What makes you say that? The ladder or the "blowupable gate"?

I have no idea if that image is one supplied by Bungie or something 1UP threw together but the layout and scale in that image is more appealing than what the actual map turned out to be. Looks like a fun Halo 2-esque BTB map in that pic as opposed to the trash AR radarfest that is High Ground.

Looks pretty much the same to me except four turrets (two on each side) instead of one in the middle.

Yeah aside from the lack of sniper, camo and grav lift cave, rocket barrier, bubble hideout and the addition of an enormous structure in the back it looks pretty much the same.

That pic doesn't show any weapon or equipment placement so for all you know there is a sniper by where sniper ally would be and a grave lift leading up to that first structure. The enormous structure in the back doesn't seem much different from the structure the flag currently spawns in other that it has a crows nest like where laser spawns. So the only difference being the lack of sniper ally I am not seeing any huge differences in the way the map would play.

Edit: I guess there isn't camo cave....shrug. It also looks like according to the drawing the *Big Ass mortar* would shoot into the mortar area near the bottom of the drawing.......cause that would be awesome lol

I think what really gets you hot and bothered in that pic is the thought of being killed by random mortar fire.

Seriously, who knows how complete that concept shot was supposed to be but it looks boring.

Very early, ~25% geometry done. Getting the center platform a) built b) level and c) perfectly center took well over an hour. It's centered enough that you can drop down the chute leading from the basin to the crypt and drop through the center without touching the sides.

Why did her dorm have to smell like a horse?? I guess halo is the only girl for me :((((
Pro tip: If it looks like a horse it probably smells like a horse. Close your eyes all you can, but there are some things you can't simply use you imagination.

Oh boy, all these people making a Pirate themed map. Now I'll look like the sheep. Anyway Bounty picture up tonight. I've gone for awe factor over actually playing it. It's playable but, well you'll see.

I wonder how that High Grounds BETA would have played. I guess we will find out, sorta.

Now that's more like it. Love seeing work in progress stuff. What's the concept you're building on here? Gonna use both middle and bottom, I take it?

The core idea is to take advantage of the vertical space in the crypt. Think of a large square block as one "click" of vertical space. The top level of the base is three clicks up off the ground (there will be a lower level two clicks up), with the bases on facing sides of the crypt. The top center platform is the highest point, six clicks high. Below that will be two square platforms, open center, rotated 45 degrees from each other. Bases and two platforms interconnect in numerous ways, including a series of ramps and paths along the sides. In the center is a volcano.

That probably didn't make sense. Only one level of each base, the start of the side ramps and the top platform are done. Gimme another day or two. :p

Looks interesting Ghaleon. You sparked an interesting idea I have for a map. Which then reminded me that I have to finish Beaver Creek. Which reminded me of how sick of forge I am.

But I must see my ideas take shape!

Here is a sneak peak at Bounty, inspired by that Dutchman map. It is unfinished, with the "island" still being built and parts of the ship being layered. You get the general idea though from the above pictures.

The Brig. The prisoners (attackers) escaped from their cells and must push up to the deck to seize control of the boat. The Brig also has access to the Treasure Room and the Weapons Locker. Behind the camera is the staircase to the Deck.

Here is said staircase. Ramp to the right gives access to top rear deck and door to the left to the Captain's Quarters. The Captain's room supports two little suprises and a secret entrance.
topdecktobottom.jpg

The Deck. Ramps lead to front of ship, doorway into Crew's Cabin. To the right is the walkway that will hopefully lead to the island where the "Bounty" can be found, buried behind a shack.

The pride and joy of the Spartan navy. After a recent battle the ship is out of commission (until probably this Friday)

The level is quite brighter but the filter sure does make things hard to see.

Pretty sure he meant "can" and not "can't".
If that is the case, then I would say:
HaloGAF isn't a good represenation of GAF as a whole.

Looks promising, Ghal.

I need some input: what do you guys think of a Backwash remake? Sure it won't have the atmosphere, the geometry can be done.

I know this has already been said a million times, but you guys are doing a helluva job with Sandbox. Some of you folks have had these maps for a few weeks now and you're still aggressively and actively forging very impressive stuff -- a testament to the map's versatility.

Haha. I'm finding that every map you pick is like the exact opposite of the ones I enjoyed from Halo 2. That said, it'd be interesting if you could pull it off and tough because of the terrain.

Have you tried Geminie? It's not a remake, rather a spiritual successor. I need some people to test a 2v2, 3v3, or a 4v4 game with it.

Ha. I'm just trying to pick some maps people aren't already doing, and maybe improve upon some maps that were generally disliked. I think I have done that with Geminie. What part of backwash didn't you like? What ways do you think it could be improved?

If no one has attempted a recreation of Terminal, I won't mind giving it a try. Of course it will won't include the runaway train of doom. =p

I registered for the Ripten giveaway well before the deadline and they never sent me my password. :(

EDIT: Argh yes they did, three minutes after I went to bed. Looks like I might still have time to enter. :P

Thought this was interesting, got this from Shawn Elliott:

All those people charging and meleeing are just having the most fun they can. It's a much more satisfying kill because it's punctuation at the end of a fight and there's more adrenaline in it. Similar reasoning for why people love the sword - it's a one-hit kill for doing it right. They're not bothered about the overall outcome, they're just in the moment.

It might seem obvious but it's nice to have the data to back it up.

Why would you remake Blackout, we already have it, and I thought no one liked it.

i actually like blackout. its no lockout but its still good

I love it, that and Cold Storage make Team Doubles a tasty prospect any night of the week. Bring on Assembly in Team Doubles matchmaking.

seriously though, blackout is probably going to be a better map as it is then a forge remake of lockout. if your just doing it to do it, have fun i guess.

what are your guys thoughts on some sort of relic remake? seems to me it would be a very doable map and i always had fun with it in halo 2.

Fun map but I'd say don't bother. The map is too hilly and large.

i'm giving it a go. i dont think the hills are a big deal (i'm not recreating them), its the cover and line of sight issues they provide for gameplay, and that should be easy enough to recreate in other ways.

as far as size goes, it will have to be considerably more compact. i think i can scale down the size of the base a bit to help, but it will certainly be a smaller version.

i'm pretty confident it will work out and be a great map to play on. i'll keep you guys updated.

Somebody tried to recreate Relic and it looks like on the comments that it needs some touching up.

And this Utam Mambo map looks to be a great map. I want to try this out for sure with an 8v8 setup. The way he merged the base into the sand is just awesome I think:

re' relic, specifically the rocket launcher beach...

the rocket launcher beach provides a unique challenge, in which the original elevation change provided key gameplay to the map.

rather then build the entire map elevated, i'm thinking about placing a barrier/wall running alongside the structure towards the other end of the island (the downed pelican). the base side of this barrier will have scaffolding or ramps to be able to either jump down for rockets themselves or to cover players on the other side. this would be to maintain that aspect of relic in which players going after the rockets will still have to rush down alongside the beach, meanwhile they are exposed from the upper portion.

any other thoughts or suggestions?

EDIT: can you post a link to utah?

whats the best way to browse and find some of these maps? utah, the relic remake, bumper hogs, etc

I don't see how you'd be able to remake Relic, it's just too big. Leave it be and remember the fun times.

While the remakes are all looking good, the new maps people are creating look fantastic. So much potential, it makes me want to play Halo 3 again. =(
