This thread isn't moving at all. I guess its time for more pics. These, like the previous three Sandbox pics, are from a Custom Game where urk and I squared off some dudes from BSG. We had some great 2v2 matches going.

Man, I can't decide if I'm more excited for Halo Wars or the Mythic Pack. Why do they have to come out on the same day! The five hours I have after work that day will not be enough to thoroughly enjoy both!


Maybe I'll just take some PTO on Tuesday :lol



Hey, also, does anybody know if we just get a download code in Halo Wars, or can we load the maps right off the disc?

Probably comes with a download code. There probably wasn't enough room on the disc.
And I'm in the same position. I know I'll enjoy Halo Wars, but I'm vacillating between which to start up first... Damn.

Hey, Total.... Can you take all the stuff in Sandbox and construct one huge tower with them? Then take a picture. Try to make it as high as possible, going from the middle of the level, of course.

You mean using only the stuff that's pre-set on the map? And from the ground level up?

Yeah, it's not exactly Valhalla's sunshine and flowers, and the dark, misty, goopy surroundings of the map make it seem very gloomy. It's also far less shiny and glowy than Midship.

Midship = alien and strange.
Assembly = Purple and gloomy.

However, Midship = Awesome and Assembly = Awesome.

...Meaning that by the Transitive Property, Midship = Assembly!!!! :o

i wanna see some tower of power maps people. nothing like a team of elites with shotguns on ascension. xbc ftw.
 
Damn those new map look awesome cant wait to play them Only 2 week left before I finished my militairy training and I will be able to play h3 as much as I used to
 
Any word on Legendary pack being made free?

I haven't played Halo 3 since... *checks Bungie.net* October 7th, and that was only ~10 games. Before that, it had been more months.

I've had a pretty strong urge to get back into the game, but I'm caught in a weird place. I don't want to pay for Assembly, Orbital, and Sandbox, because I haven't touched the game in 4+ months. I'm not an active player.... so buying DLC seems like a waste.

But on the other hand, buying the new maps might be exactly the thing that gets me back into it. Without new maps I might not ever get involved.

So, if Legendary were free, that exploring those maps would be a big enough nudge to get me playing for at least a good week or so.
 
I just sat in sandbox forge for a bit and there are soooo many options I really don't know where to start :lol

Apparently there are no plans for the maps to be made free ever. I think they are at a discounted price now for 600 or 400 points, not sure.

Yeah, when I think about building something the options are a bit overwhelming.

I think I'll try to remake Desolation or Turf once my kids get done with Rock Band.
 
I'm tempted to take some pics of ODST guys in a desperate attempt at getting Mythic but according to a blog post on bungie.net they already have over "fifty pages" of pictures

I'm glad you guys are all having a shiton of fun on the Mythic maps... I'm gonna go have fun playing the umm, Halo Wars demo... ?

Is the HaloGAF customs night still on for tonight? It's gonna have to be a Mythic-free night, because our playerbase is fragmented between the mappers and nonmappers.
 
I have a Bungie.net Service Record question. Is there a way to delete file set-linked screenshots from the screenshot gallery? I tried deleting a few and after refreshing the page they're still there. I've been doing this since last night.
 
Nobody try to remake Gemini. Gemini is mine and nobody else's. You try and remake Gemini before me, or make a better version, I will... do something threatening.
 
Man, I've been wanting to port two of the best maps in Descent 3 over to Halo for a while now, but I guess I'll just have to wait till it hits the marketplace.

I used to play Halcyon CTF and Varicose Veins CTF all the time with my buddies back in the day, and I've always wondered if a Halo port could work.

You didn't know? It is one of my favorite Halo 2 maps; I rank it among the best the game had.

Ooh! Maybe we can do the remake together.

This map, the pictures of it are below, has been my only attempt to make a map in Foundry. With Sandbox, I'll be able to make it better because the forge area is way bigger.

Why are they putting skulls in multiplayer maps, what do they do, why start now?
 
Orbital isn't as straightforward as the other maps, so I threw this together. Hopefully it helps close some mental gaps. I know I struggled with it for a while, but it's a pretty interesting setup.

From above, you can tell that there's only a few main areas, but the confusion comes into play with the corridors overlapping and the lack of authentic symmetry. To better understand, the red level is the upper floor and the blue level is the bottom floor. The green areas represent the stairs which bridge the two floors on both sides of the map.

Here are some shots to connect the dots for those who are still questioning their bearings on the map...

Red base and blue base above, respectively. You might be able to see a few of the access points of each base. There's one door which is always open and one which is closed on objective matches, allowing players to hit a green keypad on the inside of the door to open it. The latter has an orange band around it and Mongooses facing through it.

Another shot of red base shows the upper-level of the base itself and the hidden access point just to the left of the terminal. Beyond the Mongoose, those windows look down into blue base (and vice versa), as shown here...

The main door of each base (the one that stays open) accesses sections C and D on the map. They act like an antechamber for the base, giving you access to stairs and the corridors at the center of the map (E and F). Both of these rooms are color-coded for their adjacent base, as shown below.

Going straight through this room to the stairs takes you deeper into the map, but if you wanted to circle back, you can, by heading toward the right (red) or left (blue) to get to the corridors at the center of the map. Taking this turn lets you take the secret passage or, if the door's open, the second access point of the base, as shown for red and blue base below...

Instead, if you were to head from red base, through the antechamber, down the stairs, you'd find yourself here, at sniper...

You can get there from blue base as well, but just slightly differently. Instead of heading through the antechamber to the stairs, you would head down the F corridor, toward the rocket spawn and the infamous pit of death.

The last shot shows you rocket spawn, which is not far from sniper but separated by an imperceptive distanced jump. You can make it, once you get the hang of it, but it's not easy.

Let's say you wanted to rush the rocket spawn from red base though instead. Rather than pushing through the antechamber into the stairs, you'd take the E corridor toward the window at the far end...

The shots above are in sequence, looking back toward red base as you travel down E corridor, the final one being the window looking down at Ecuador's coastline. If you kept backing up from the window, you'd run into rocks...

Blue base can get there quickly as well, but they have to move through their antechamber, up the stairs to the second floor and turn left at the end of the hallway.

That flooring is kind of clever in the room located just below the letter G on the map above -- here's a closer look:

There are some interesting junctures where players can see each other, but can't fight immediately. Like right here, near the sniper/rocket location.

Overall, the map is rather complex. It doesn't have the organic immediacy of Assembly or the simplicity and openness of default Sandbox. That said, Orbital has some potential. It remains to be seen what type of legs it'll have and whether or not it'll be versatile enough for more than a gametype or two -- which was my original concern.

Hope this helps some people. If not, it helped me. ;-)

The reason to explore multiplayer maps in Halo 2 was because you could get out of most of them. Unfortunately, Bungie decided to axe about 40% of the fun I had in Halo 2 by adding death walls and removing the sword lunge. But now I finally have a reason to do so again in Halo 3.
 
Well sense, I'm not buying HW, and urk hates me :p. Will someone plleeease remake prisoner. It's my all time favorite halo map! Ever! Also I hate everyone in this thread that got the maps

ALSO. to anyone that found all the skulls, are they hard to find, and can you find them alone or do you need 2 to 4 players???

2 are easy, one is difficult. You can do it by yourself.
