I believe vhfive ended up not saving any of those games because he wanted to tweak his map a little bit more. How is that going by the way?
All I know is that he's getting increasingly OCD about forging. He's started maps, worked on them for 10+ hours, and then discarded the whole thing because he wasn't satisfied. I think Sanctum is fine, but he only sees the flaws.

Also, he's working on a new map, which I've christened Sanctus Lite, aka Little Sanctum, aka Download for Recon. Sorry for blowing up your spot, 5.

The man is making works of art! Let him be! :P

I read some of the posts from the previous page that discuss the not-so-great MM experience and I agree with just about every point made. Of course, Halo 2's MM sometimes felt sparse even though it was more diverse than Halo 3's (Slayer Pro, I miss you.). Its years later and they treat MM more or less the same. I don't expect them to ever really improve it except for tiny changes here and there.

They're always going to cater mostly to the average player who could care less about a K/D Ratio. Bungie does cater to the hardcore sometimes but its rare.

I agree but if you read my suggestions MANY of them cater to EVERYONE. Like party splitting, exp boosting, these don't even apply to the lower ranked players but yet they would benefit from a better MM experience too (being matched against less alts).

Although they did take notice and decide to finally ban habitual quitters with neg exp. That was my newly added #19 earlier today.

Very excited to see a release date for Mythic. Hopefully we'll have a playlist reveal next week along with another sandbox variant.

Holy shit...

I'm confused now though, wasn't Dax's story that he stayed in the car while his dad giggled the doorknob? So doesn't that make the person in that photo Dax's father?

Something fish is going on...

Eazy, I'm getting the feeling that you don't like me.

4/9? Should be a fun weekend. Can't wait to play the maps in full MM.

Edit: LOL I just became a fan of Bungie on FB. :D

Aww, Dax. Don't take it that way. I've just realized that you told us a fib and now want to know the true story. That's not to say I like you though, cause I don't. But I'm glad you exist, the things you do and say bring many a smile to my face and for that I haven't even put you on ignore.

So no hard feelings.

i did save those games
will upload
i plan to use them to see where people spawn and try to fix some spawn issues with the map
wtf at the beginning of that one slayer game.

EDIT looks like i only saved one film i thought i saved them all :/
and its at the 11 min mark a little longer than what the update was calling for

On reply to Eazy's post of Ghost Town's flag-time spawn for 1-CTF. Remember the 1-CTF Fast variant in Halo 2? There were two different types of 1-CTF types, and one in type the flag has a timer much shorter than the other. Reasoning being the map type. If a map like Burial Mounds, Relic, Terminal, etc. is 1-CTF, the timer will be longer. If a map like Ivory Tower, Lockout, etc. is 1-CTF, it's 1-CTF Fast. The same went for Bomb games. There aren't many smaller maps supporting many objective variant gametypes in Halo 3 (Blackout doesn't have 1-CTF, I believe, except for Team Doubles; the other 1-CTF maps are larger than those used for 1-CTF Fast in Halo 2), so I can see that stance. However, a change should be made for the likes of Valhalla/Sandtrap to the likes of The Pit, Standoff, High Ground, etc. The smaller/medium sized maps need shorter times to return the flag.

yup it almost makes you think they have a limit to the # of gametypes in play at one moment.

We really need to see what kind of permits we need for Jerome to be able to shoot on sight. I should ask for the security tapes and put Dax checking the door in the weekly update.

"Gaze, sweet Internet, as this homely pre-teen attempts to infiltrate Bungie."
<awkward youth enters frame, presses face to glass, moving his sweet white hat to the side to peer in>
"Now, he will see if the door works."
<a small hand gingerly tugs at the door, fails>
"Yeah, we keep it locked, imagine that!"

That was also around the time the ODST reveal got shit on as well as the PAX: Bungie fan event.

i decided to write a guide of sorts about making a map. if you are on my friends list you know that i spend a lot of time in forge and i have attempted making many maps. i decided to give what i have found the best way to creating the map that you have formed in your head.
1. check out the forge pieces.
if you haven't done so already, go into forge and go down the scenery list checking out every single forge piece there is. you may have a great idea only to realize that there aren't really any small pieces in forge.
2. get graph paper and sketch it out first.
this will help solidify your idea into something forgeable. if you just go straight into forge and start building you may get halfway doe before you realize that your idea can't work or that it would not play well. drawing it out helps you visualize your map and see potential problems. i should also note that when you are sketching it out think about what pieces you are going to use and if it is actually possible with the objects given.
3. rough your map out.
when you do this don't worry about perfect placement, just approximately where you are going to place something. build shitty versions of your bases to make sure they work and will play the way you want them to. also during this stage watch your budget and try to judge how much your map will cost. if you think it will be close then actually calculate how much your map will cost. this may sound like a lot of work but it helps immensely down the line. plus calculating how much your map will cost is easier then you think, most stuff is $5.
4. build your map.
easier said then done. take your time, no need to rush things try to make your merges as smooth as possible (goddamn you weather worn bricks why cant you all just be smooth and precise ). i wont go into great detail here go to forgehub for tips and trick on merging and the what not (its really easier than you think).
5. spawns.
i am struggling with this and dont have good advice. forgehub as some spawn guides and shishka is creating a guide to spawns at some point. the biggest thing is play test it in some customs.

ill end this post with an observation of the gaf maps already made. the biggest problem with a lot of maps is that they are overly complicated. try to keep your map relatively simple. dont over do bases, think of bases in halo already (assembly, valhalla, sanctuary) they are all pretty simple and do a fantastic job. think about your favorite halo maps and why they are your favorite. how do they make the game flow and where is the weapon placement.

anyways i hope you find this helpful. i know there is probably a lot of grammatical errors but i dont really give a fuck

Good tips all around, vhive. I've found the most valuable are drawing out a layout on paper, and then roughing out the map in very approximate form in Forge. Using the sky bubble to toss together VERY rough parts of the map - structures such as a base or tower - helps not only get a feel for size and sight lines but also how much budget parts of the map will chew up.

Just read all the posts back when the event happened. You definitely said you were going to go up to the door, but instead you said your dad did before you could which implies that you didn't. Nice try

After 1-year break I decided to play through Halo 3 campaign again. I don't know what updates have been made to the game so I have two questions:
  1. Is there finally a way to turn off Cortana interrupting gameplay with her awful messages?
  2. I'm playing on LCD monitor via VGA and the game looks horrible. The problem is that instead of upscaling to 720p with black bars it uses 5:4 or 4:3 format upscaled to monitor's native resolution (1280x1024). In effect, 640 lines are upscaled to 1024 lines. Any way to get widescreen version with bars?

No to the first one, but for the second one, you can go in and set your 360's video settings to 16:10 if you want, as long as you have the newest version of the dash. If you don't, you can burn a CD from xbox.com or connect to Live to get it.

Avenged update. In the process of mirroring the red side. After that spawns, weapons, etc will need to be placed and then it will be ready for some play testing. I'll work on the rough spots while updating the map with the play test results. Tons of pics below. Let me know what you think.

With that setting the image would have incorrect aspect ratio. Looks like there's no way around it. Thanks anyway.
