I'll be trying Forge before Multiplayer.
 
I just ordered from Newegg....am I really going to get it before the 25th?
Newegg usually takes one business day to get their stuff delivered to my place.
 
If I make a map variant with the Forge and I play a custom game, do all of my friends have to download the map? I know you can use file share to share maps with your friends, but is that only required if they want to use the map later on their own games?
 
Well my pre-ordered copy just arrived from dStore, Australia. Only problem is I'm going on a road trip in about 10mins, coming home Sunday... my still sealed Halo 3 is sitting next to me, and won't be played for another four days... oh the irony!

I would have played it on Normal anyway, so gaffers would tear me to shreds regardless. :lol

Yeah it really does sound amazingly flexible. They've managed to pack in a lot of the most fundamental and useful features of Sapien (their internal map editor that was released in limited form as part of the editing kit for the 2 PC versions of Halo) while actually improving on the user interface for these particular features. I can't wait to start tweaking maps in these more advanced ways to totally change the way they play. What a great idea Forge was!

I just used a saved film to find a skull. I detached the camera and flew it around. I noticed a white blotch on a ledge, and lo and behold! Skull.

Finding these skulls is going to consume me. Ugh, I don't want to go to work in ten minutes.

1. Your order will sit at step 3 until they send a tracking number via email which should happen around 7-8pm EST.
2. If you placed your order by Noon PST and used next day FEDEX as your shipping option, you should get it tomorrow. (Unless you were one of the folks who ordered it after they ran out, I'm sorry)


If you really want to confirm your order, use their onlne chat service and they will tell you if it is packed and ready to roll. If you do not receive a tracking number tonight and you ordered before Noon, you have really bad luck.

It's fine untill a teammate quits 3 mintues in because we are 3 kills down, its totaly possible to make a come back at that point but no he quits anyway...

It was once mentioned that you could decide to save/download Forged map variants from recent games you've played in order to play them later. This suggests you do not need to have it specifically downloaded to your own space in order to play it in the first place - I would presume the small file containing all the Forged information will be sent from the host to all the players in the game at the start (they probably also check if you already have the file cached).
 
Hmm, I'm going to figure out if it's possible to make some kind of fun Crazy Taxy variant, with that carrier warthog and rockets. One team spawns with rockets and support weapons, other team needs to ride the warthog for a set amount of time/pick up and drop off team mates at certain key locations. Haven't gotten it all figured out how it'll work out let alone if it'll be fun but chaotic warthog rides are always fun in regular games.

My favorite bit from the Forge articles, regarding teleporters:

You might be wondering what happens when there’s more than one valid receiver on the same channel. Simple: your destination will be randomly selected from the valid locations

What mancannons have that teleporters do not is an element of risk to them, as you fly through the air ("Pull!"). Adding a secondary exit to a teleporter will amend that. Imagine a teleporter in the communications room behind the flag on High Ground. One exit takes you closer to the goal, perhaps outside the wall or in the bunker. The other is in the back of the base near the SAM site: end up back there, and you're screwed. Decisions, decisions.

How's the AA in the game ? Improved from the beta ? Or does it still look like there are chainsaws on every ledge ?

Yeah that feature of teleporters really stood out. Clever use of it could near enough create new game mechanics.

You could set up 1 receiver in some kind of death pit or trap, another that leads to a power weapon, and then have 5 or so more all in the same location that lead to some carbine or br ammo. Have all 7 of them set up on the same channel, then most of the time you will just get the br/carbine ammo, but there's the risk you'll get dropped into a trap, and also the small possibility of greater reward (the power weapon). Messing with the odds of certain outcomes by multiplying up the number of receivers in certain locations could really encourage some interesting decision making.

This is based off of no actual experience with the game but I think you should be able to do that as a variant of VIP with the Go To Points. It just depends if you can have an asymmetric VIP game.

Wow. I thought I was the only one. When I saw him as admin for SDF, I was shocked, but I thought it was common knowledge around here so I just left it alone.

How can he possibly come in here and flaunt his arcade codes and work for SDF ??
