people asking about it.

Aaaand after a full day of playing Halo 2 with ten other guys as a twenty-one gun salute of sorts, I am back. A fitting farewell, I'd say.

*wipes tear*

So what'd I miss? ;)

OMG TDG UR BACK. HAI2U.

Yikes. 500 pre-orders will take until 2:30 am...

I'm wondering if the mall is requiring them to shut down at a certain time? Surely the security personel aren't gonna put up with being there all night. Maybe my EB is hiring some?

(2:45:48 PM) ian: just some info that might be of interest to you
(2:46:01 PM) ian: I went to EB to pay off the remaining amount on Halo 3
(2:46:06 PM) ian: and I asked the ppl there for a bit more info
(2:46:12 PM) ian: official launch line-up starts at 9pm
(2:46:21 PM) ian: there'll be a cook out
(2:46:32 PM) ian: and the lines will be divided between those who had it paid off, and those who haven't

A cookout? :lol

What time are you guys going to EB/whatever? I figure I'll take some schoolwork and my DS and just go plop on the porch outside the store after I eat dinner :(

Live band and catering are going to make your wait in line a lot cooler then the majority of places.

there is a home-made master chief costume that's supposably super accurate making an apperance at my ebgames, but I may miss it while at MNF. I'll be taking pictures at both.

Instead of a midnight launch, maybe I'll pick it in the morning.....

I think thats much better than standing in line for 4 hours.

Just saw the opening cutscene, man the "Cortana" moment was awesome. How are we ever going to play some of the levels without Cortana :(

I don't know, either. The dialog between the two was always so fun ;_;

Edit: Spoiler tag only discusses the intro cinematic.

I will be at NYC Best Buy launch from like, 11am til midnight. Solidarity, my NYC brothers. If you are a gaf-er, identify yourself if you see me and I will try to get you schwag. Until PR mens stops me.

Wow, might have to make a NYC tomorrow night. Why did I pick Philadelphia to go to school?

There's no way that all 500 of their preorders will go to the midnight launch. The manager said that for every midnight launch they've ever done, including Halo 2, turnout is usually about 1/3 of the preorders.
