I think everyone will be fine for BR/AR slayer, but we prefer not to play objective with BR starts.

Unfortunately the Majority of folks online prefer that. : [

I guess people want to be able to camp on spawning enemies with the with the power weapons.

Ok. I'm looking at nine maps that I already have varying work put towards. Not saying that all of them will get in, but I will try my very best to make them work.

Final Stand (High Ground)
Lost Paradise (Last Resort)
Pestilence (Isolation)
Zero Fortuity (The Pit)
Trap Hazard (Guardian)
Iron Bane (Construct)
Desolate Ruins (Ghost Town)
Icey Peril (Snowbound)
Corroding Valley (Valhalla)

So since I'm not going to create an infection map for Foundry or Sandbox for obvious reasons that leaves the rest of the maps for creation.

Anyone here that wants to help with creating descriptions for each of these will be more than welcome!

My "dream" would be to see these maps and gametype in the Living Dead playlist even though I know that's a long-shot.
Maybe if I had a certain Urk to help me out. Am I right, am I right?

So. Um.

All this talk about tweaking maps had me thinking about Entrenched. I've had this feeling since our first play tests that some areas didn't flow quite right, and that players were respawing in too advantageous a position with respect to objective games. I've made many tweaks to the map, all for the better, over the course of each weekend. But even after the last game, which went well, I didn' think it felt quite right. So I went back, watched the film, and just did a few more tweaks. But they added up. All in all:

  • Eight spawns on each base moved slightly
  • Two spawns deleted from near the flag/bomb area of each base
  • Four spawns added to each base, below the entrance to the bridge
It's not dramatic. But I think it will result in a bit of a more even spread of chaos through the map, and make captures/plants more fair as defenders won't respawn as close to the objectives.

And while I was at it, I noticed there tended to be large pile ups of infantry on the outside corners. It looks to me like the space between the block in the center of the wall and the outer edge was too far, and providing another way up and over it (and a touch of cover to boot) would help it flow better. So, I added a block below the missile pod/turret of each corner:

Tweak.jpg

So small tweaks all around. But I think they'll add up; I've upped the version to 1.3 (though it's not in my file share yet). Certainly enough that I'll need a new you-know-what to replace the one from last weekend. But I've scrutinized the map a great deal, and I think this should finally do it. I hope so any ways, since that was the last of the budget.

I've talked with the FyreWulf from PAF and rather than summarizing what he's said, I'll just copy his messages, I hope he doesn't mind:

I know many of you just want to flex your BR muscle and prove that GAF has more 4-shotting talent but I think it'd be better if you got that out of your system the first game. Rotate some GAFers that aren't so l33t in and try to even the matches up a bit. Regardless of how you feel about how Fyrewolf grabbing stuff outta this thread, there seems to be some cool dudes over there. Who knows, maybe you guys will form an everlasting friendship and play team doubles until the sun rises. Since their dick admins locked their thread maybe GAF could home these Halo refugees. You guys could also invite them into whatever customs shenanigans are going on.

And it pains me to inform you guys of this after my talk of peace but:

You already know what happens when we have customs. Whatever team dax is on loses by default so it doesn't even matter. Nnaawww meeaann?

*edit*

What is this A team B team bullshit? Shit is just confusing, too many goddam letters a,b,c whats next? W/E shit sounds like a cop-out to me. Oh and we play with BR objective or not.

Oops, just saw your invite Kev.

I'll play for the GAF B team if you want. Although, non-BR starts would be incredibly terrible. I guess we could just have a running rotation of GAF guys from our customs game to their party to play them with. And then afterwards they can just join us and we can have some epic 8v8 action.

Don't go soft on us Eazy

what?? DaxO1...as in capital "O" and the number 1...is me

and I know the real dax is pretty good, he's beaten me in an ffa

Damn you Dax!

He forgot to preface that statement and say that ARs were indeed involved.

I assumed as much. But still....

On a different note, I'm currently uploading my latest creation to Youtube. I'll link it once its done, for anyone interested.

Also, that FFA was on Guardian and Dax kept grabbing fresh sniper and jumping off the map with it lol.

how many of you people are still in high school? your treatment of dax would be completely abhorrent in any other environment. he may be 17 but he doesn't carry himself like a snobby 12th grade asshole.

Dax is a pretty cool guy (apart from his penchant for being on Pink team when we are trying to make 2 even teams of Red and Blue....). He likes to shoot with the AR and doesn't afraid of anything!

OK, so after three failed attempts it's up. Here! Short but sweet :D
The intro is a little long and the bloody CHAOS text is vastly unnecessary. I do really like the coloured round coming out of the sniper at the start, though.

There's a little too many shots of you playing against utter idiots :P I'm especially thinking of the easy assassination in that Oddball game and the one on Rats Nest when everyone just ran into your shotgun. It's obvious you're good, but those ones cheapen it a little.

