If he doesn't like multiplayer, then there's something wrong.

I havn't tried it yet because...

Maybe he hasn't plugged his X360 into live, but I can't see Halo 3 on his gamertag http://live.xbox.com/en-GB/profile/A...pareTo=McBacon

Yeah, playing away from home, I've got the first two levels done and one achievement for using the "Needler"

Probably not something for you. Halo captivated me when I first crash landed on the Halo ring in CE, everyone else dead and I and had to duck behind rocks in fear of overflying Banshees and incoming troops.

Yeah, that was pretty cool, there's definitly some of that stuff in Halo 3; the old theme music kicking in as you're kicking ass, I can definitly imagine Halo fans enjoying that.

It's not an enjoyable FPS at all? Wow. I mean, come on...

Well, maybe a bit far, but I seem to be spending more time trying to find weapons and healing than actually fighting - I also suck, so that explains the healing.

Ok, sorry guys, but I just don't get all this hype.

The game has such a huge following on NeoGAF that I decided I should snag a copy at Argos, but I'm probably going to take it back based on my inital playthrough.

I mean, what a thoroughly mediocre FPS. I've seen guys shit on stuff like The Darkness and even BioShock as FPSes, but hold Halo in such high regard, but I don't see whats so fantastic about it? The weapons are just plain weird and don't even feel responsive; maybe I'm just used to blood spurting out of Splicers in BioShock and Locusts in Gears of War, but I just don't feel any feedback from the weapons.
I just don't feel like Halo 3 is achieving anything for the FPS genre; sure Halo was a huge step-up for console FPS, but Halo 3 is still that same game with little new (fair enough, I've only played the first three levels of both Halo and Halo 3, but I'm not noticing much new).

So maybe the draw is this storyline and world, but I just can't stop laughing at how ridiculous everything is; half the time the soldiers treat Master Chief as some kind of stupid old man, having to crack awkward jokes and talk condescendingly to him like he's some kind of idiot - the other half of the time it's like "woah, master chief - an honor to work in your precense!".
The aliens are just the worst though; voiced by the cast of the Muppets and modeled by a reject he-man action figure designer, they look dumb and sound dumber; high pitched squeals or gurgling fat-man routine, I wish they didn't speak in English so it might not break the illusion.

It looks nice, it doesn't control bad but It's just not an enjoyable FPS at all, I look forward to trying co-op, but it's probably going back to the shop.

:lol Only pre-owned copy of Halo 3 on any store shelves confirmed.

How convenient. ;) Regardless, if the game isn't your style then I don't see why you bothered to "get" it.

1)What difficulty are you playing on?
2)Part of the appeal is picking up the right weapons, throwing them away at a whim, getting behind cover when your shield is depleted and then going back into action. The more intune you become with this, the better it gets.

If you suck at the game, well...then it's hard to enjoy it and really GET and familiarize yourself with the halo gameplay, especially seeing as your exposure to Halo games is very limited.

I concur...that guy lost.
Meaning that I've won the Confession contest, right? Good. Thought so. :D

The reason I've never bothered with MP is because I was so LTTP. I never even owned an Xbox, and my exposure to Halo has all happened in the last 18 months or so. After buying my 360, I basically just played the first two to prepare myself for Halo 3, plot-wise. Also, I used those games to learn how to FPS on a controller. Since the rest of the Halo Nation has spent the last several years racking up ludicrous numbers of online hours, the idea of playing against those folks (ie. you guys) is about as appealing as a root canal.

But I may give it a shot next week. There should actually be some newbies out there to match up with. How many rounds o' pounding do you think I will need to endure before the matchmaking algorithms figure out just how bad I am? 5? 10? 50? (I read that there will be a "newbie pool" of games that de-ranking assholes won't be able to fuck with. That sounds excellent. Kudos to Bungie.)

McBacon, it is no wonder that if Halo: CE didn't get to you, Halo 3 remains 'odd' and 'unimpressive'. For me, Halo has always been about perfect ( and responsive ) console-FPS playability - the best of its kin. And the atmosphere? Through the roof and into the orbit.

But yes, I am a Sci-Fi -nut, and that helps a lot. There aren't many good Sci-fi -based games around anyways.

McBacon said:
I played the first few levels of Halo 1, but ignored Halo 2. To be honest with you, Sci-Fi stuff isn't really my thing, I prefer to shoot real people, but I'll try anything that gets super high scores / respect.
OMG

There's no such thing as a game that will be loved by everyone. Halo is no exception.

If he thinks it's not enjoyable at all, it's doubtful that any amount of familiarity is going to bring him up to the raving fanatacism exhibited by a huge proportion of the fps-playing population.

Oh leave the guy alone, halo isn't for everybody.

Only for like 99% of us....

and maybe the japanese.

