I've been a bit reluctant to post this (at first I was afraid of getting banned from Live, then I just wanted to play the game ... a lot), but I guess this is as good a time as any. I got Halo 3 last Saturday, and I've completed the campaign two times since then. Once on normal and once on legendary, both were with three friends in co-op. I don't want to write anything that might ruin your experience, especially related to the story, so I figured you could ask me questions instead, if you have any.
Gee, I guess my post got lost in all the negative comments towards meddow. :lol
I'll start out with a few general things. I was very pleased with the campaign, and as I said, I don't want to spoil the story, but there are a lot of both large and memorable encounters. Some of these occur on the later levels of the game, and some of these levels bear a resemblance to levels from Halo 1. I'm not going to say which ones, but in my opinion this is a really good thing. I actually got a little nostalgic.
I didn't encounter any problems with the AI as I read somewhere else here, but the AI didn't impress me that often either. The most fun I had with the AI was probably when it deployed just the right kind of equipment at the right time, and when it dodged either my chopper or warthog. Oh, and when two grunts came running after me with two armed plasma grenades in their hands, at the same time. Maybe if I play even more, AI "gems" like these will be more apparent?
The graphics? They're nice, really nice. The game as a whole is really atmospheric, and I'm sure most of you have read about the foliage, especially in Sierra 117, so I won't write too much about that, but that level in particular is gorgeous. Now that I think about it, there was a slight pop-in of foliage on Tsawo Highway. Since that level is mostly vehicle based it's understandable, and there's not that much foliage to notice in the first place, but from time to time some would pop in. That's just a minor complaint, thought, maybe you won't even notice. If I were to come up with a somewhat legitimate complaint regarding the graphics, I'd say that ... in a perfect world, it would have a bit more AA. I don't know if it's even technically possible with the stuff happening on screen with a consistent frame rate, but I said
in a perfect world, right? Heh.
Difficulty? Four experienced Halo players on normal isn't such a good idea (as has been pointed out by Bungie several times). It was enjoyable, it's not that, it just went by a bit too quick. We wanted more. So when another friend of mine got the game, we played it through on legendary. I guess we died a couple of times too many, but it never got frustrating, and I think I'd actually enjoy the added challenge of at least a couple of skulls (of which I have found a meager four :/) on legendary.
In general I'm really happy with the campaign, and unlike Halo 1 and 2, I am 100% sure I'm going to complete it time and time again. I usually don't do that with games, but I guess it's a combination of the fact that I NEED TEH ACHIEVEMENTS!!1 (to get the armor permutations) and campaign scoring, which is really awesome. I've only played it once, but I beat my friends. Bahaha.
Multiplayer? I haven't played any matchmaking, because the last time I checked the playlist server wasn't up and running. Forge is sweet, though. I've made a map variant of
for Infection use, and I can't wait to try it out with more friends.
I hope you guys at least got something out of this brief write-up and I'm sorry if my English isn't quite up to par. You see, I'm from Norway (no, I'm not the guy on that picture floating around :lol ). If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
