The Official Halo 3 Thread

So far it seems like H3 will shape up to be the perfect Halo game, since everything I had hoped for is in the final game from the videos and so forth Bungie has released.

Also, the wait is a lot better when you have TF2 to take your mind off things, only problem is I fear I'll take a while before I get use to the controller again. :lol

Oh and maybe Luke or Frank can answer this; how hard will legendary be if you go it alone? Will it be ruthless like H2 or is the balance much better this time?

I think there is a subtle "men in heavy armor" fetish in sci-fi. Master Chief, Iron Man, Boba Fett and Darth Vader always attract the greatest multitude of sci-fi geeks.

Yesterday I recieved my replacement 360 and the UPS guy told me that he already delivered about ten of those and it was only 11 in the morning.

It seems that Microsoft is really going to try to push out as many replacement 360's during this week and the next.

I got a new one sent out to me in less than 24 hours, 2nd heatsink and all. I believe it.

Ok, sorry guys, but I just don't get all this hype.

The game has such a huge following on NeoGAF that I decided I should snag a copy at Argos, but I'm probably going to take it back based on my inital playthrough.

I mean, what a thoroughly mediocre FPS. I've seen guys shit on stuff like The Darkness and even BioShock as FPSes, but hold Halo in such high regard, but I don't see whats so fantastic about it? The weapons are just plain weird and don't even feel responsive; maybe I'm just used to blood spurting out of Splicers in BioShock and Locusts in Gears of War, but I just don't feel any feedback from the weapons.
I just don't feel like Halo 3 is achieving anything for the FPS genre; sure Halo was a huge step-up for console FPS, but Halo 3 is still that same game with little new (fair enough, I've only played the first three levels of both Halo and Halo 3, but I'm not noticing much new).

So maybe the draw is this storyline and world, but I just can't stop laughing at how ridiculous everything is; half the time the soldiers treat Master Chief as some kind of stupid old man, having to crack awkward jokes and talk condescendingly to him like he's some kind of idiot - the other half of the time it's like "woah, master chief - an honor to work in your precense!".
The aliens are just the worst though; voiced by the cast of the Muppets and modeled by a reject he-man action figure designer, they look dumb and sound dumber; high pitched squeals or gurgling fat-man routine, I wish they didn't speak in English so it might not break the illusion.

It looks nice, it doesn't control bad but It's just not an enjoyable FPS at all, I look forward to trying co-op, but it's probably going back to the shop.

Wow... What are you trying to accomplish with those piles of old tired hyperboled rhetoric, borderlining insulting the fans themselves? Attention...? ...Oh, I see... Ok, then I'll play along... Yeah, sure; We Halo fans are seriously retarded and only enjoy shitty stupid ridiculous games, and Bungie are a bunch of talentless old farts who should rather make muppet action figure movies from the script of dumb and dumber than making games... Yeah, that must be it. Awesome. What would the internets be without our beloved shared single transistor which we continuously flick on and off and on and off and on and off... Crappy, Awesome, Crappy, Awesome, Crappy, Awesome, Crappy...

Frankie insists that everyone should play on Heroic the first time through, but I'm gonna give Legendary a shot and see how it feels. I have a feeling -- and this is pure speculation -- that Legendary in H3 will be a little easier than in H2, and that using the skulls as modifiers will give you the true "Legendary and beyond" difficulty.

Plus the pure epicness (embarrassment?) of going thru on Legendary, on your first run-thru, will be awesome to watch via Saved Films three years down the road. :D

Speaking of gamertags: Ghaleon, do you plan on updating the round-up thread sometime soon? It's moving pretty slow now, so if you're waiting for a particular number of replies to accumulate between updates, it may take a while.

I was just wondering -- it's no biggie. I'm sorry if you're busy and stuff.

I saw two of my friends on my friends list playing Halo 3. Apparently, some place in Manhattan broke the street date and they got their copies. :lol

Like I said, anyone who lives in NYC has zero excuse (other than wanting the LE or Legendary edition) to not have the game TODAY. I know 3 stores selling it, and I picked up four extras for my friends (had mine since Tuesday =)).

Toronto is supposed to be a half-assed New York City and there is nothing like that going on here... :(

I'm with you Kittens. I played H2 all the way through on Legendary my first play and the rush of finishing the game was awesome, and to tell the truth I know a lot of people hated the ending but for me it was not some big disappointment since I felt like I had gotten my monies worth.

Some parts were a real fucking bitch but it was fun figuring out the best strats on beating them, and like you said the watching those saved films a couple of years down the road will be priceless. :D

I would have totally respected his opinion but something sounded off about the general statements he made so I decided to double check his gamertag listed in his profile. BAM!

Oh and I completely respect someone's opinion but he is the only person I've seen thus far who has claimed to play it and not had it listed on his played list. He could be worried about being banned from Xbox Live but he has nothing to worry about.

Heh. Yeah, I'm waiting for the Limited Edition I reserved.

McBacon is a good sort. He wouldn't lie about playing it. He just didn't like it. It happens.

If he didn't like it, then he didn't like Halo 1 or 2 at all (single-player). And so, there would be no reason for him to like this one either.

You know whats sad? My friends were willing to drive up to NYC to get Metroid a day early and to hang out...halo 3 a couple days early no way jose.

Watch yourself, one could be a spoiler bomb.
Already happened. I set my settings to receive no messages and I'm doubtful so attempt to send me more spoilers. Regardless, I'm careful when I do check.

Regarding the "female" Spartan pose.

Stinkles said:
It's just an especially feminine looking pose. We make loads of concept art, some gets used, some doesn't. It is categorically not Kelly.

Stinkles said:
It means it's a pose of the Chief that was cool, but too feminine. Especially now you mention it.

It is one of several dozen discarded marketing concepts on the Halo 3 Zune, from many months ago.

He only played the first three levels of Combat Evolved... and only the first three levels of Halo 3 before coming here to give us his impressions.

I actually gave up on playing H2 on Legendary for my first run-thru when I got to the Cairo hangar decks. Those waves of Elites were brutal. =[ But my Halo skillz have gotten better since then, and I can get thru those rooms with little difficulty. Hopefully that skill will carry over to H3. =]

Yeah, I think I was so excited to duel wield that I forgot the Pistol/Plasma Pistol combo from H1 could carry over to H2 with the BR/Plasma Pistol. It really does work wonders.

People lie all the time. You can't blame people for looking at circumstantial evidence and taking it at face value. Not that I really care one way or the other.

Legendary edition comes with the tin? Or was that a specially packaged legendary edition?

I think that was specially packed. I've seen the cases that come with the legendary edition. There is a thread around here somewhere with pics.

Haha, the good old PP saved my ass in really tough spots as well. It never came to mind that this combo would be overpowered for MP till I started noticing everyone using it. :lol