Or he's in here baiting and ya'll are playing right into it.

Dear Official Halo 3 Thread,

I just beat Bioshock today and it kinda sucked, but that doesn't matter anymore because I got my achievement points from it and sent it back to the store. But that means I need to move on to something else before the cold maw of time between now and Halo 3 engulfs me. Whatever should I do! MrMcBacon doesn't recommend playing The Darkness because that will just sour me on Halo 3 apparantly, which leaves me with umm... Crackdown and Ninja Gaiden and Fable. I'm at a loss as to which will make the pain go away, please advise.

I'm enjoying reading impressions from someone who isn't too familiar with Halo, and so far isn't really enjoying the experience. It's interesting.

Be nice, guys, he's just sharing his opinion. :)

If I were choosing among those three for this final weekend, I'd play Fable.

(And yes, I also love Ninja Gaiden and Crackdown. You can't go wrong with any of them.)

To be fair the GAF responses thus far have been polite.

I agree, but I don't think we need to sick the attack squad on people just yet. He wasn't even that creative with his complaints. There will be people worthy of an effort soon enough. From everything I've seen/heard, I really have no fears about halo anymore and just feel sorry for people that can't enjoy it.

Anyone found a copy near new orleans? I'd drive a few hours to pick up a copy?

Anybody?????

PLEASE???!!?

*exhales, sorry it just catches me every once and a while.

There are no 7-11's here, nor any mom and pop stores that sell video games.... it's just not fair. Just big box stores and ebgames.

Well if you are going to post a generally negative response to a game (albeit sincerely) in the official thread, most people are going to react. Thankfully it has been civil.

Microsoft is holding an event at downtown Toronto starting in 5 min. from 3pm to 9pm I believe. I'm in class now so afterwards I'll be taking some pics for you to see.

Oh, and Halo 3 will be playable :D

I just came back from this event. Expect E3 like crowds and a long line to play Halo 3. They are essentially letting people play 10 minute rounds of Team Slayer on Valhalla. Nothing too exciting at all and I decided to come home and play Halo 2 instead of waiting in such a long line.

I'm just playing through ninja gaiden black again, and holy shit, that's still one of the finest games ever. During the last few months i've been thinking dmc and gow are both great games, i had been thinking that maybe i had overestimated ng back then, but playing it again today puts things back in perspective. Ninja Gaiden just plain rocks.
Having said that, if you think bioshock sucked then something's wrong with you and you may not like NG. Not that bioshock was anywhere near the masterpiece they made it sound, but it most certainly didn't suck.

McBacon...sorry to hear you are not enjoying it. But if you are anywhere near London I'll happily come and collect it from you to save you taking it back...and pay double what you paid for it. I'll give it a loving home, I promise! I will hug it, and caress it and it will become part of my family. So at least you would know its going to a good home :D

There's a locally owned store in the big mall in Baton Rouge that's run by some cool guys. I don't know if they're selling Halo 3 early, but you might want to give them a call. (Store is Gameware, phone number is (225) 769-1413.) I've only been there a couple of times, but my friends who live in Baton Rouge are on good terms with those guys.

Now how about the Nashville area :(

Well I didn't expect that.
That's a good range. Shoe and Jeremy are pretty different Halo fans and Greg I'm assuming isn't particularly.
Personally I'm most interested in Parish's opinion, cause I liked reading his Halo retronaut blogs and find his take on Halo quite interesting.

Ok, calling me one of the Columbine murderers? That's cool, I guess.

But anyway, I just wanted to get my thoughts off my chest, I wish I did like it, I kinda feel like a fish out of water where all these hardcore gamers are loving Halo and I just don't see it. But regardless, I'll keep out of this thread because its kinda scary, enjoy your game peeps.

I don't consider myself a hardcore Halo fan but Halo 3 shows what a next gen game should look like. Graphics are amazing at parts, along with astonishing gameplay and it's unique feel, it it jam packed full of features. Show me one 'next-gen' game that even comes close to half the features Halo 3 offers.

If anyone in the So Cal area feels like going to south OC you can likely get a copy tonight. I just spoke to my local game store and he's expecting his distributor to drop off his copies around 6:00. He's got to fill preorders, but he'll have about 50 regular editions left and about 5 limited. PM me your email address if you're interested, and I'll let you know where to go when he confirms the shipment has arrived.

Try multiplayer? Forge?

Single Player isn't squat for many people (you) but multiplayer/forge might be your calling. Multiplayer as in matches with neogaf members and custom games. :)

dang i hate my X, ruined my credit so now i am short to get the 1080 set i been eyeballing.

i still have enough to get the smaller 32" 720 set but i am so wondering would it be worth waiting and saving for a 1080 set and just sacrificing using HD for my halo 3 night.
