I love it when Rat's Nest Slayer comes up. I specialize in destroying Warthogs. One of my most memorable games was when all but one person on my team was booted/quit. Myself and this other guy went on to win by a few kills, by sticking to the shadows and toasting 'Hogs as they drove by.
It's still the most satisfying thing is the world when you manage to hammer a hog off the cliff. No matter how often I do it, it still feels incredible when you dupe someone into it.

I'm skimming the thread now, and its actually worse than that. It's due to his views on what constitutes a "fan" of Star Trek.

Actually, he has a post over there that sums it up quite nicely and has to be seen to be believed.

I kind of feel bad for him. I don't remember if I was so deeply misguided and stubborn when I was 17, but I like to think I wasn't. The grown ups kept picking on him.

A few days older, anyway. Sadly, I doubt it would give him enough time to realize that what constitutes a fan or not is an insignificant issue and he shouldn't be giving it this much thought.

The guy just gets wound up about things, I guess.
 
Wow...Sniper brawl on Sandbox, then Brawl Laser Tag on Ghost Town just showed up consecutively in the Mythic Brawl Playlist. This game makes me want to pull my teeth out sometimes.
 
Yeah that gif seems correct.

Finally since christmas I will have my 360 gold enabled and back on live by saturnday night, I really should jump back into halo 3 and practice my game, it's been too long and I miss it now.

I have to ask, how are the map packs? I have some points and nothing on live arcade seems worth it to me right now, or I already own it. Is the newest halo 3 map pack as good as I hear people say?
 
The map packs are fairly good, but there are the usual negatives. No use of decent custom Foundry variants used in MM, Orbital is bad, and others with no updates since arrival.

The Mythic Map pack won't be required until June, I think.

I like Orbital, but the spawning is terrible.

I've been thinking about all the different ways the latest wave of shooters have been dealing with lag the last little while. I was wondering if there is an answer to a few questions I have about Halo. Does anyone know what the defined bar to ping 'conversion' is in Halo? For example, if I had 4 bars, I have more than 50ms lag or whatever. As well, the filter for good connection in the matchmaking options, does that limit you to a local region? Or perhaps simply removes all games above a certain ping? Any help would be much appreciated. I've had a hell of a time figuring out how console shooters deal with this. You know Gears 2 matchmaking won't even find me a match it's so bad.

They haven't made any of that information public to my knowledge. It would be nice if they did though.

All I know is H2 was less forgiving like a yellow bar game in H2 would be a green bar with one dot missing all around game in H3. I noticed when playing a bunch of games earlier this week.

Thanks, although everyone understand I'm not trying to slight Halo. I've just been bouncing between a number of games looking at how each developer treats the issue of lag.

All those gifs are old and have already been posted before, it's nice to see less regular/newer users enjoying my old gifs though. The last gif I made was in January.


OT (Life without Halo): I've been trying to go to the gym more regularly and warm back up to my old workouts. I had been feeling pretty good this week and today decided to just jump back in to my old workout. Was tough but alright and got most of it done, until I got a headache, then I felt like throwing up. I went to the bathroom and just about puked, coughed up some nasty shit. (Sidenote: I haven't puked since I was 6 years old.) Walked back home, took a cold shower, and napped.

All that Halo's made me weak.

I got mine by doing Social Team DLC (never tried) on a 7th a while ago IIRC.

Oops. it's a combination of brains/slayer/fiesta/odd ball/hill/ and swords, always on Assembly.

It was one of the few playlists that I had less than 7 experience points on. So I just toughed it out.

So, I've decided to do another update to Entrenched. One thing I'm considering doing is adding a sniper rifle to each team. The reason is, last weekend it became clear that someone camped on a hill with the laser had too much control over the map, and BR's didn't provide enough distance to take him out. I was going to do a low ammo count with a long respawn, so they are not too dominating on such an open map. Make some other tweaks as well. But I wanted to ask those who played on it: do you think that's a good idea? Does the map need them?

Also, I'm considering submitting the map for squad battle instead of BTB. If the new version tests well on Saturday, I'll use that version. If not, then I'll use the other films (I have three 6v6) and do a Squad Battle submission.
 
