About Master Chief, is it ever revealed whether he is actually a woman? 'Cause if you notice he/she never takes of his/her helmet. EVER. That is mighty suspicious. Maybe it fell off once, but you never see him put it back on in a close-up shot.

Also, the suit. Have you ever seen a woman with really big chest wear a top that kinda covers that? That's what it looks like with Master Chief. The suit is so big it's like if it was a woman with a big chest she'd fit in the suit.

Lastly the voice. Master Chief can talk and has a manly voice. Or at least we think he does. Have you ever noticed every time you see him talk it's a close up shot of his face? How do we know it's not just some guy behind him or something talking and we just assume it's Master Chief? For all we know MC IS trying to talk, but maybe his helmet was muted or something.

If Samus can be a woman, then so can Master Chief. I think it is a woman. Did Bungie ever say what sex it was?

Btw, I never played Halo 1 so if it was revealed he was a man then I apologize.
He's referred to as John in the games...and he's confirmed to be male in the books.
And his voice is a dead giveaway.

Right, I've just stocked up on Beer and crisps for tonight and I'm trapping myself in a room with Halo.

What could go wrong?

Yeah, the books confirm him to be a guy, and were the first to call him John. Cortana calls him John at the end of Halo 3 as well.

Why do people want their protagonists to be women? It happened with the Rookie and GTA IV as well. It feels like it would be interesting, sure, but unless it was handled well it would hurt the product and feel like a gimmick.

What could go wrong is that I have beer... but no crisps... so I WILL have to murder you in envy. :D

Judging by his voice, quotes from characters, like "He never gets me anything", and the like, Master Chief is a dude.
unless the anime series, or Microsoft in the future does some stuff that makes him a chick, you never know.

..and Beaten. Oh well.

Battle Dome - meh

Skystation - promising, until I saw how much shit he put on the map

Cryptic - maybe
My thoughts -

Battle Dome is very small, so it will be a bit cramped for 4v4. My biggest concern is the spawns - with the elevation around the edges players will have a good vantage point on a fair number of the spawns on the opposing side that are within clean line of sight. I like the idea of the power weapon suspended over the chasm, but a sniper rifle seems out of place for such a compact map.

Skystation - agree with Eazy here. I like the layout a lot, but there's a HUGE number of weapons and equipment scattered around. The map is probably about the size of Midship (approximate), but there's 12 plasma grenades, two each of bubble shields, regens and power drains and a TON of dual wield guns. There's one corner with about eight things to pick up all within sight. My other big concern is with the spawns - several are perched right on an edge, so if you step back a bit after spawning, it's death. All that said, I do dig the layout on it.

Cryptic isn't as open as it looked from the overview pics. My only concern with it is also with the spawn points. The only spawns for away from the base are all scattered out in the open and are mostly visible from the center; filling in the corners so there's a safe "flag away" spawn location would probably be a good thing. But of the three of these I like the layout the most. For customs we should definitely play classic flag settings (can't cap unless flag is present), since the two bases are so close.

Not sure how many people here were interested in the Q&A session Frankie ran on our forum yesterday, but I know a lot of GAFers aren't thrilled with the old-style layout, so to make things easier, all the questions (and answers) are here.

I don't know if it's the PR talking, but that convinced me to go from "Absolute crap, panic/whine/cry" to "wait and see" on Halo Legends. Still won't care about Halo after Bungie's "done" with it after Halo: Reach, but that's just me.

:/

The concept of the military kidnapping children in order to experiment on them is one that I really enjoyed in I Love Bees, and I'm interested in seeing it explored in Legends. I wonder if there will be any more connection. Is the ILB stuff considered canonical?

Since it seemed the guy knew what he was doing in forge I couldn't imagine he'd think it'd work for 4v4. But then I saw the map description, he wrote himself that the map was suited for only 2-4 players. So either Shishka screwed up or he submitted it for the summer theme without thinking it'd be used in 4v4 matches.

I went ahead and downloaded all the MM map variants today and ran around them. In general they're pretty good but one stood out as being a possible dud. I had never played Cryptic Fate nor heard of it before now but it's going to be in Social DLC come August. The map is pretty unique but a lot of it comes off as sloppy and the extreme elevation (as well as the ability to go even higher than the map maker intended) may really hurt the map.

the map i am building right now (no,not Grifball) is at a crossroads in the design phase: i can keep it simple, or add complex structures.
I've been waiting to see your attention for detail used on something non-grifball for a while now. You certainly take your time.

So... Halo.Microsoft.org?

Might be a little bit iffy since it's Halopedia(just because it's the Halo version of Wikipedia and that stuff), but scroll down here to the "Canon(?)" part. Seems like it's part of the Halo "Expanded Universe". Though, maybe someone other than me and Halopedia can answer. :/

Vashkey: Will we learn of what happened to Cortana between Halo 2 and 3 while she was held captive by the Grave Mind? I always though it was odd she turned out just fine after sending so many transmissions during Halo 3. (Posted 7/25/09 3:29 am)

Frankie: hmmm. (Posted 7/25/09 3:34 am)

This got me laughing, but it also got me thinking. I maybe looking to much into his response, but he didn't say "no" nor did he say "yes" he just said "hmmm." "Hm" with a period at the end implies thinking, which could mean that there is something more to Cortana's rapid recovery than one would first suspect. Maybe, sometime down the line, it'll be explained why Cortana recovered so quickly, maybe there was a reason for it. It must have something to do with the time she spent with Gravemind between Halo 2 and 3.

