[Self Induced]

I was thinking.....What if Bungie made ANOTHER Halo game? What if you got to play as the Arbiter or another Elite?

I thought of an idea, where you play as an Elite, during the late events of Halo 2 through middle portion of Halo 3. The game begins when the leave the Covenant, and ends when the Flood land on Earth. You fight your way through High Charity (at first, when it occupied by the covenant and then, when its just starting to be taken over by the flood. You then go the same Halo you went to in Halo 2 (don't know why really, just plot filler). The later levels in the game will take place on Earth, where you help the humans fend off the Covenant and the Flood.

Thoughts?

I've done this using a cheat in Halo PC. Pretty weird being three feet off of the ground in a firefight.

So, you're suggesting that I should sit outside of the shield for 20 or so seconds, just waiting for it to drop or charge in, stick him and most likely die without getting any ball time?

Rush in and stick him. You don't have to wait. And besides, the longer he stays in there, the less likely he'll have a change to get bring back your flag, bomb your base, etc.

Maybe if you gave it a chance, you'd see how fun and satisfying the playlist can be. There's nothing better than wiping out a team on Narrows, sitting top center with a sniper and then spawn killing for a multi-kill.

MLG is very, very stale. It's nothing but BRs, snipers, with a mauler and rocket launcher. They take the fun out of everything.

Maybe you are jumping to conclusions. How many games have you even played to get that 1 xp, 4 at the max?

I don't mean to be a dick but MLG is really fun and a lot of people find fun in playing a game competitvely. Its the reason there is pros that do amazing things in games and millions of people tune in to watch aspiring greatness.

Everything else put on the map (needlers, Regens, Fusion Coils) is fine by me as long as I have my BR with no radar.

I think a significant factor in us NOT seeing a game focused entirely on the Elites is their weaponry and vehicles. Humans have an immediately gratifying sandbox - the weapons are visceral and effective and the vehicles are a blast to use. While people like the Covenant weapons and vehicles from time to time, they share nowhere near the same level of enjoyment that the human ones do. At least that's my own take and the feeling I get from other people.

There would have to be some design changes for this to work really well, but yeah, the fiction and story there is definitely ripe for the taking.

Covie weapons do lack that pop. Laser beams, ray guns and pew pewing, tend to look pretty artificial. Perhaps if they should add more animations for the LEDs on the guns (eg. the Plasma Rifle temperature guage/ heat ventilation). Plus, a better indication of burning and singeing (via physical scorching, lighting and sound effects) when shots make contact would make Covie weapons much more visceral and satisfying to shoot.

Of course, if such a game were made, I highly doubt you wouldn't be able to find or use human weaponry.

To each their own. I'd rather the sniper rifle be yanked from all maps (keep it in the snipers playlist), as I think that does significant damage to the game. But probably the only one on the planet that things that.

My main problem with the weapon choices of communities like MLG is that they remove a lot of the variety in combat. BR-only battles are awesome and all, but such constraints bore me after a while. The mayhem of BRs, heavy weapons and vehicles mixing together, that's timeless for me. BRs-centric games, Sniper-centric games, Rocket-centric games, etc, they're mostly quick diversions from the norm for me.

Cheap? How is it cheap? It takes skill to use. It's not as easy as spraying your AR in the general direction of someone and taking a kill. No, you actually have to aim and time your shots.

All of those make you expose yourself to some element of danger to a more significant degree than using a sniper.

You know what IS cheap. The Laser. It is like having a Long Range 1 shot kill weapon combined with the ultimate anti vehicle weapon.

Team Fortress 2's Sniper Rifle is something that comes to mind that has a lot more user risk. It's one shot before you're knocked out of scope, and you have to stay scoped in to receive the maximum damage from a shot (making no-scopes less effective and making a Sniper vulnerable while he's charging). Moving our from cover and quickly scoping in and getting a headshot will kill most classes, but you also have less situational awareness (You don't know who's moved into the firing lane in the past few seconds).

While I agree with you that yes, there are certainly tons and tons of assholes that play MLG and will be dicks to you for no reason, that seems like a silly reason to stay completely out of a playlist. I mean, there's always the mute button -- learn to use it, it's a very effective tool. And for every game that you play with one of these said douchebags, you'll undoubtedly play 5 more with solid players who are, for the most part, amiable and considerate.