EDIT: Also the one on Sandbox when everyone just stands still :lol

Yeah the montage could use some work.

I think you need to find a musical beat and have your kills follow that. It'll take time to do but it'll make your montage even better.

Fast forward through all the boring stuff, we don't need to see every step.

Show more angles. You do this a couple of times but you should do it more. There's nothing more boring than just watching a first person view the entire time.

Needs a better song.

I liked the colored round at the beginning as well, nice touch.

hehe, yeah, theres some pretty cheap kills in there. I do it more for the fun of the whole process. Putting all the vids together, playing around with effects like the sniper round. Not so much because I'm superawesome at Halo 3 (which im clearly not :lol ) but thanks for the feedback :D

The song is always a problem for me when doing this kind of thing. I just liked the intro (even if it was 20 seconds too long).

not only because I'm in it but because it's actually awesome.

Haha, thanks dude. If I had the patience Id have waited another month ir two to get some better clips and maybe sync'd it some more with the music. Im just impatient.
I guess it shows

Really? I don't like it too much when montages go out of first person often. There were a couple of time Bladed did it and I thought they were tasteful. I really prefer to see first person perspective because it makes it easier to appreciate the difficulty of the "play"

I guess what I meant by that are the sniper kills, mostly. For instance after he fires the shot he should cut to another perspective of the dude being killed, with maybe Bladed in the background or something like that.

Br first person shots are fine.

I think the shotgun segment could have used an outside camera kind of sped up to just see him kill all those guys so quickly.

I agree. I kind of find it hard to appreciate the level of play when the camera keeps zooming around the maps out of first person perspective.

Mother fucking POS microsoft eat my cock.

Today I recieved another email saying I need to call microsoft to confirm details before they can ship my 360. Good fucking lord, I wonder if they're just trying to stall so that my 360 falls out of warranty (coming up in a few weeks). I swear to God if they try to make me pay for another 360 I'll make a video of me throwing my broken 360 against the ground as a farewell to Halo. Just cross my finger that Bungie goes multiplatform next gen so I can not bother buying another piece of shit console from microsoft.

christ almighty. I'm lucky if I manage to get a triple kill in one day of playing. I was so filled with pride when I managed to kill three enemies that ambushed me in SWAT. If a fourth was there, maybe I could've managed to get the extermination medal. :(

To anyone who is unlucky enough to be on my team in matchmaking, DESPAIR!! as you will probably lose that match.

I think I'll take another extended break from Halo, until ODST comes out.

I refuse to buy anything Nintendo these days and I don't have the money for a PS3, plus I've never had any problems with MS.

That's the beauty of multiplatform games, they can come to the PS3 as well as the 360. And if a decent developer does both version, they can be just as technically sound (CoD4).

Good luck with your 360 not ever breaking though.

The problem with multiplatform is that the games are not cross platform. So if someone switches over to the PS side, then nobody on the XBOX side can play with you...

Unless it's the PC version and xbox version thats cross platform and the only one you can blame at that point is yourself and your pc. :lol

Entrenched 1.3

I realize these updates haven't been for everyone, but I want to make sure the GAF customs group knows about them for our games tomorrow.

In addition to the changes I mentioned on the last page, I've done the following:

  • Added four more spawns to each base
  • Replaced the plasma grenades on the outer wall with a regen
  • Replaced spike grenades with plasma grenades
  • Added a block below the other two openings in the alley
The goals were to rebalance infantry vs vehicle combat a bit, and provide more routes for infantry to get into the base, as well as making respawns more fair to attackers.

Regen is here, opposite the bubble shield on the other wall:

13-outerwall.jpg

They replace a pair of plasma grenades. There were some comments that there's too much firepower concentrated down there, and at the same time infantry is often very exposed on such an open map. Reducing the plasma grenades to just two in each base and then the sets in the alley will help vehicles a bit, I think. And the regen will make flag grabs/bomb plants a touch easier, as well as occasionally saving players caught out in the open. Should make the shootouts across the alley a bit more interesting as well.

Here's the final alley:

13-alley.jpg

Tweaked one obelisk to it wasn't tipping over a touch (darn uneven sand), and added a block below the other two openings in the wall. This will slightly reduce the importance of the bridge, but I think it will help over all by adding ways into the base and make each side a little less, well, entrenched.

As for the spike grenades, I read a few people agreeing (about a different map) that having three grenade types on a map to toggle through is a no-no. So while I personally like the variety, I swapped them so there's only plasmas and frags in play.

Final overview:

13overview.jpg

When my launch console broke I called up, they confirmed my shipping info and sent me a coffin in 2 days. I got my same console back with the new heatsinks installed within 2 weeks. I love Microsoft.

Good montage. That AR overkill was amazing.

Because it significantly harder to get an overkill with the AR than it is with the BR, it takes more skill to use the AR. Therefore, getting an overkill with the AR is more pro than getting an overkill with the BR. Thus, AR is more pro than BR.

Sound logic is sound.
