Then post a link, don't bring that crap in here. For a lot of posters here who actually care about the story this is one of the few places on the net a spoiler is unlikely. But as soon as people who just want a bit of quick gaf-cred start posting random ending spoilers it increases the chances that somone will accidentally quote the spoiler without tags, or accidentally highlight it, and we don't want that shit.

When the game is out, then we'll all be posting spoilers and using the tags, not before.

There are 2 endings for the game. However one of them lead to banishment and the other is a link to a coupon for Game Fuel.

I personaly never bumped into any spoilers around that time, never even knew about the leak untill like a year later when someone must have brought it up in a thread somewhere. But once the americans and others got the retail copy the internet was a hazard.

Exactly, and that's what I'm worried about. One missed spoiler tag, one quote without a ] would lead to the ending being spoilt for somone, and sods law says that somone will be me.

I didn't want to see it (I was spoiled), but frankly, I don't want to be a 'legitimate fan' of anything.

I think its just an assumption that endings have sudden shocking revelations (they don't, always) and therefore its better to see it for yourself than be spoiled.

Reading people's reactions to spoiler tagged comments reminds me of a guy I met in college who was missing a portion of his pointer finger. After an evening of light drinking, he was asked how his finger got that way. He replied by explaining that when he was a boy, he saw the fan spinning outside in his air conditioner and he was "curious". The moral of the story: if danger is sensed to be eminent, don't mess with it.

true. I'm not a huge fan of the halo story. Halo: CE's story was a nice entrance to the world, 2's was garbage, and I don't expect much from 3. It's a solid shooter, I'll give it that, but when it comes to the halo story, I could live without it.

And just to elaborate on what you said: Spoiler-tagged spoilers are not a problem. The forum administration has directed folks to post them in there, tagged, and this is the official thread - so it's appropriate to keep the discussion in here. People just shouldn't read them, and it's all good.

My big concern is someone is going to forget to close a tag or have an error in it that is not caught, and so lots of people get spoiled by accident.

It's the people that watch the ending before playing the game that are in it just for the multiplayer, or don't fully understand the story of Halo.
