BTB last night was a mixed bag. Just myself and a buddy so it was pretty much a coin toss each game team wise. Fun prevailed, if only just.

We got horribly griefed in a Multiflag game on Sandbox by the BPK clan
who?
. Half my team quit before the game starts leaving us 4 on 8. We got muscled hard. They ran the flag twice in quick secession which led to the other 2 teammates dropping out. The good ol' BPK decide it's time to play slayer. I put the pad down, lit a cigarette and started browsing the web as they continued to kill my lifeless spartan over and over again. With about 7 minutes left on the clock and no sign of them finishing up I was bored and in need of an actual game so I quit out, for shame. -13 k/d in the end. I think I played all of 2 minutes in total. Griefing, I can't see the appeal first off but what's completely beyond me is when the team you're griefing is afc. What's the point? I'm sure there are better ways to waste time.

Looks like I met those guys too, and not so suprisingly, half of the other team quit almost immediately:http://www.bungie.net/Stats/GameStatsHalo3.aspx?gameid=1283829586&player=Paavi

Luckily or not, I was on the same side with them. Couldn't get the perfection medal & achievement, pnuuh. Not so long ago I managed to grab over 15 kills and died just seconds before our team got the last kill. Well, I think it will come if I keep on playing.

By the way, someone got a bit sleepy during Splockets BTB match:

Once you get further into the show and it's more tripped out concepts, I highly suggest checking this site out. The guy makes connections that I never would have even thought about making on my own. Lots of great stuff in there.

Speaking of which, I just started watching Lost since its streaming on netflix.

I'm only 14 episodes deep though, so no massive revelations have occured yet.

But it's been awesome so far so I can't wait for it to get crazy.
I envy the lost newbies. I watched the first 2 season in 2 weeks. It was fucking awesome!

...Halo 3 is fun

So what's the deal with the HaloGAF tag? I assumed people added it and used the HaloGAF tag's friends feature to see all the Gaffer tags without having to add everyone...but when I sent the request and looked at it's friend list, I only saw three tags.

Neverender said:
I think the current active tag is 'GAF Halo 3'. It has a lot of people on it.

Doh! thanks a lot, appreciate it. I'll have to shoot an invite tonight. My connection finally seems to have stabilized by itself...maybe Cox got their shiznit together. Anyway, it's time to shake the rust off and get back into Halo. I'll have to play with some of you guys, Gamer tag is x Squall ASF x

So how many on here play BTB? I know Ghaleon loves it and I'm a fan of the gametype myself but have lacked a team of players for it since the good ole Halo 2 days.

YES. Right when I finish watching the first 4 seasons of LOST, it shows up on Netflix Instant. :( All that mail-to-me-mail-it-back bullshit for nothing.

In the middle of season 5 right now. You'll love the later seasons.

Hope to hop on Halos soon to check out the MM changes and play some BTB Entrenched.

OMG, someone else that actually got enjoyment out of the later seasons. It's ridiculous how many people hate on everything after season one.

I love Halo MP.

Since i'm all new to this whole halo thingy I was wondering who I should add to get into some gaf action! :D

Oh, my gamertag is "alba7" just in case :-) ty!

I'll go BTB'n with ya. GT: Spasm.

I notice the MM update has increased the overall BTB population a smidge. Used to hover around 5k players, now it's about 8k. Nice.

Edit: Yes, BTB is my game of choice, even with the unevenness of playing with randoms.

It seems like most GAFfers enjoy BTB. I remember playing it a bunch between classes in the morning in the Halo 2 days and constantly getting teamed up with people who only spoke French.

I'm working on the middle structure for my map. I'm hoping to have the map done for customs this weekend. The bottom level of the bases is pretty roomy and it's looking like there should be plenty of space for vehicles to move about. I just hope the Banshee isn't too overpowered on the map.

More questions...

What do I do in these senarios?

1) I instead of concentrating on the shot I try to weaken the opponent with a grenade. The opponent will shoot me down before I get a shot off. Either that or when my sheild is weak I panic and drop a grenade and I always lose those fights. Is grenande spamming at a distance really the way to go?

2) What do you do when someone has the drop on you from behind? By the time I turn around to retaliate, I am dead. If I run, I am gunned down. So what is the right defense here?

3) I lose a ton of beat downs even though I connect. Especially against Elites. I shoot first, beat down and he hits me once with no shots and I go down.

4) If someone is rushing you do you rush back? A deadshot aim guy rushing me means only one thing, Im dead. I read once that rushing in is bad but many people do it and you just have to react. Im just not sure the way to do it. I have figure out that throwing a grenade renders you helpless for that second or so. The film watching is helping.

A Map I seem to struggle with is Foundry. Unless I have a shotgun I am bad in close battles, I always get gunned down

The other problem is this matching system. Everytime I get on a roll I get in a match with guys who are in the high 30's or even a 50. They should have a single skill rank. I mean the 50 I just played against basically didnt miss a shot.