Yeah, because every time a non-Bungie company did something that related to a Bungie-originated game, we've changed our name. We were myth.mumbojumbo.org, oni.taketwo.org, and halo.gearbox.org in the last 10 years. It's amazing.

The way he explains it, it sounds more promising :D

I was speaking more to Bungie jumping ship and no longer being involved with Halo ;)

It's that time again, folks. Customs should be starting at 5:00 pm PST (8 EST)

My (admittedly sarcastic) response still holds; Mumbo Jumbo released the final Myth, after Bungie jumped ship - we still run myth.bungie.org, Take Two owns the rights to Oni, and Bungie has abandoned the title, but we still run oni.bungie.org. Marathon is no longer developed by Bungie (it's developed by a collection of volunteers, in the form of Aleph One) - but marathon.bungie.org still lives. Halo won't be any different. It won't be the most important subsite we have any more, after Reach... but it'll still be around.

Aww, that's how you run things over there. You're making my ignorance show.

I can't for NewIP.Bungie.org :D

I hopped over to this website called Halo.Bungie.org and they had a list of all the ODST previews, some of which had screens I wanted to share:

1.jpg

I love the scale of the ODSTs to the brutes

screenshot_219264.jpg

Again, scale :D

ODST_Firefight_PostGameCarnageReport02.jpg

Much more detailed than Halo 3's campaign. What are the two different kinds of drones by the way?

Urk :lol
ODST_Firefight_PostGameCarnageReport.jpg

Seems like you can put anything in those 4 characters which would've been a problem if there was matchmaking.
Played for 42 minutes yet got severely under par? Maybe it would be easier/faster on a harder difficulty.

Yeah, I know :D

I'll just keep calling the new IP Phoenix until it gets unveiled. Kinda like monkeynuts/blam!, only it's called that just by myself.

I knew about Phoenix. But I didn't know about this, which Wu beat me to posting anyway.

Heh. I still laugh at how bad the Pimps at Sea characters looked.
and I bet any Halo/Bungie haters would still say it looks better than anything they've done...

In that last pic, their difficulty multiplier was only 1x. I imagine it's a bit like Halo 3 and you score much higher with added difficulty.

I can't make out what most of the enemy types are in the postgame report.

I'll be on for game night at 6:00 (9:00 east coast). Time to take the kids to the park.

Well Phoenix is a lot catchier than New Secret IP, so I say go for it. Unless the thread can come up with an even better name.

I'll be on in a bit.

im digging the stats pages

also for the drones my only guess would be: plasma pistol drones and needler drones

EDIT: what is the thing third from the end?
Yeah, I was thinking that. Just couldn't remember if there were needler drones in Halo 3. That and it seems like there weren't many of those types of drones in the game they played making me think they were a much more powerful enemy.

The thing you're asking about is the hunter. The head isn't the most distinguishing thing about it.

I think 8v8 games without any vehicles for slayer, flag, and assault gametypes, is nowhere near as fun without vehicles than with. In fact, I think in any games 6v6, vehicles should play at least a decent role.

That's just the impression I got from some of the GAF games that had 8v8 with no vehicles.

Damn Forge "grab" symbol is burned into my TV. So I'm going to take a break from Halo for a few hours. If I miss customs, oh well :(

I'm going for something different with this map (separation plays a key role) but it won't be ready for tonight's customs.

Probably won't be able to try to get into customs, mostly due to trying to organize some stuff around the house, and on my computers. If I do decide to get on, my Gamertag is ZayneHumphrey(think it got lost in my horrible introduction post).

Woah, I think I may be out of my league here :lol

Played one or two customs with ye tonight, but the skill difference between me and everyone else was laughably massive. I was hoping after a few games I'd regain my touch, but looks like I'm gonna have to practice alot more to get back to the level ye guys play at :P

Fun maps, though I thought the map ( don't have a clue as to its name) where we where inside a pyramid type object was wayyyyy to small for 8 vs 8, and I was then destroyed in the next map we played, the mlgt version of The Pit I think it was called? Infuriating, I remember all the tips and tactics for each map, but every time I come unto a 1 on 1 I lose out.

Will get some proper time in the game next week, am still only playing at 4 sensitivity so might push that up as I go along and get used to it . Nonetheless, was fun playing with you guys, and I think I can honestly say in over 1000 games of halo 3 played that was the first time I've had the honor of playing along a pink dinosaur :lol

I'm on for customs if a space is available.

Unfortunatley, last night my dog ate my mic. (NO BS)

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeit.

EDIT: Fuck it, we have so many people waiting to get in, we might as well start a second group.

GT: NH Apache (remember no mic, so I may just change the leader to whomever can speak good)

I believe you. My puppy has eaten/chewed up the wires on:
2 Limited Edition Halo 3 Wireless Microphones
1 Standard Wireless Microphone
2 Standard Wired Microphones

He has spent an ample time period in the laundry room for this.

Heh, sounds fun, thought I might have the same problem whenever I can play in customs with any NeoGAF folks. Though, I play with 10 sensitivity, and for a few weeks now I've switched to no rumble, just to see if it does improve your aim, which I can see a difference.

Maybe switch to Bumper Jumper(if you aren't already, though I play with Default :/)?