I'm fully convinced that Halo3 no longer qualifies as a first person shooter with so many vehicles in the game. If the increase in vehicles trend continues, I'm predicting the next installment will be called "Halo4: Master Chief Goes to Driver's Ed," or, "Halo4:VE," which stands for Vehicles Evolved. This year's announcement at E3 by Microsoft is going to be that Bungie has teamed up with Nintendo to make a new star fox game where the master chief steals his ride and turns it into the Spartan Wing (no guns. no ground combat. only space vehicles). Five years from now Bungie will be credited with having the greatest vehicle simulator game around. Along with this news will be a dramatic increase in video gamer suicides.

Sound impossible?

What would stop those Snipers from going to the top of the map, especially with the room for coverage and area to walk through? I don't like Lasers on any map, and its no offense to you or any GAF maps that include them. I despise it on small-ish maps, and it should primarily be on maps like Avalanche, Valhalla, and Sandtrap. It's bad enough on Standoff. Anyways, I think putting the Laser on a very long respawn (180 secs) or maybe snap it to "Never" would be a wiser decision than to include Sniper Rifles. That's just my view, so some others may feel differently. I did play on that map with you guys that one evening, and suffice to say I was on the losing end. :lol

Submit it for Squad Battle and hope it gets honors for Team Slayer BRs, Multi-CTF, Multi-Bomb, and Neutral Bomb.

i've only played tundra and punishment in matchmaking but here are my thoughts:

i actually like punishment. i had fun when we played it in customs and i also played neutral bomb on it and it worked pretty well.

tundra on the other hand not so good. doesn't work well for swat and when i played team doubles on it i completely destroyed the other team with the sniper rilfe

Like Striker said, that would just create a sniper problem. I have to ask though, why do you feel the laser is even necessary. There are so many anti-vehicle stuff as it is (too many IMO) that the map could only benefit from tossing that weapon out. I'd be impressed if anyone in those games were ever able to get anything good started in a vehicle. In my experience I could probably get a kill or two before I was hit with:
2 rockets
2 missile pods
2 turrets
2 power drainers
2 brute shots?
a plethora of plasma grenades

What I'm saying is that you should not be worried that vehicles would become overpowered as they are practically death traps as it is. Unless your films show otherwise, anything to take a little threat away from vehicles would be a welcomed change in my book. The laser is the most bull shit anti-vehicle weapon anyways.

Heh. The major criticism from version 1.2 was the lack of laser - so it was put in there in 1.3. :lol

One thought is to swap the laser with a rocket launcher, remove the two rockets from the alleys and put the brute shots down in the alley where they were. That would push the power weapons more evenly through the map and also reduce them by two (one rocket and the laser). I'm thinking with the long sight lines, the missile pod may be over powered. I'll figure something out there.

I'll post some pics/descriptions of what I did later tonight. I really do appreciate the constructive criticism. I want the map to be fun, not just crazy or frustrating, even if it's just for GAF nights. Each iteration has gotten better from the input.

Yea honestly Halo 3 hides ping a lot better than H2 and some of the other games I've played and in no way care to damn Halo in any way for it, ping is a ever changing # based on how far you are to other players the number of hops and the hardware involved, traffic, and in no way is determined by WHICH game you are playing.

Of course who knows if hiding the ping is even good...I sort of want to see the exact ping I have like in computer games...why most console games give me some colored fucking bar is beyond me. I don't give a fuck what color I am I care how far behind my connection is to the host.

btw i use lag to mean a LOT of ping, so much that it effects the game outrageously. so in my mind lag isn't always present but ping is always present, even on LAN.
 
so i just played cubed. it might not be such a bad map if the overshield didn't spawn every 30 sec.

Could someone please point me in the direction of a guide to embedding objects in the sand of Sandbox's dunes? I saw it done on Utah Mambo and Eazy's Bruhaha, but I can't find a guide to do so over on Forgehub. My modifications have left me with $40 to burn, and I'd like to expand the playing field a bit.

Don't worry about that Ghal it's one of the funnest custom maps, I've ever played.
Beside yours, Sanctum, and Platform are definitely favorites, had some reallly fun games on those maps!
