I don't know why. It's clearly not the best looking game on the 360. If we go by tiers and games like Gears and CoD 4 are the best then Halo 3 is one level below that. Mainly because of worse textures and aliasing.

Initially, I really thought there was a lot of room for improvement.. but dude, 4 player co-op!? Forge!?!? Saved films out the wazo0o! Dammit, they surpassed my expectations!

Did someone just say Halo 3 has worse aliasing than CoD4? I mean, that's what I read but I just want to check with yall incase it's just the hangover making me see things.

Why not a switch? It should do the same thing thing in regards to giving the connection to all the devices I want, such as my PC and 360. Can you please tell me why I need a router and why not a switch in more detail please instead of insulting me?

actually no, I can't, insulting you is way more fun than informing you. I already told you what you need to do, either you can do it, or you can do what you're planning to, have it not work and do what I said later.

the network can't see a switch, so it won't do what you want if your network works the way you described it. I'm not going to give you a three hour basics of networking class on a message board, hit wikipedia or something.

Despite the fact the fact I will have to plunk about an extra 160$ just to play with decent controls my interest in this game just shot up again.

But the fact of the matter is, Halo 3's visual scope absolutely DWARFS those games, where enclosed confines / claustrophobic situations are usually the rule of the day. To that end, it is on completely level ground, considering how much is going on under the hood.

Different Engines have different goals no point in comparing them outside of retarded arguments that do shit in the end.

Yeah, some people fail to understand.. you can't have EVERYTHING (i.e. want a cake? bake it yourself!). GOW can only display a certain amount of enemies on screen at any given time? (Technical limit?) and the environments were somewhat (very?) confined. But hey, if fighting off 3-man waves of respawning brutes is your thing.. then uhhh.. damn.

EDIT: Spread Peace, they're all great games worth playing/owning in the end.

You can see it here:
http://compnetworking.about.com/od/homenetworkhardware/f/routervsswitch.htm

I haven't read it, but, in short, from what I think I know is:
If you want to use the Xbox 360 and the PC at the same time, they both need to have 1 IP-adress each. The switch doesn't give out IP-adresses ("DCHP"), the router does.
If you want to join the intranet, you can't have two devices sharing the same IP adress. I'm not sure at all, but I don't think the switch even has its own MAC adress. This mean sthat even though you connect via a switch, it will still record your computers or Xbox 360's MAC adress, which will make it worthless - I'm not 100% sure about this though.

A router though, has it's own MAC adress and takes up one IP adress. Most ISPs only gives out one IP adress á home. Then the router creates new internal network ip adresses to your Xbox 360 and PC, and gives internet access to them all via its own IP adress.

Bah, in short, from what I know: with a switch, you won't be able to connect both Xbox 360 and PC, as they each has their own MAC adress - and you can only have one for your home. But if you buy a router, you can connect 1000 different devices without any hustle.

The one thing I don't understand though, is how you can access the internet now. If you can do that without MAC adress access, you shouldn't have any trouble doing that with your Xbox 360.

err.... Halo 3 rocks! Looking forward to it etc.

Can someone explain why everyone worships Gears? It felt completely unfinished and I just didn't get blown away by the visuals...

Especially those stupid cut scenes that made me think my 360 was going to explode.

Yeah my 360 can get online, but just has a moderate NAT. I'm going into town now to get a router (thanks to you) and a few other bits and bobs. Thanks for the help again, and I'll update the thread on how I get on later.

Depends on your pov. I hate detest controllers in fps games no matter what so I can either wait for a pc version to come out years later gimped with no community or spend some cash and play where the bulk of people are also with my brothers who will never play the pc version.

You are preaching to the choir, I didn't bother beating the first level or whatever and threw up when trying the multiplayer. Plus all the characters looked like feces, and the environments suitable toilets.

Might as well start up this old drum. To me playing a single player game with mouse/keyboard is about the most unimmersive thing you can do. Sure, console controls are a little infuriating at times, but nothing is more relaxing than just gelling with the controller. But hey, different strokes and such!

I'm with you here, I have no idea why everyone gets fap happy with gears. It does look good, in some places it looks incredible, but I found overall it left me wanting for something a little more satisfying. I certainly didn't like the controls, I felt they were at best clumsy.

More power to people who enjoyed it though, certainly a good solid starting block for the franchise and hopefully number 2 will address some of the issues I had with it.

3 days to go :3

Damn, for some reason, the AV cable doesn't work. The 360 turns on just fine, but there is no picture or sound. Everything is plugged in and everything. Stupid brother, after he played his Wii on the tv it doesn't work. So now I either shell out the money to get an AV cable, wait a week for them to ship it to me, or just take it in the face.

The one that shipped with it? Do you have it switched to the correct definition?

[1.00x] <--- Is that the difficulty modifier?

That's the bonus modifier. We were playing on Legendary and just ended up getting murdered that level. We had to retry about 8 times before we made it to that point.

It starts out at 3.00x, and if you don't finish the mission within an allotted time, it lowers to 2.00x, and then after missing another time limit, 1.00x. If you get over a certain number of points at the end of the game you get an achievement, so there is an incentive. We kept it up just to have bragging rights as to who was the best.

I just want my Halo :(

same here. Its 24 hours till eb get $200 of my not so hard earned and 25 hours till i'm playing. So close yet so far

only decision now is: to Drink or not to Drink

Three aspects of Halo 3 that I am dying to experience:

1. The sounds. I have said it before, but the music, sound effects of the weapons, the environmental effects, and the random comments of the NPCs are probably my favorite elements of Halo.

2. The AI on Legendary. Knowing how much fine tuning went into the challenge of this game, I am absolute knuckle-cracking ready to sink my teeth into this both as a solo player and with my mates online.

3. Multiplayer goodness with Team Jesus. Some of my fondest memories of Xbox Live are playing into the wee hours of the morning with me lads in Team Jesus. Scoot, Trasher, and Bennett: the time is nigh. And I haven't forgotten you Ramirez and Duderon. ;)

Really?! God, that's such a great idea. Thanks for the info.

We approach immerision in a game from different ways. Unless the game has direct method that relates to what's going on say a guitar in gh or a driving wheel I tend to go for something that makes me forget the interface is even there, essenting gelling as you call it. I would prefer a controller + mouse setup but it has a lack of buttons, depends on the mouse yet devs are dumb to recognize this setup.

I have to say that I really love the look of this game. The graphics from the vid docs and videos I have seen look awesome. Maybe they aren't technically as advanced as Gears or Bioshock, but they just have this very polished and vibrant look to them.

I got a question although I know only a very few will be able to answer it. Will the Friends and Family of Bungie get any privileges? Getting to play the beta a few days early was pretty damn awesome.

Yeah, it is swithched over to standard. I guess I will just pay for a new one when I get to Gamestop, then when Xbox ships me one for free I will just take it back and get my money back (since accesories they give you your money back) still, I dont want to pay the $20-50 that it will probably cost.

Edit: Do you think that is a resonable course of action Neogaf?

So i popped into my local GAME store in the UK and they had HALO 3 running on a 32" plasma. To play you have to ask the employees for the controller. No spoilers BTW it was only Sierra 117. It was the funnest experience of my life, in gaming terms anyway. The AI was incredible, i spent a while working this Brute chieften down to low health and he clubbed me with his hammer and killed me. Also my friend had a go. He dislodged the armour on a brute so it fell off and then the brute went apsolutley ape shit and jostled/sprinted up to my friend and sort of wiped him out in some american football style manoever. Teh AWESOME
