I'm pretty sure someone is already making Prisoner from MLG forums

It just wont feel right without fall damage. Honestly, the only maps you could remake in h1 anywhere close to the same feeling would be... Wizard, Blood Gulch, Sidewinder, Longest, Chill-Out, Derelict, Battle Creek, Chiron, RatRace, and Boarding Action. All the ones italicized have been remade. The ones in bold are actually those really good and most of them were in halo2 so that shows how hard it would be to recreate and put together a good remake.

For Bungie to remake.

And I don't really believe the lack of fall damage makes too much of a difference.. I'll admit it'd be better, but it's not the end of the world. An amazing map is still an amazing map with or without fall damage.

The Sky Bubble is big, but it's not big enough to remake Boarding Action, Blood Gulch, Headlong or any other maps of those sizes. Actually, it's not the size, it's the object limit. You won't have enough resources to remake those maps.

In the case of Blood Gulch, you couldn't remake that because there's no terrain editor, and a flat Blood Gulch wouldn't be Blood Gulch at all.

Also, I've discovered that the Crypt is a little bit too small to remake Sanctuary in. 'Tis a shame.

Heres the plan for Friday (I'm in the UK):

  • First I head into town at 9 '0 clock and hit up my local Game store.
There I purchase Halo Wars LE for £45.
I proceed outside the store, unwrap the game, open the tin case and extract the Bungie goodness which is hopefully in the form of a code on a card.
Next I venture deeper into town where I come upon Gamestation.
Here I trade my copy of Halo Wars for £38, meaning I pay £7 for the maps which is approximately what you would pay anyway.
Finally I use my remaining cash to buy SFIV to get my Shoto on then cap it off with a Wicked Zinger meal from my local KFC!

Wait, so the middle level of sandlot is all flat? I only thought the center part was flat.

If I remember Sanctuary wasn't the big. Have you tried fusing the geometry together?

Orbital looks incredible, something out of Mass Effect in some of the screens.

Going to a small Halo Party tonight, too bad not one of us bought Halo Wars. Just not our type of genre I guess. These new mid-sized maps would be great for 4P splitscreen.

Well, the outskirts of the middle area have a slight upward slope, but not as drastic as what you'd see on Blood Gulch, plus the main areas of Blood Gulch had lots of little hills that couldn't be replicated in Forge, plus the middle area of Sandbox is too small.

Sanctuary isn't that big, but it's just a bit larger than The Crypt area. If you were to look down at The Crypt as though it were 2D figure and the bases from Sanctuary were already built on the left and right sides of the rectangle, the height would be almost big enough for Sanctuary, but the width is far too small.

It's funny, if you put the "Juicy" filter on, the walls look exactly like Mass Effect's walls. It's actually remarkable how similar it looks. I'll post a screen later.

Difference in size of the the commonly-forged area of Foundry and the Crypt. The Foundry part is with the wings of Foundry cut off, like on Onslaught.

Sandbox is the larger one.

I'd suggest cutting out the red/blue rock area or try adding your own touch to the map :p if not try making Wizard, Beaver Creak, Ivory Tower and Derelict. kthnx

I was browsing through my recent downloads and found that the Halo 3 beta was still there. I clicked on it to see if I could download it again. I could, and it started to download. Weird.

Anyone know of a good guide for placing spawns on a symmetrical map? I spent 5-6hrs working on a Sky Bubble variant that I'm pretty proud of, but I'm really worried about the placement of the spawns so I want to take my time with that aspect before moving on to weapon placements and what not.

Also, is Blue Team "Attackers" or "Defenders" (in relation to spawn points)?

It's the other way around. To do it somebody would need to decrease the size of the front courtyard or from the back of the base.

Red attacks, Blue defends.

I made a test map on Skybox called Skyperch. feels like a mix between Ascension and Lockout. gotta watch your step!
If any GAFFers with mythics wanna play it let me know!

This might help. Probably more complicated than you need.

Defenders are red, Attackers are blue, I'm pretty sure.

*edit* haha i couldn't tell what he meant by height i thought he actually meant height not length.

Sky Perch (Skybox Test map)

Side note: Why do Power drains, flares and other round equipment not fall through skybox but bubble shields do? Glitch? It's kinda dumb seeing a powerdrain floating in mid air.

Like I said, take out the rocks. The red arrows imply that you shift that part of the map up or down.

That's what I was referring to when I talked about the "width" and "length" of the map. Just taking out that rock area solves the "length" problem. The "width" problem is a bit more major, you're either going to have a tiny courtyard, or a tiny base (like one block wide.)

I was looking at your picture and I was so confused lol.

Maybe it could be built in the sky? Or you just squish the bases a little inwards, I don't know..

Thanks, but I need something more simplistic like how to use "Starting Point", which gametype to switch the round to when dealing with spawns, how to use "Spawn Area", etc. :P

@Penguin: Yeah, I was assuming Red attacks and Blue defends, as well.

yeah i edited and realized what you meant it backwards. i always looked at a rectangle as length x width.

wtf. you have your length and width backwards. weren't you the dude trying to crack a transitive property joke earlier?

I just finished watching the first two seasons of 30 Rock. They play a lot of Halo 2 in that show.

It's possibly one of the best shows on television, btw. Check it out if you get the chance.

wtf, that's your 2d perspective? holy shit i didn't know the schooling was that different in england. haha here i was taught that height is the measurement of a geometric shape in 3d space.

So uh, which part of the campaign has some ODSTs to photograph? :lol

I did it at the beginning of The Ark. I actually got a hilarious event that I captured in screenshot form in all 6 of my slots involving an ODST.

Fuck you, Cocop. It'll fit if I have to shove the damn walls together. :P

Realistically, it would probably fit if it were right in the middle, but with both the increased accuracy of the AR and, of course, the BR, it will be difficult to place, exactly, along with the increased jump height, in honestly, it'll probably have to be "low" ceiling wise.

Out of curiosity, is one grid square the same as a hatchmark in foundry, or whatever those cone placements are?

Great job!

Seriously, this game is giving me a LittleBigPlanet vibe...we're gonna see TONS of great playing maps here, there's going to be no shortage of fun.

I also realized that I made some GameType edits. One being "HaloStrike". Now I can actually make maps that play a lot like the CounterStrike maps, to go along with that mode.

And of course, Mongoose Racing tracks.

So yeah...we're seeing a lot of great maps for straight up Deathmatch...but there's also the maps made for specific modes like King of the Hill, CTF, etc. and custom ones like Racing, HaloStrike, etc.

Are you guys playing it right now? I'm open for some mythical customs.

I find it hilarious that I went into a 3v3v3 playlist with two friends, and we each got split up and put onto separate teams.

Damn. I could almost see why me and one friend got split up, but going in with a full team, but that's ridiculous. It was weird because matchmaking would take a while, then say it found 100+ games and over 10 matches, then it would put us into a game and split us up -_-. I also saw people in Team Melee with 3 guests, I thought the description says the limit is 3 for a party, does that not count guests for some reason?

It's a social playlist. If you want Bungie to treat it like a ranked playlist, say so, but be prepared for the consequences.

I drew up my map design without a good grasp of the number of different objects, or the kinds of angles they could create. And so far, I think I'll be able to do everything I want. I'm really impressed with the amount of stuff and the budget afforded on Sandbox.

here's a sneak peak at my map to be dubbed fd0.1 at the moment

actually screenshots of the map probably tomorrow or late tonight

Anyways, Assembly doesn't seem to be very good for Multi Flag, seems to be too many possible paths/too much cover.
You'd figure if there were so many possible paths for flag grabs your team would've scored more.

Flighted!