I am trying to skill up in lone wovles. What is needed for a succesfull skill up? Do you need to place top 3 and have a good +/- kill ratio? For example, what if I am in oddball and I place top 3 but I have a neg kill ratio. How does that work?

In slayer, If I place 4th but have a pos kill ratio do I move up or does that count as a neg?

For 2: http://www.bungie.net/Online/Halo3UserContentDetails.aspx?h3fileid=74883018

I believe that the TrueSkill™ system only takes into account your placing in regards to other players, not factors such as K/D ratio.

If someone has first shot on you and will continue to shoot you you'll probably die. If there's some cover you should toss a nade run behind it, and once the nade goes off go for the shot. Tossing a long nade is generally just a good way to waste a nade, especially if you use it later.

Run around a corner or some kind of cover while laying a grenade down so that if they follow you their shields will drop.

Elites have faster reflexes. Deal with it.

Really depends on the situation. What weapon they have and which one are you using, your health, etc. When a player is rushing you it's pretty easy to toss a nade in between you which'll either make him back off or take his shields down.

Foundry is a bad map. My strategy is to control the back area as once you do you'll have 2 snipes and a rocket with a fast spawn. And as someone who hates Halo 3's CQC Street Fighter Wannabe Motherfucking superlunge Host Detector, just try to keep your distance.

If you're not in the top half it's a lose. Doesn't matter if you go negative up your ass, just try to get 25 kills first. That's another reason I hate FFA, terrible miserable gametype.

Aiming a map memorization just come with time and practice. But what matters just as much is situational awareness. Always have an idea of where the enemy is, and always have some cover or something as security. Try to put your opponent at a disadvantage: if you have a CQC weapon, draw em in to CQC, if you have something long ranged stick to parts of the map where they'll have to take you on long ranged. If you mostly play FFA, this may not help as FFA is just a crazy clusterfuck of stealing kills. In that case, don't play FFA.

Once you learn the maps, it'll become almost instinctive to move behind cover immediately upon being shot. You'll know - without having to look - that there's a rock to your left, and you can move toward it without having to waste time looking for it first.

I'll teach you the ways of the Metrown someday. You'll thank me later.

As regards charging, it's entirely situational. If you have a Battle Rifle, charging in against an Assault Rifle-wielding enemy probably won't work out well. If you have a shotgun, however, charging in an enclosed space is the best way to get a kill.

Where you the one working on Waterworks? I forget who was recreating that but I really enjoyed that map for BTB.

i would never be so shallow, the 8 refers to 8 walls in the octagon-shaped court

it is also an inside joke pointed directly at myself because i have stated elsewhere that, although i use an informal form of posting in forums, i absolutely refuse to use leetspeek and common chat abbreviations - i have never used a "7" where a "t" would go, and have never typed the letters "l" "o" & "l" except in the word lollypop

and. My hat's off to Shishka and the Bungie MM crew. The Grifball playlist is perfect! Thank You.

i've got to go, i will be right back :D

To be clear, I didn't write that crappy joke. Not that my jokes aren't crappy. Just that I cribbed this particular one from Chad's playlist page. Don't judge me.

Something weird just happen to me in a social BTB game on Valhalla. The game starts, the team spawns, and I manage to get near bubble shield spawn. Then the screen goes black, the game starts again, and there are two teammates of mine on the other side of the map. One gets killed, the other survives. A couple of seconds later, my whole team spawns on the other side of the map. Same as red team.

Anyway - has anybody played on Entrenched yet? I've been playing nothing but social BTB since the update (about 25+ games) and I haven't encountered the map once.

Why isn't Grifball it's own (un)ranked playlist by now? It's more, it's filled with more content than half the permanent playlists out there.

And this is the part of my post where I answer my own question, revealing the fact that it was rhetorical and my agenda was to bitch about MM:
Because Shiska can't think of any better playlists.

Mine too: "This video is not available in your country due to copyright restrictions."

Played Entrenched in BTB. Nice job, Ghaleon. Liked how it differs from most of the Sandbox main level maps. Unfortunately, three of our team quit in the beginning of the Neutral Bomb match and we lost 3-1, while I managed to score the first point.

It came up on my first game tonight, but got vetoed. :(

Well, you probably know that whenever the game usually goes to black screen, the spawns reverse, and weapons respawn. Though, you might not known of that if I'm reading that post correctly or incorrectly. Are you saying the other team spawned on what used to be your side, or on their side with your teammates?

Btw, I'd just like to thank whoever made Chicken Itcher or whatever the fuck it's called on Mayan Grifball. Thanks for adding geometry behind the spawn points so that it's MUCH easier to spawn camp than any other Grifball arena. :D
+89!!!, you're welcome! :D i hope you did it with a 7-Wood, Jack Nicholson style

I'm not exactly sure what happened, but all I know is that I see everyone of my teammates spawn on the other side of where I spawned. Before that happened, though, two of my teammates, were put all the way on the other side of the map and one got killed.

I don't know if it's just me, or that usually happens when the game goes to black screen(the spawn switching and all). :/
